RiskIntuitionLove, an improv piece that champions the narrative power of dance. In spite of its improvisational nature, clear motivations and physical spaces help drive the arc of the story; the conflict of independence vs. co-dependence in a relationship. From its flirty and aloof beginning, to its intense, and visceral, and intimate middle, to its uplifting (literally) yet grounded conslucsion, we find an immediately relatable story unfold before our eyes. With several physical locations acting as transitions between chapters of the tale, the performers' impressive performances are always framed.
Scott Almendinger, Ball Room dance instructor, filmmaker, cinematographer & editor www.pengypooproductions.com
In RiskIntuitionLove, by BCIJPG, I enjoyed the choice to have both dancers wear very similar costumes. This added to the relationship - its strength, its evolvement, and its intrigue The spoken word was just “right”. It wasn’t a face-to-face dialogue conversation… rather, due to the inflection of the words and interactions/reactions and expressions of the dancers, it gave an airy-directness to the relationship. The nook (ending) was though roughly enjoyable. At the end, when Nancy was holding up Scot and she was there, he was there. She was long and regal. Her expression in the sunlight, in her self-strength, and open sternum gave the relationship its content feeling “conclusion”. I loved how long she held this…once again, very appropriate and strengthening for the relationship that was this piece.

RiskIntuitionLove presented by BCIJPG
Scott Slocum and Nancy Hughes will be performing as BCIJPG and exploring their public dance practice as a private dance practice in a slightly public space. Creating a "world" to hold conflict, clowning around and love in serious movement play. BCIJPG is a dance performance group, which metamorphosed out of a regular contact improvisation practice. Contact Improvisation (CI) and dance improvisation are two forms of dance for curious and dedicated participants to delve deeper into connection to movement. This is achieved individually and with each other as BCIJPG experiments, conduct games, and theater exercises and taking the results of these different activities implementing them into a performance. BCIJPG re-examines the notions of who is a dancer, where dance is performed such as; subways, art galleries, co-operative housing and theatres, and what is a performance. The group reaches out to the surrounding community through workshops, participatory shows and education.
