fascinating how in season one robby outright said “i wasn’t thinking about those girls, i only saw a sad boy and wanted to protect him” admitting his misogynistic biases and that he cared more about a mentally ill guy than several girls that could be murdered. and yet people are still soooo convinced he isn’t misogynistic in the slightest. just because noah wyle thinks robby isn’t biased doesn’t mean you have to think that way too. form your own thoughts with what you see on screen.

and it’s even funnier when we see fandom also care more about a mentally ill guy than several women being treated badly. one can only laugh. art imitates life and vice versa ❤️

It’s actually so foul to creat a character who spends the entire series saying fuck your heteronormative nuclear family and trying to break free from the misogynistic box she had been shoved into only to immediately walk it back and start going “oh, her and the man she broke it off with because she needed to find herself could be married *wink wink* you never know 😜” as soon as the credits roll

Something I will never get over is how Giles just leaves.

He confronts Willow about her magic use after raising Buffy from the dead, and being a young cocky person she ignores him. Then when Tabula rasa comes around and she’s really amped up her magic abuse and has actually started to hurt those around her, he just goes. Sure he’s leaving because he thinks Buffy relies on him too much and she needs to be independent (which is a whole other issues itself. she’s barely into her 20s, has lost her mom, and now has to single parent her little sister on top of the saving the world stuff. Not to mention the dragged out of heaven of it all.)

He just watches Willow start down the same path he spend his youth lost on. And he just leaves. In his youth he was a bright young man with a future, then he was Ripper, a trouble maker who abused magics and rebelled and had dangerous demon possession orgies.

She looked up to him. She trusted him. And he left. She was young and stupid and cocky and so much like a young Giles. Giles had been there. He had acted out and hit rock bottom. He knows what it's like, and he just leaves. He’s been there, he knows how bad it can get and he still goes back to England.

I think Giles does see a lot of himself in Willow and realizes that he should have been there for her. And that’s a big part of the reason he takes her to England for rehabilitation. After everything that happened in his youth he had a chance and was able to turn his life around and name a real meaningful difference in the world. He had to give the same chance to Will.

no because why would the Duffers write Robin to explicitly say she gets anxious and ramble-y when around a girl she likes before sticking her with Nancy for the entirety of the season and writing her to be an anxious ramble-y mess???

The Duffers could’ve absolutely cooked and made Vecna target Robin so we could see Nancy 1. freak the fuck out over potentially losing another best friend and 2. finally save her best friend because she’s not focused on boys anymore (even while two are fighting over her). Finally ‘choosing’ Barb (Robin) who just so happens to be Steve’s best friend too, which would make his story high stakes as well.

And if they did that as well as hide what happened to Holly for just a little longer, they could’ve had s1 vibes that were just different enough to not make the season boring and predictable.

But, no, of course not, why would they focus on dynamics that have been set up for seasons when they could focus half the season on characters we barely know?

Before they got together, Nancy had a major crush on Robin’s mom.

Which makes a lot of sense, Robin looks JUST like her mother except younger, and though Nancy has come out as a lesbian, she still hasn’t quite come to terms with the fact that she likes Robin yet. So when she sees the older Buckley woman for the first time when the group is hanging out at Robin’s house, she immediately freezes and turns bright red, barely able to keep her cool long enough for niceties (She seems normal to anyone who isn’t her friends)

Steve doesn’t let her off the hook about it for hours. Robin is strangely irritable about it. Jonathan has that stupid look that means he thinks he’s noticed something that Nancy hasn’t, but won’t say anything when she asks. And Nancy is wondering why she ever came out to them.

When she and Robin get together, Steve jokes that Nancy is ‘making an investment’

Nancy and Robin talking about getting out Hawkins after finally ending the upside down bullshit and beating Vecna.

Nancy talks about finally getting to go to Emerson and asks Robin about whether she’s ever thought of leaving Hawkins.

Robin tells Nancy that she has and starts talking about operation croissant and how she planned a trip to Paris in highschool, but never actually ended up going. She talks about how silly it was in retrospect and brings up the fact that she was planning to do it all with Tammy Thompson to really emphasize how goofy of a plan it was.

This leads Nancy to start putting some of the pieces together. Will was talking about “his Tammy”, he’d been hanging out a lot with Robin right before coming out, and now Robin was talking about how she wanted to take Tammy Thompson on a trip to Paris with her in highschool?

Once again thinking about this bit from one way or another:

“'Nancy Wheeler? She’s little miss Hawkins. Smart girl. Good girl.'

There are three guns stashed in my bedroom right now, Nancy thought.”

She seems like your stereotypical girl next door, but she’s got this entire other world she’s entangled and involved in. She’s not what she seems on the surface. So much of her character is about rejecting the heteronormative picket fence nuclear family. I feel like realizing she’s queer would be such a natural progression for her character.

also really hit home by:

“You think I want that?… A boy, a wedding, a family. You think I want to be like you?”

Like what is the straight explanation for her even saying that? It’s one thing for her to list off a wedding and family as something she doesn’t want, but including a boy in that list? Girlie, what?

She's so queer coded its insane.

There’s something very interesting about Vecna forcing Nancy to watch as the vines in the Creel house strangle Robin during Piggyback. She could have been facing Steve, the guy she has a history with, but no she’s across from Robin. Especially with the editing choice of showing Nancy and then Robin getting strangled directly after as he’s talking about destroying Hawkins and then the world (Nancy’s world?). Nancy’s literally watching Robin die as Vecna monologues about destroying the world.

Vecna is cruel, he wants to hurt his victims. He wants to taunt them.

He’s been in her head, in her memories and in her thoughts and he knows.

Looking for a job in the arts in the age of ai slop is such a Sisyphean task because every time I find a decent job listing I scroll down and they’re asking you to be proficient in making garbage using one of the hundreds of evil water guzzling theft machines so I am once again thrown right back down to the base of the mountain with no real progress while the boulder of rising anti intellectualism comes crashing down upon me once more

choosing to believe that Deborah, in her "fuck it, i'm dying so I might as well" "I don't have to live with the consequences" mindset, finally lets go enough and her and Ava finally fuck in that fancy Parisian hotel

I really love how the scene where Deborah decides not to kill herself mirrors the one of her hiring Ava as her writer. The thing that convinces Deborah to live is also the thing that brought her and Ava together in the first place and it's beautiful.
