A small puff of a sigh drifted from chapped lips as he closed his math textbook. He felt crowded today, like his skin was slowly shrinking in closer to his bones. It got that way around this time of year and few things could shake it loose.Ā He despised the feeling and considered sleeping it off, but he needed to take his clothes to the laundromat.
Fingers carding absently through his shock of black hair, he stuffed his belongings back into his bag. The sun was beginning to disappear behind the distant city-line, showering the world in its soft amber haze. Sometimes it hit the RV just right and the dust motes meandering through the air became languidly dancing glitter instead. Today, it just seemed to highlight the gutted walls where furniture and appliances once were. It felt dead.Ā
Teeth nibbled at the cracked skin of his bottom lip as he fished his wallet from his pocket. He wasnāt sure he even had money to get home and that meant returning to the pawn shop with another belonging to hock for a couple thousand won. Before he could check, a sound pulled him toward the front of the vehicle. A knock, small, somehow hesitant. Was it Taehyung again? Had he gotten into another fight with his dad?
"Yoongi Hyung, are you here?"
A familiar voice called. Hoseok? Yoongi pushed the door open and poked his head out to spot the younger boy. He just stood there with that trademark grin on his face, a snow-cone in each hand. How...odd. First Tae, now Hoseok? Did he unknowingly have a neon sign above the camper that readĀ āCOME HERE!ā
"Wah, you really are still here. Do you ever go home?"
Hoseok asked, feet scuffing against the gravel beneath them as if unable to keep still. The question shouldnāt be anything different than casual talk, but that word stuck in the air, in Yoongiās mind. Home.Ā A scoff scraped past his throat.
"Not like I really have one to go to."
Ah, why would he say that? How stupid could he get? Sometimes he wondered why his brain-to-mouth filter was so faulty. His gaze flicked away from that dazzling smile and settled on the ground behind Hoseokās shoulder, hoping the other boy would just leave. Rather, Hoseok ducked down so that his face was once again Yoongi's focus. His smile was bigger now, almost comical though it didnāt reach his eyes.Ā
"Hey, that makes two of us. So, cherry or grape?"
Yoongi could only stare as the younger shoved both the snow-cones in front of him, quirking a brow in wait.Ā
He reached for cherry, not missing the pleased purse of Hoseok's lips or the small pin-point dimples that momentarily formed above them.Ā
