Nancy Wheeler when she gets a new girl bestie :
You got Ronance headcanons?
i mean yeah definitely obviously but also this is so vague i immediately forgot every hc i've ever had about them
but ummm let's see
nancy realizes robin and vickie are dating in early august 1986. she's lying in bed, thoughts wandering as she tries to fall asleep, when she gets struck by a bolt of clarity and sits upright in a cold sweat thinking holy shit, robin's gay. a few things happen then. 1) she does in fact realize she's jealous, but she can't exactly explain why and chalks it up to a friend thing. 2) she is not in fact mean to vickie, she just can't really stand to be around when she and robin are in the same room. she tells herself it's so they can have some rare alone time. 3) years later when she and robin finally get together, she tells robin about all of this and robin thinks it's hilarious
i've talked about this one before but when they wake up together, robin always cooks breakfast, but robin always has to pop the biscuit can for her
this has def showed up in the cfdau and i consider it canon in the charmed au too although i can't remember if i ever put it in, but nancy will drag her feet on some mornings just so robin makes her coffee for her, because it always tastes perfect when robin makes it
the first time nancy gets in over her head in boston (so, like, a month into her first semester) she has a panic attack in her dorm room because she doesn't know what to do or who to turn to and she hasn't felt this alone in months, and it reminds her too much of that first year after barb went missing. but then, mid-breakdown, she remembers robin telling her how she has her back, how she wants to be around to help nancy. nancy gets up, washes her face, and calls robin, who arrives at her dorm just a little over two hours later. from then on neither of them ever question the fact that robin is nancy's partner in crime, and she'll always be there when she needs her
nancy has spent years certain she'll grow up and get a dog when she has her own place (ted and karen always said no), but when she gets her own apartment in boston and tells robin she's thinking about getting one robin is like 'really? i thought you'd be more of a cat person.' nancy has never once thought she's a cat person, but when she goes to the shelter to adopt she looks at the cats, too, and that's what she ends up taking home.
she spends the entirety of their next phone call avoiding robin's questions about whether she got a dog before finally mumbling out that she ended up getting a cat instead. she hangs up before robin can finish saying "i told you so"
budding alcoholic nancy does still live rent free in my head, thank you for asking, at she goes to a party at emerson and gets absolutely trashed. a couple girls from her dorm manage to get her home safe, but at that point she's both completely wasted and completely consumed by memories of junior year, being so haunted by barb and fighting with steve and all of it, so she's basically inconsolable. the other girls have no idea what to do, until nancy asks them to call robin because that's the person she knows she can turn to when she doesn't want to face something alone. robin is, once again, there within a couple of hours. her shirt is on inside out and her hair is still messy from sleep, but she's there
the first time robin calls nancy for help is finals week at the end of her freshman year. she's completely stressed, has gone through a semi-messy break up with another girl in her dorm, has hardly slept in a week because she's stressed about exams, and has barely eaten in nearly three days because she's saving the last of her money for the drive back to hawkins. she puts off asking for help for the longest time, because she knows if she asks steve he'll drive halfway across the country for her and she doesn't want that. and she really doesn't want nancy to see her like this, but then she pictures a tiny nancy on her shoulder scowling at her and calling her a hypocrite--she really, really needs to catch up on sleep--and swallows her pride and calls. nancy shows up two and a half hours later, but the extra time is because she stopped at a grocery store in northampton so she could stock robin's fridge as soon as she got there
they go to france the summer after robin graduates from smith. it's part graduation gift and part anniversary gift, and neither of them want to come back when it's over, but they do get to move into their new place in boston pretty much as soon as they're home. they both remember it as one of their favorite summers for the rest of their lives
I think the concept of Nancy and Robin having a middle school rivalry over Barb's friendship is so fun. Robin shows up to Barb's thirteenth birthday party and is abruptly pulled dragged aside by Nancy who gives her a lecture that essentially boils down to "Barb is my best friend and I'm her's and that is never going to change. Know your place." Nancy then spends the entire party basically glued to Barb (which, to be fair, she probably would've done regardless) and shooting daggers at Robin. Meanwhile Robin has already accepted that she and Barb aren't super close anymore so she goes home after the party and writes all this stuff in her diary about how much of an annoying stuck up priss Nancy is. Barb is oblivious to this whole situation.
I love the idea of Nancy slowly falling in love with Robin during their friendship and, with it, slowly realizing she’s attracted to women and then taking some time to figure out her sexuality before she confesses.
But I ALSO love the idea of Nancy being completely clueless about her sexuality for months of their friendship until she sees Robin in a baseball cap and a baggy tee shirt with the sleeves cut off on a random Tuesday and gets smacked with her sexual awakening so violently that she nearly passes out
the concept of this nancy and this robin
i was trying to think about a 'nancy has a girlfriend instead of robin' type scenario but i genuinely cannot imagine a world where nancy does not figure out she's gay and then track robin down or just endlessly pine after her
the thing is I truly just can’t let ronance go, every time I think I’m normal about them I remember literally any detail and I’m obsessed all over again. The most canon non-canon couple ever genuinely. Everything they do from the moment they start interacting just emphasizes how good they are for each other. And then you get into everything in the books, the barb between them, the shared yearning for something more than Hawkins that no one else understands, the juxtaposition of Robin vs Jonathan in one way or another and who’s really a good partner for Nancy, in every sense of the word. Like. It’s been four years and every once in a while I still stop and think holy shit they’re so good together
Robin being a little weirded out because Mike is extremely interested in her love life. Like, it’s all he wants to talk about, “Are you dating someone? Who are they? How long? What’s their name? Oh, you broke up? When?”
Obviously at first, she’s super vague, attempting not to out herself. But after a while (and after Steve puts a worry in her head that Mike may have a crush on her), she finally tells him she’s gay.
Mike doesn’t even seem shocked or disappointed. If anything, he seems even more excited than he had before, constantly asking her about her dates or if she has a crush on anyone and other similar questions, even getting Holly to start asking her instead whenever she starts to ignore his questions, all of which is highly concerning from Robin’s perspective, but she kind of pushes it to the back of her mind and just gives him the bare minimum in hopes that’ll be enough to make him leave her alone.
She finally mentions it to Nancy one night at a sleepover, both of them lounging on Nancy’s bed doing their own thing. Mike was being weird and quiet earlier at dinner, staring at Robin nearly the entire time unless she glanced over at him, and when that situation is brought up, Robin decides to open up to Nancy about the entirety of it.
“Yeah, he’s been acting weird as hell around me. Steve is convinced he has a crush on me but, god, I really hope he’s wrong.”
Surprisingly, Nancy freezes, face pale, so Robin rushes to add that she thinks Mike is a good kid— a shithead, but a good kid— but, obviously, it’s a little uncomfortable to discuss her love life with him, especially now that Steve has her so worried that Mike may have an ulterior motive.
Nancy is silent for a long moment, then buries her face in her hands.
“Oh, I’m gonna kill him.”
Turns out, the only reason Mike was asking all those questions was because Nancy had opened up to him about her own crush on Robin and he was trying to give her ‘updates’ on Robin’s love life in order to convince her to go for it. She had just thought he was getting those updates subtly, or through gossip, not that he was just straight up asking Robin all these questions.
It works out, anyway, but Nancy still glares at Mike every time he haughtily insists that him being her wingman is the reason she and Robin got together in the first place.
I really do wonder sometimes, if absolutely nothing about ST5 was different except that the epilogue rooftop scene didn't happen, would I be the way that I am today
would I have just let it go
would I be less insane about ronance
would I be normal about stranger things as a whole
natalia dyer maya hawke you did this to me, and I think it might have been on purpose?
Remembering the time I saw a hater on tt calling Nancy Wheeler a ‘pick-me’ as if she didn’t spend the entirety of the last season practically begging her love interests to stop picking her and just leave her tf alone for five minutes
A typical Ronance summer consists of:
Accidentally falling asleep on Robin’s roof
Spraying each other with the garden hose when they’re supposed to be watering the flowers
Arguing over whether vanilla bean ice cream is a valid ice cream flavor (it’s Nancy’s favorite) (“Here’s your milk flavored milk. I asked them for extra tasteless flecks. Enjoy.” “Thank you, Robin, you’re so kind”)
Nancy finding out that Robin has taken kitchen scissors to another one of her old shirts (she’s not complaining)
Midnight drives with the windows down and Bowie on the radio
Nancy’s constant sunburns
The dark freckles that start to appear on Robin’s nose
Scraped knees
Coconut sunscreen
Box fans in window frames (carrying in the scent of hot asphalt and unmowed grass)
Hanging upside down from tree branches
Trying on the stupidest sunglasses
Apple flavored beer
Totally uncool jean shorts
Piggy-back rides
Damp hair ends and the smell of drying chlorine on skin
Frilly socks and dirty white Keds
Reading the same book side by side
First kisses pressed against big oak trees (and many more kisses after that, as well)
the thing is that the epilogue robin outfit looks so much more in line with the clothes nancy made her wear for pennhurst than the clothes robin wore literally any other time in the show so like how are we supposed to conclude anything other than thag shes wearing nancys clothes again. because she slept over at nancys. because they
truly where would we be as a fandom without eskawrites’ ronance fics
the first season of a show is kinda like a dead wife
Robin saving Nancy from vecna theory you are DEARLY missed. #whoremembers
I have a lot of admiration for people who join fandom for things that they think are actually good and well-written, but unfortunately that will never be me.
At the end of the day if I find something actually good with very few flaws the fandom bug will not bite me. There needs to be something about the source material that my brain feels needs correcting so that I can create scenarios tm about it.
