Her chest felt tight. Somehow the hallway felt crowded, even though as far as she knew she was the only one in it. Why did Mr Schue have to give her the part? Tina wanted it, but more than that, she wanted to be right for it. With each run Mr Schue put her through, it became more and more apparent that she wasn’t.
Tina wasn’t entirely sure what she was doing. School had long since finished, and aside from a few extracurriculars, the place was empty. Somewhere between her heavy breaths and blinked back tears she found her locker, which offered a little solace. At least it was something familiar.
Then, with a jolt, she realised she could hear footsteps from down the hall. With fumbling fingers, she yanked her locker open, using the door to hide her face. She closed her eyes, praying that the old ‘if I can’t see you, you can’t see me’ trick would work out for a change. On top of that, she gave a valiant attempt at holding her breath, but she soon ruined that for herself with a quiet sniffle.
Great. Because running out of a rehearsal wasn’t embarrassing enough…
It felt odd walking the hallways of the school so long after everyone else had left. Or everyone was meant to have been gone, but coach had allowed him to hang back a while to train. Considering his dedication to the team, Sam was confused why he didn’t ever get a real shot to prove himself. But he guessed that’s why coaching wasn’t his job.
Flattening out his hair which always seemed to be dry lately since treating it to seem cool, he made his way down the hall towards the exit when he noticed someone else standing by their locker. In fact it looked like they were.. hiding?
“Hey?” Sam asked, a little unsure of the proper way to greet whoever it was in the hall. “Don’t worry, I’m not some kinda crazy person murderer kicking around the halls, promise.”
In hindsight, it was probably a weird thing for someone completely innocent to be saying, but he’d spoken before he stopped to think (he did that more than he liked to admit). With a smile, he tried his best to play it off like he wasn’t a complete weirdo. “What brings you to school on this fine evening?”
