the craziest thing about tonight is that i don't even have a strong opinion about this. like i am fully aware of how explosive and complicated the situation is and like everyone else, i don't know (and unlike others, don't claim to know) what would be the best way to operate. i literally just stated why american liberals (a group i don't even belong to) are thinking about this differently then they do about internal affairs. the insane reaction from people here just shows how impossible and incredibly ridiculous internet culture has become, to the point where a mild thing you say will have people completely misinterpreting your entire approach and personality and assigning you a made up role in their identity-politics (along with matching political views that have nothing to do with you) that gives them an excuse to send you death threats and anon hate over literally nothing. complete brain rot. i wish you all a very develop mature critical thinking skills.

a lot of ‘activism’ and ‘awareness-raising’ during a crisis that captures the zeitgeist for a week feels performative bc a lot of the ppl posting about the issue when it blows up don’t walk the talk in daily life. like just based on the interactions i have with ppl and see ppl having every day online tells me none of these ‘stand with x’ ‘listen to x’ sentiments are actually sincere or grounded in a real value system. if you don’t engage critically with media on a regular basis and throw a hissy fit around ppl for bringing up daily racism, transphobia, etc., then ofc both attempts to virtue signal about a crisis and to detach yourself from it are going to reflect badly on you. like i’m sorry to break it to you but problems don’t only become real or worthy of your attention when the news cycle gives a shit again

i think it’s important to remember that not every single thing that happens in the world needs your opinion. if it’s not something that you’re educated on and/or experiencing then it’s okay to just. share reliable information by people who actually DO know what they’re talking about. it would not kill some of you to sit back and think, “does this situation, which does not impact me at all, really need my uneducated and pointless input? or should i just keep my mouth quiet, educate myself, and boost the voices of those who DO know what’s going on?”
