ok so. sorry for springing this on everyone. but im archiving this blog.
ive been thinking of doing it for a while. ive got like, over 98k posts, and i want to redo my tag system, and i have too many followers. i just need to start fresh, but i dont want to lose all the material i have on here, so this blog will remain as an archive. but im over at @sawasawako (again)! everythingās the same really, itās just a clean slate x
maybe this is just limited to my small circle on the internet but i feel like even a couple of years ago it wasnāt really common for āfandom criticismā or literary criticism posts to get circulated widely on tumblr with relatively little commotion and now i see a post like that every other week. which is great! but also i was fighting in the trenches when booktok was in its heyday

i used to hate āmetaā films and tv shows because i had never seen it done competently but now that iāve done a module on metafiction for my degree i actually think weāre not seeing meta get utilised to nearly enough of its potential. we could have films where an acknowledgement or confrontation of the fact that these are characters moving through the motions of a predetermined storyline could be used to thrill or to horrify, a feeling of being watched *back*, but instead the general concensus seems to be that 4th wall breaks can only be funny :( i thought deadpool was fun on my first watch but in hindsight i hate the effect that movie had on popular cinema
too often weāre seeing āmetaā moments onscreen written by people with a contempt for storytelling and a desire to make fun of and undermine the art form. we need meta jokes written by someone with a passion for the craft. we need more films made by people who read books

In addition, I think that baby that had the first gender reveal party ended up being trans. I remember the mother making a post about it with a pre-teenish aged child. So I think she even talked about how sex=/= gender and how gender reveal parties were not something she believes in anymore

as a woc w autism i def didnt think i was neurodivergent for a while bc of the way psychiatry frames diagnoses and the emphasis on white experiences only or dismissing stuff (like autism) as something mainly only present in children, it wasnt until i read a lot of other autistic adults talking ab their various experiences w conformity and social expectations, especially in needing to be aware of a script regarding a situation and how one is Actually supposed to react, the exhaustion that comes w āmaskingā (in the context of autism)
and various other things that were autistic related that i have and weighing out the symptoms i dont have that i finally realized i had autism, i hope u can find some conclusions but just sharing as your post sounded quite similar to my thought process before

re: neurodivergency, mental illness, and disability, im of the opinion that if the frameworks & resources help you understand your personal struggles better and give you a language for what you may be experiencing, regardless of whether it can be explicitly or definitively diagnosed as a āproblem,ā then they have served their purpose as tools for greater bodily autonomy. which is why everyone should be advocating for disability justice and reproductive rights and better sex ed and accessible drug use and hormone replacement therapy bc these are all things that protect/increase pplās bodily autonomy and benefit everyone in the long run. the impact shouldnāt have to extend to everyone in order for it to matter ofc but i think w bodily autonomy in particular itās something that a lot of ppl not affected by these policies (and also those who are affected!) donāt realise they have common interests in
From what I remember, the original gender reveal party was thrown by a woman who struggled with fertility to the point where her earlier pregnancies never made it far enough for a sex reveal, so her throwing a gender reveal party was actually to celebrate her pregnancy getting far enough to find out the sex, and after what gender reveal parties turned into, she expressed regret over starting the trend and actually has very progressive views about gender.

i cant 100% confirm that im neurodivergent but the reason i think i am is bc i keep forgetting that most ppl donāt overcompensate tonally via text
and most ppl donāt constantly self-edit their thoughts and what they express aloud. im not fastidious, somethingās just wrong with me š
the most damning thing is the unwieldiness of social cues, esp those that expect you to make the interaction seamless and painless. i have to consciously calibrate myself in social situations bc otherwise iāll come off as rude or clumsy or nonsensical, and this makes social interactions v draining and unfulfilling. plus i feel v fake while doing it bc im not giving honest reactions. bc my honest reaction is too mild to be considered appropriate for most situations. im alr a naturally reserved person so it makes it worse!

i have to be real i fucking hate that post. im dead serious. i do not like that its being circulated around again because its always just been an in for people to be ableist to me about a brain condition that i cant help. the person who declared it a 'world heritage post' did so without my permission and i just attempted to contact them to get their reblog of it removed. i wish they had contacted me beforehand because now im just getting more people in my inbox making fun of me for my inability to be coherent. it is extremely insulting.
like theres a reason i deleted the original post. i didnt want anyone to reblog it anymore. i had people literally going out of their way to laugh at me for my 'funny brain condition' and i was getting sick and tired of this. i have stated i dont appreciate this post getting spread around, like i dont know. it has to be at least five times now. and still it follows me everywhere. my aphasia isnt a joke. i didnt realize i had it at the time. dont reblog that post anywhere if you see it in the wild for my own safety and mental wellbeing.

wait actually i know why. its cause in the americas people started advertising specific colors for babies (ie blue for boy, pink for girl when before this it was jist whatever) cause they started inventing clothes with dye that wouldnt get washed out. so people could use colors instead of simple white which was common for all children before rhat (easy to bleach) which then - with added technology of being able to tell babes sex b4 their born - it gave rise to the possibility of baby gender reveals. i think there was a sudden spike of popularity in 50s - 80s i do not remember rhe time period.
but at least thats what i gleaned from research on other things so take it with a grain of salt.
