being a queer german person and seeing the news fail to verbalise that the CSD attack in berlin was motivated by homophobia feels really crazy. i don't give a fuck where this person is from, the person who did this was homophobic and wanted us dead, and that is what we should be talking about. extremism has become far too normalised in this country and beyond. for one fucking second, talk about how normalised homophobia and is, talk about what a sad day it is for queer folks, about how we deserve to feel safe and that homophobia has no place in this country. can you actually care about us for once stop using us to fuel your islamophobia or hatred of immigrants.

Things Conan has done with his skateboard (an incomplete list):
Crossed over half a bridge by balancing on a single steel beam in an effort to pursue a wanted criminal
Chased an armed criminal into and through moving traffic (bonus: almost got crushed by a car)
Chased kidnappers into moving traffic and onto a highway multiple times (bonus: fell off the highway once, had to be fetched like a frisbee)
Climbed an entire football stadium up to the roof (more steel beams were involved)
Rode upside down on the ceiling of a highway tunnel (bonus: somehow landed upright when gravity finally remembered to apply to him as well)
Crossed the collapsed passage connecting two skyscrapers
Used a parabolic antenna as a ramp in order to throw himself off a roof hard enough to almost reach a nearby river
Used a metal pipe he uprooted himself as a landing ramp after jumping off a building in order to slingshot himself into the air for a cool shot with his soccer ball
Caused an avalanche

@abendnebel hat sich grad daran erinnert, dass ich 2012 mal ein Fragezeichen Spiel selber gemacht hab, also haben wir es wieder rausgekramt (behold my paint skills, es ist keine Grafikdesignerin aus mir geworden). Es basiert auf irgendeinem Spiel-zum-Film von den beiden alten Filmen (verfluchtes Schloss?), das wir im Spielemuseum Chemnitz mal zur Probe gespielt haben. Wir fanden das Spielprinzip ganz cool, aber es waren natĆ¼rlich die Filmcharaktere, und die Filme mochten wir halt nie. Also hab ichs abgeƤndert und alle Nebecharaktere aus dem Buch/Hƶrspieluniversum als Effektkarten reingeschummelt. Manche meiner damaligen Bildentscheidungen find ich heute eindeutig fragwĆ¼rdig, mit meiner Zitatauswahl fĆ¼r die drei bin ich nach wie vor zufrieden.

Not to sound like a decrepit, rambling corpse about it, but back in my day Word used to be a pre installed program that came with your computer, if you were running Windows.
No subscription. Just program.
On your computer. You got to use it forever and ever and never had to worry about it going away.
Because it was physically on your computer. As a program. That you actually owned. Not because you got it separately, but because it was a standard inclusion with your computer.
I'm sorry but I'll just never get over it. I remember when companies cared about their products being usable out of the box. I remember when our things belonged to us.

at work they're showing us how to use AI tools like Copilot to help in our day to day tasks.
I have many reasons why I will not use those tools, going from lack of accuracy, lack of ethics, and a higher waste of energy.
But my main reason is this:
I will do things the hard way. I will learn how to do things the hard way.
Because AI is a subscription. And when the world is dependant on AI, they will raise the price of that subscription.
And when the company I work for decides that paying for AI is too expensive for their bottom line, they will remove it.
But I will still know how to work.
It's started already. Not with individual consumers so much as corporate customers. The trouble is, every AI query costs way more to run than they've been charging, and they were banking on the costs coming down in the same way as other tech costs, like storage. But they haven't -- they've only gotten more expensive -- and these companies are running at enormous losses that they can only cover with constant VC funding.
So yeah, if things had gone the way they planned, they would have waited until people were a lot more dependent on AI than they are to jack up the prices, and their costs would be low enough that they could make a huge profit. But the financials are starting to look pretty dire. It's an open question which companies will even survive long term -- so it might not be a question of "will the AI be too expensive" but "will the AI even be available."
I'm 43. If I started using AI to do all my work, and then I had to stop using it, I would still have my previous experience to fall back on. I'd probably have to relearn some stuff, and it would be annoying, but I could do it.
If you never learned how in the first place? Well, you can still learn. But it'll take you longer and it'll be even more annoying. Possibly long enough that it could damage your career for a time, as you try to catch up on ways of working that are entirely new to you. Don't do that to yourself.
