What happened to your army plans?
Well, the thing about me is that when I decide something I sort of just focus on that thing and don’t take into consideration that maybe I should try it out, be skeptical and look around first.
But no, I planned, since I was 14 years old that I was gonna join the navy to help and serve those who couldn’t protect themselves - all in all good intentions.
I had this idea that the navy takes most things serious, that at least the officers and commanders would know how to do their job and take it serious. But from my year and in my troop and division that was not the case.
I’ve experienced sexist and uncomfortable old men who thinks women are in the military to look pretty and nurse the soldiers. I’ve seen higher officers be abusive and bully other 18-21 year old soldiers and even made them cry when it was not needed and it was not a part of a “test” but in daily service and life. I’ve seen officers break rules and laws and still get promoted because “that’s how the military work”. Officers who like the thrill of “shooting people”, and almost every “training game” the enemy is foreign and most likely from the middle east - even though in the never time Norway’s biggest threat was a Norwegian man. And I’ve been in situations where my officers has yet to be fully educated so I had to take control and still they would not take my advice, even though I was more educated on the subject and later was told I was right and that the officer did not do his/her job.
So, tbf that is not the kind of environment I want to be a part of, it’s not what I expected from the Norwegian defense system and I’ve lost a lot of respect and faith in it.
And after joining Doctors without borders I have really opened my eyes to how much good a non-political and independent organisation can do.
The navy taught me a lot about myself and others and I’m very glad I did my one year, but I’ve also grown up and can see parts of the military as what it is; violent and in need of a change.
(though this does not mean I do not respect solders and that I am anti- military defense )
:)

Something my sister said once, that’s become an important thing to me (via legally-undead)
Getting things done 💪
my 20s aren’t my selfish years. my 20s are my hustle decade. Finish school get money pay back my loans establish myself work hard to create the foundation of a good life so that I can enjoy what’s coming next. Like yes I’d love to backpack across India or something but I’m broke! I have bills! I could quit my job take my meager savings and go on a 2 month trip and then what??? no job no home cause I got kicked out for not paying rent lmao
Enough. Maybe your 20s were the funtime years decades ago but not anymore. Don’t feel like you’re wasting your life bc you’re not hitchhiking in Europe or something. You’re doing fine. You’re doing what you can and that’s all that matters.
Unpopular opinion but I believe that working out every day, eating as “clean” as you can, and feeling guilty for not working out or not “eating clean” is not healthy for you. It’s a disorder behavior. It’s not normal to be that obsessed with working out and eating healthy. I know it’s emphasized so much in this fitblr community to workout and eat healthy, but there’s a point where it becomes disordered and obsessive in a bad way, and I’m seeing a lot of that here. Just know that it’s OKAY to miss a day working out and it’s OKAY not to eat the healthiest every day.
Someone FINALLY said it ✋🏻
GUYS. THAT IS NOT AN UNPOPULAR OPINION. That is LITERALLY an eating disorder. It’d be categorized as EDNOS right now, but I know it’s been discussed to specify a disorder that is based off of “eating right” and it’s down spiral to a legitimate eating disorder.
It’s called orthorexia. But it comes a very unpopular opinion when the very popular blogs of fitness side of tumblr doesn’t recognize this and thinks it’s completely normal. It’s very sad.
Bagels are so great honestly and I’m mad that I ever listen to fitness bloggers that said otherwise
I’m mad that two years ago, I avoided every carbohydrate that wasn’t a fruit or vegetable because fitness bloggers told me to. 😡
“Is that gluten free?” “Bread is bad” “just mix bananas and eggs to make a breakfast pancake” :))))))))))
Cauliflower rice :))))) vegetable bread :))))))) celery pasta :))))))
lol fuck that shit. Throw some pasta on a bagel and make a damn sandwich if ya want =P
Spaghetti tacos
Lets fuckin do this shit
Remember that everyone has their insecurities, love yourself because life it’s too short to be sad about how you look.
Also, with a small gesture you can make someone’s day a lot better (:
Don’t Congratulate Me For Running
I do not have the stereotypical “athletic” body, whatever that actually means. I admit, I am on the chubby side. I have curves. I like to think of myself as voluptuous. But even though my thighs touch and my stomach has a few curves, that doesn’t mean I don’t run or work-out.
During lunch one work day, I was down in the onsite gym – a decent facility with the typical cardio equipment, a complete set of free weights, and various weight machines. I had moved to Virginia back in the fall, and where I lived previously in California, I had walked everywhere, every day. The lack of walking, now that I was in Virginia, had resulted in some unwanted pounds. So I had started doing cardio at lunch, in addition to my evening workouts, to make up for the fact that I don’t walk as many miles everyday. That day, I opted to not just walk, but to do running intervals. When I do intervals, I mix it up, but that day I walked 3 minutes, then ran 2, which I repeated 5 times with a 5 minute cool, for a total of 30 minutes. In total, I did a little over 2 miles.
As it’s an onsite work gym, there are usually at least a half dozen or more people there at lunch. That day was no different. At least eight other people were doing a variety of workouts - walking, running, biking, strength training. Because I get bored on the treadmill, I tend to watch other folks. I noticed two other women running, one walking, one guy on the elliptical, two women and three guys doing a variety of strength training. I thought nothing of these folks, other than to see if I could get ideas on new and different exercises to do.
After my workout, I headed to the locker room to change. I just happened to be in there the same time as one of the other runners. She had, you could say, the stereotypical “athletic” body – narrow hips, flat stomach, sinewy arms, thighs that don’t touch. I had noticed that she ran the entire time she was on the treadmill, but I couldn’t tell you how long, how fast, or how far she had run. Yet the first thing this stranger said to me was “I saw you running. Way to go.”
I probably cocked my head like my dog does when I talk to him, because I was momentarily confused. Did she just give me a verbal high-five … for running? My internal dialogue at this point went a bit nuts. She just congratulated me on running because I’m fat. Would she have said the same thing to the young woman running on the treadmill next to her or the older man running a few treadmills down? I can’t say for sure since I don’t know this person (and had never seen her before that day), but I’m guessing, probably not. Being the enteral polite southerner, I stammered out some sort of thanks, and then stuttered something about intervals, which she responded that she also sometimes did. The only comeback I really made was to say that I ran for the bling – inferring that I did actually run races.
As usual, I thought of the perfect comeback hours later. I could have said “Yeah, today was a light run day because I have an hour of strength training this evening” (which I did do along with another 20 minutes of cardio). If I had been particularly saucy, I could have said, “Yes, I’m chubby, but that doesn’t mean I can’t run.” Instead, I said none of these things because I was flabbergasted. I honestly don’t think she said it maliciously. But I do think she said it out of ignorance – ignorance that only a certain body type is “athletic,” that only skinny folks are “fit.” And sometimes ignorance is almost as bad as viciousness.
My universal philosophy: don’t judge a book by its cover. Good advice for people as well as books. Just because I’m fat doesn’t mean I’m unfit. I can do a lot of things that so-called “fit” people can’t. I have great hip flexibility and can touch not only my toes, but put my palms flat on the ground. I do yoga and swim. I have finished multiple half marathons (13.1 miles), and have even done one full marathon (yep, I did all 26.2 miles). Yes, there are things I can’t do, but that’s true of anyone – we all have different strengths and different abilities. And thanks to my yoga practice, I have learned to listen to my body and I don’t judge myself against anyone else. My body works and moves its own way, and that’s going to be different from the way anyone else’s body works and moves. I compete only against myself and I recognized a long time ago, there’s some things I probably won’t ever be able to do (a full, unsupported pull-up – but that’s not for lack of trying), some things I work hard on (push-ups, crow position), and some things that come easy to me (tree pose, anything that involves hip flexibility). We each have our own abilities, our own strengths, our own goals and motivations. So don’t “congratulate” me for being in the gym – ask me whether I’m training for an event, or what my personal goals are, or even if I have any workout tips.
And if you see me out running, just say “hi.”

advice from me to you
From a girl who refused to wear shorts or skirts from the age of 9 till I could shave my legs ‘cause I thought I had hairy legs,
from a girl who started dieting at the age of 11,
from a girl who would stay up thinking about how useless and ugly she was from the age of 12,
from a girl who thought she was only worth something when she showed skin and boobs from the age of 13,
from a girl who joined the navy, chopped her waist long hair to above her shoulders, colored parts of it teal, wears whatever she wants, eats whatever she wants, say whatever she wants and do whatever she wants and has never felt better and more alive;
stop caring so much or hold back, you’re worth what you want and you should represent yourself in every single way you want to.
friends are supposed to make you feel good about yourself
just remember that
