born in nevada, her parents first met thanks to a chance encounter while her mom was traveling & researching for an upcoming book. nancy was an unexpected surprise in their lives, but fast-forward five years and they were sealing the deal, getting hitched in new york where her mom had the gaudy, mega wedding of her dreams.

as an only child, she’s never been super aware of how spoiled she is. doted upon by wealthy grandparents throughout her childhood, running amok in the streets of nyc with friends all through her teens, and never getting a lecture beyond “you’re grounded!” definitely made nancy feel a little bit like she could get away with murder.

kinda a no-brainer decision, but only the beginning of a snowballing problem

she could get sober in a cushy facility, find her zen during months of therapy, and think up as many master life plans as she wanted, but back in the Real World? where all the choices were ultimately her own? well... nancy sure did like getting high, even if it meant finding cheaper, quicker fixes as time went on

it was her mom who once again caught on, somewhere between rehab stay #2 and #3, and forced nancy onto a shorter leash by moving her directly into the guestroom of her penthouse, hoping to cut the cycle short and stop her from treading water forever.

no booze, a ban on visitors, and the constantly buzzing presence of her mom....... it shouldn’t have been that big of a surprise when she ran away. literally.

finding out that a friend was visiting family in california, nancy jumped at the chance to tag along. she packed up as much of her stuff (and her mom’s djnsdksd) as she could and got the hell outta dodge.

she settled down in silver lake for almost 2 years, working odd jobs and inevitably backsliding into her addictive habits & partying lifestyle before she was beckoned back home. it was during her solo road trip to nyc that she made a pitstop in bradford springs and just.... kinda... never hit the road again lmfao

snagged a job at half moon motel where she’d been staying and moved into a trailer all on her own <3

she’s still lowkey desperate to prove her independence (to herself, to her parents, to the world), but she’s not totally opposed to roommates or longtime houseguests!!

always picking up random hobbies to try and keep herself busy, though they rarely last. her latest kick is tie-dyeing and bleaching old clothes, so best believe that her place reeks atm

There was a beat, a good couple seconds where he was trying to decipher if she was being for real or what— surely he didn’t know a lot but the lot that he did was fire and gas stations were a no-no. “Uh, do I gotta run?” He asked, whistling out the steam that came from within in the near freezing temps; the view he got when she bent over inside the car not one to mind ending his whole world on. Straightening when she returned purse in hand, clearing his throat, “Whoa uh, you’re not really lookin’ to blow some shit up are you? You’re a chick, just go inside, ask the dude for an IOU.” 

She snorted. “I hate my life, but I’m not suicidal, dude. Besides, I hear that it’s extreme agony to burn to death. Go figure.” Nancy did find her BIC within her purse, though, its shimmery wrap chipping off around the base. She pulled it out just to be a tease, brows lifting a touch when brown eyes flicked back to the other. A smirk quirked at the corner of her mouth before she stuffed it into the pocket of her jeans and shrugged, finally surfacing with a couple crumpled bills. “I’m already, like, three IOUs deep with this guy,” Nancy admitted, craning her neck to squint inside the convenience store, trying to see who was on shift. The asshole or the softy? Or was it the idiot? “I’m not really looking forward to seeing how he thinks he’ll get to cash in... Wait -- do you have a car?” She frowned at the brunet, just then struck with how odd it was that he was loitering in a gas station parking lot.

Aiyla all but cluttered her keys and phone back into her purse before she snapped a harsh glance to the blonde. “Of course I screamed, you sounded like you crawled up from Hell, thank you very much.” she quipped, snooty and uncaring. If there was going to be a bitch-off, she could do it all day but she would prefer to get away from the gas station. It really did give her the creeps. The last words made Aiyla roll her eyes and gesture limply to the pump. “And you should’ve stayed home if you can’t afford gas. It looks like we both need some life lessons.”

Nancy’s frown deepened and her eyes darkened. “I can afford gas,” she snapped, the words tumbling from her lips before she could think of a wittier alternative. “The pump’s fuckin’ busted. It’s not my fault,” she continued on, halfway lying while smacking the side of the machine again, giving the mocking error screen one more look. Call it fifty-fifty; Nancy and the gas pump were both currently broke, just in very different ways. She drew in a slow breath, grip tightening around her declined cards before she chucked them back into her purse, realizing she had to go inside Pump You Up as much as she’d been trying to avoid it. “Everything in this shitty town sucks,” she grumbled, glancing to the other as she started to march for the entrance, bad mood doubling.

“–All I’m saying is that he’s lucky it was just a punch in the nose. I’m getting a little fed up of these old ass fossils not understanding the word no.” Lisette felt no remorse for the actions she just took, which involved punching a much older gentleman in the nose, who insisted she dance with him. “He called me a bitch. Admittedly, I am one but what the fuck.” She still felt extremely fired up by the altercation and it was written all over her face. “Should we leave before I get in trouble? We should just leave, huh?” 

PDV was her favorite -- public displays of violence. Suddenly, her dull night at Neon Boots was looking up, taking a total one-eighty from staring into the depths of her melted piña colada to witnessing the redhead taking a swing. Nancy didn’t particularly consider herself a feminist, but there was just something about watching a dude get slugged by a girl that was like an adrenaline shot of pure fuck yeah, womanhood! “What?” she asked with a confused pinch of her brows, manic grin shrinking slightly. “No, no, fuck that! If anyone should have to leave, it’s him. The guy was obviously harassing you -- and if he tries to say otherwise, I’ll back you up.” But would he even bother? In Nancy’s experience, men didn’t exactly want to admit to anything that emasculated them. “C’moooon,” she pleaded with a soft whine, reaching out to tug on the other’s arm because she was a little bit drunk already. She patted the empty barstool beside her. “Lemme get us a round of shots to celebrate that douche’s much-needed reality check.”

A grimace paints itself across her features, the simple action enough to communicate what it was the blonde refused to say, be it for the sake of her job or Lyra. It wasn’t unheard of within her travels, to hear the negative remarks people made when she shared knowledge of where she was staying, as if it was concerning that someone like her would take temporary residence in a motel, as if it was somehow below her. They were words she had always denounced however, any comments seeming trivial when she was sitting in a place on her own, that she had payed for, doing the things she had chosen for herself. “Perhaps we should both be thanking whatever is out there ruining that man and yours days that it was only metaphorically and not actually shitty.” Taking things for granted seemed to be common in the world around her, a trait Lyra refused embrace, even when outside forces told her she should feel otherwise. There’s a not so pleasant sound echoing as she launches the few pieces deemed unsalvageable back into their, perhaps not quite final, resting place. It’s left her with a haul that would have been enough to satisfy the female, especially considering the fact that she hadn’t anticipated going on the hunt for anything that evening, but Nancy’s words are offering something even more intriguing, bringing a wicked glint to the brunette’s eye. “Have I ever told you that I adore you?” She calls before her feet start moving, bringing her in step alongside the other. “Because, I do, in fact, quite adore you.”

She tossed her head back and laughed, the sound echoing out around them and bouncing between the pavement and brick of the otherwise empty alleyway, amplifying her cackle even further. “I could use more adoration,” she answered with a slow, thoughtful nod. But did she deserve it? Nope. “Maybe mention that to my manager if you ever gotta stay here again and I’ll get a whole fifty cent raise.” Cigarette resting between her red-brownie colored lips, Nancy picked through her keys while they walked, leading them to a door that was at the far end of the motel and marked with a big, red placard: STAFF ONLY. She made quick work of unlocking the deadbolt and dragging and heavy door open, holding it and gesturing for the other woman to enter first. When she followed, the metal door slammed on its own and motion sensor lights were already flickering to life. “So, we do technically have a lost and found box at the main office,” she prefaced, pausing in the entryway to stub her cigarette out on the sole of her shoe. “But sometimes I sorta just... pilfer from it.” A placid smile slid across Nancy’s features as she went about uncovering her stash. One wall was lined with industrial washers and dryers, a few of the machines running loudly, and there was a large empty table for folding in the middle of the room. She headed for the storage shelves, moving a few miscellaneous things around before heaving up a large box onto the table. “Have at it,” she invited with a wave, leaning an elbow onto the surface and only peering in for a moment before she looked to the brunette. “I swear it’s all piss-free and safe. Just stuff tourists leave behind, y’know. This is how I scored a pair of Gucci sunnies.” Predictably, they’d turned out to be fakes, but Nancy still rocked them.

It wasn’t that Lyra had reason to expect any form of judgement or hostility from the blonde, merely that this was her place of work’s trash that she was currently digging through and had she been displeased, be it because she actually cared or simply that she had to pretend to, it would have been understandable. It’s a different reaction all together she receives however, and pale lips seem to mirror the coyness of Nancy’s own for a brief moment, just before they slip into a grimace. “Oh, yeah, no. I definitely smelled those the second I opened the lid and was nearly traumatized. -Though it does oddly reassure me that the sheets during my stay were cleaner than the speak of motels would have originally led me to believe. And I beg that you don’t shatter that illusion if such wasn’t the case.” There’s almost a skill to the way she’s working through the pile before her, eyes seeming to need only a second to determine worth before the items are sorted, clearly having some level of experience with what she was doing. It’s treasure to few other than her, a pile of metal filters that had likely been forgotten about in some storage space and ultimately destined for the trash had Lyra not passed by at the right time. “I’m hoping he checked out?” Assuming it was a he; something she didn’t register until after the words left her lips, yet it felt likely. “Lord knows one round of someone else’s soaked sheets is enough for…well honestly a lifetime if you ask me.” 

A surprised snort slipped from Nancy, unwilling to believe anyone could have such a positive attitude when discussing urine-soaked sheets, but here they were. She mimed the motion of zipping and locking her lips, hand giving a little twist before taking another drag from her cigarette. It was probably for the best that she didn’t mention the fact that while the new bedding may have been so fresh it was still warm from the dryer, she’d done nothing more than flip the mattress after hitting it with a hairdryer, and called it a day. “Oh, yeah, the dude split before we’d even realized he wet the bed,” she answered with a reassuring nod. “Which, y’know, shitty. But also good on him, I guess. Who wants to deal with that embarrassment and get hit with a cleaning fee.” Might as well be staying up at The Stanley if they had that kind of cash lying around.

Nancy watched as the other woman went about sorting her finds, standing in a relatively comfortable silence while puffing away. She supposed that maybe it was uncomfortable for the brunette, moving garbage back and forth with someone watching over her shoulder, but whatever. It was free entertainment for her at least. After a minute or two, she hummed low and piped up again to ask, “Wanna see where I keep the real good shit?” Nancy’s brows moved suggestively, up and down as smoke streamed from her nostrils, making the growing curve of her grin look more nefarious than intended. Not waiting for a response, she unclipped the carabiner of a million keys from her belt loop and tipped her head to the side, feet leading her down the long length of the building. “C’mon.”

as much as he relied on his beat-up seventies ford pickup , painted the garish orange of space hoppers and early morning sunsets , the gas tank spluttered into submission more often than striker could afford . he had attempted to skirt around the problem , ‘ borrowing ‘ canisters from the ranch and employing flawed logic by thinking alcoholic concoctions were a viable alternative , powering machines as it powered himself . rattling up beside the pumps and leaping from the front bench of his truck , the male’s whiskey hues narrowed ; for once , it wasn’t him engaging in a one-sided argument with technology . “ you alright there , girly ?? “ he questioned , fingers smoothing down the splayed sides of overgrown and silver-speckled facial hair , glancing over one shoulder to spy whether or not the attendant was watching from the other side of frosted glass , “ — hey , how’s about i distract ‘em so you can speed outta here ?? “

“Clearly not,” she answered in a low grumble, the words said more to herself than the man who’d just rolled up in the orange monstrosity that looked more like a deathtrap than a vehicle, and reeked of oil and gasoline all on its own. Or, on second thought, maybe that smell was him. Nancy glanced over, her head cocking to one side at the offer. It sounded more playful than genuine, and even if he had been serious -- “Yeah, I wish,” she snorted, giving a short eyeroll. “I haven’t gotten the gas yet. I think I’d make it, oh... maybe two feet into the street before that high speed chase was over.” Nancy looked back to the gas pump and just couldn’t help herself, smacking the side of her fist against the touch screen repeatedly, an errant string of beeps and error noises ringing out before she once again spit a frustrated sound and gave it a rest. Maybe it was time that she came to terms with the fact that she was officially a broke bitch. “You ever have one of those weeks where it’s like, nothing fucking matters? You’re getting shit on no matter what you do?” she asked rhetorically, a bitter chuckle spilling out.

Drew chucked back an altruistic nod, one that said she’d never hesitate to step in for Nancy, no matter the issue. Trust came sparingly for her, but the other young woman made it seamless for Drew. And judging by Nancy’s witty rhetoric, it was no wonder. Drew snorted at her rug comment, tossing her eyes back with an accompanied ludicrous smirk. “I know, I know, I’m sure the sun shined ten times brighter when I blessed this town with my arrival. Birth and otherwise.” Drew perched her card back into her bag, leaning against Nancy’s car. Never once did she show Nancy pity or think any less of her when situations like that arose. Drew was more than aware that the golden-haired woman could very well take care of herself. “Yeah, I’m gonna have to make smarter choices with my sleeping schedule if I’m gonna snag a job up soon.” What job, though, no clue, whatsoever. “Damn, Voight, are you this hospitable with everyone or have I just run into the Pump You Up pot of gold?·· · ·But, first, quick munchie stop before we go?” Drew raised an earnest thumb, hinting towards the gas station and the endless possibilities of snacks that await them.

Brown eyes rolled toward the clear sky, shoulders shrugging up to her ears as her arms crossed over her chest. “You know what they say... misery loves company.” Truly, Nancy took no issue with getting high on her own (obviously), but when it came to Drew, she enjoyed the company. Besides, a bowl felt like fair payback for a tank of gas, anyway. Somehow, between the two of them, there always seemed to be a floating fifty bucks, exchanged back and forth in the form of drinks at The Phoenix or getting grilled cheese sandwiches at 2 A.M. from Little Goat. They always wound up even without keeping tabs. “For sure, lemme grab my shit.” Nancy dove back into her car, snagging her purse from the passenger seat and tossing her keys into it for safekeeping. Her hair was desperately in need of some dry shampoo (or, even better, an actual shower!) and knotted up into a messy bun atop her head, which was where she stuck her sunglasses as she slammed the door, the pump jumping in the same second. She went through the motions of putting the nozzle back on its holster before flashing Drew a satisfied smile, head jerking towards the convenience store and not wasting any more time before heading in that direction. “You making any headway on the job search?” she asked, shouldering the door open and looking around. Nancy would be the last person to pressure anyone into a 9-to-5 hellscape, but she was curious. “Anything but fast food is my motto,” she advised. All it took was one summer at In-N-Out to learn that lesson.

Shiv had just pulled into the gas station in her Jeep after finishing up her workout session with her new trainer. Her team wanted her to be in peak shape, far better than she ever had been in her life and so starting now would have her incredibly prepared for the upcoming competitions and tournaments. It was becoming quite the adjustment to stepping into the role of professional athlete all at once. The buffer of schooling had lessened the consistency of her training and now it was full throttle with the foot nowhere near the break. As she popped open her gas cap, she looked over to the pump next to her where a blonde was freaking out. As she put the nozzle into the car, she walked over towards the other. “So, making the mental note to not use pump eight ever,” she chuckled lightly. “Do you need a few dollars?” 

Her nostrils flared as she drew in a deep, steadying breath, doing everything she could to exhale her anger in one concise whoosh. “I’m so glad that someone can benefit from my misfortune,” she answered with a tight-lipped smile, her tone so sugary sweet that it couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than sarcasm. But Nancy really didn’t mean it -- especially not when it seemed like she had the chance of actually getting out of here with even just a little gas in her tank. There was no way that running on fumes would get her back to Sunnyside. “If you have a couple bucks to spare, yeah,” she relented in the next second, head bobbing a little. “That’d be great. It turns out my parents cancelled the credit cards I share with them and didn’t think to tell me, so...” Nancy was pulling her cellphone from her back pocket as she spoke, automatically opening her previous texts with her mom and tapping out a furious line of emojis along an angry, all-caps message.

Think that was a movie though…” Cooper appeared from the other side of the pump on his way to where he didn’t even know, walkability of the town a bonus though he’d noted in the last couple weeks, “What’re you gonna do?” He asked, a tinge of guilt for the girl, he couldn’t just pass by but knowing full well he had nothing really to help her with. Patting his pockets, pulling out a quarter he twisted in his pocket out of habit. “Left my card back at the lift, otherwise I’d—” pay? Unlikely but the sentiment was there. 

Predictably, the voice chiming in from the other side of the gas pump was pretty much the last thing Nancy wanted to hear right then. She paused her onslaught on the machine to take a side-step and stare, her expression just as pinched and sour as ever as she assessed the other. If their positions had been reversed, what would she have done? Laugh and stroll right into Pump You Up, walking out with a Big Gulp the size of her head and a bag full of snacks she didn’t even have the appetite for. As it were, though, Nancy was boned. “I could blow this place to kingdom come,” she said on a heaving sigh, perhaps sounding a touch too serious about it, like the consideration was really there. “It’s cold as tits out, anyway. Might be nice to have a fire, huh?” She turned back to the open driver side door and swiped her purse, rifling through it in the hopes of finding some loose change lost amongst all the junk -- and not a lighter. Although... she was partial to the idea of watching her junker of a car go up in flames.

Worn black boots collide almost harshly with the cement as she jumps, without warning, from her vantage point, bandaged hands dusting themselves off onto her pants for no real purpose as she’s just as quickly reaching back out for the items she’s collected on the ground, allowing her the chance to better analyze them and their worth now that she’s on solid ground. She discovered many years ago that it was almost criminal, the things people - and more often companies, threw to the trash without a second thought, items that had sometimes not even gotten a chance at a first life let alone a rebirth they could withstand. Though, speaking of criminal, Lyra’s entirely unsure as to the exact specifics when it came to laws regarding what it was that she was doing, which is precisely why the sound of footsteps has her turning so quickly, an expression of half guilt washing over her features.  “Is this the part where I ask you to believe this isn’t what it looks like? …even if it’s clearly what it looks like?”

Her shoes scuffed across the pavement as she rounded the building, stopping short when she spotted the woman crouching beside a heaping pile of junk. Nancy had a fifteen minute smoke break and zero intention of wasting even one iota of a second of it by lecturing someone about something as trivial as the law. “What doesn’t look like what?” she asked on a smoky exhale, both hands raising in a gesture of surrender, cigarette held between her index and middle fingers. “I’m just out here all on my own. Don’t see a thing. Not a soul.” A smirk was twisting at the corner of her mouth, eyebrows slowly climbing for her hairline. She hoped this chick picked up what she was putting down -- she didn’t give a shit. Nancy could’ve caught her in the act of hauling out a TV from one of the rooms and she still wouldn’t’ve stopped her, as long as she’d paid the proper hourly rate beforehand. Wandering a few steps further, she turned to lean back against the brick of the building, her windbreaker swishing while she took another slow drag. “I’d be careful over there if I were you, though,” she advised. “We just tossed out some pissy sheets this morning. Still wet.” Nancy was no stranger to dumpster diving. You could find some serious gems if you hit the right locations. But, the Half Moon Motel? Not such a hot spot to dive.

Plus, I got some insane sale that had it going for around 200 instead of 600. What is that like, a 400% markdown?” Talia was just speaking out of her ass, truthfully very little clue how money worked, to this day. Her eyes dropped to Nancy’s plate and the ranch and ketchup swirling together like a bad Jackson Pollock. “What would you call that? Retch-up?” she said, smirking at her own clever wordplay. Maybe it wasn’t that clever, but she was going to give herself the credit anyway. “You can totally ride up without skis. I’ve done that before. It’s so fun to watch people and just drink on the way up and make fun of everyone below wiping out…good spectator sport.” 

“Holy fuck!” Nancy’s eyes practically bugged out of her head as Talia talked numbers, swallowing and licking her lips to bleat in complete disbelief, “Snowboards are that expensive? For real?” How long did people even use the same board for? Somehow, she’d always thought of them as weirdly disposable items; use the gear for a winter, dump it, and start fresh the next. But apparently not. Shaking her head, she scooped up another gloopy fry, wistfully thinking about everything she’d drop half a grand on. “Retch-up,” she repeated, snorting out a laugh around her bite, at least having the courtesy to hold a hand in front of her mouth. “I dig that. As much as she was dreading winter, her first real one in two years since having been posted up in Silver Lake for so long, checking out some of the lodges around town sounded like a good time. “Maybe I’ll tag along with you whenever the season starts,” she suggested, inviting herself without an offer. “How often should I expect to see you wipeout?”

It was her unexceptional day-to-day routine that had led her to this. Drew had emerged from her four A.M. to about two P.M. cocoon that was her house to shuffle down to the Pump You Up gas station for her daily coffee before taking her usual jaunt around town when the agitated sounds of one of her very good friends, accompanied with some stomping, occurred just around the corner from Drew. The dirty blonde deviated around the corner hastily to, in fact, see Nancy, a fellow town recreant whom, in a short span of time, Drew actually shared what seemed like increasingly similar minds with. She approached Nancy with her hands up, as if surrendering to her, a cheeky grin stippling across her lips. She glimpsed the gas pump screen and with profound sarcasm, (because she was an asshole) said, “Ma’am, I think violence against an inanimate object is against the law. However, I see your kicking and raise you-” Drew fished out her debit card and waved it to Nancy jovially, “An out-of-work, washed up actress’ card. It can be for all those times you’ve had to see me bring who-knows-what back to the Half Moon at two in the morning.” 

Oh. So that’s what it felt like to see a friendly face while stuck in a dire time of need. Relief flooded her system as she recognized Drew’s lilting voice, some of the fight extinguished from her being with the slow sag of her shoulders when she glanced over to spot the other woman. A grin was beginning to crawl across Nancy’s face as she reached out to delicately pluck the debit card from the other’s grip. She never had been and never would be above charity. “I’d offer to munch your rug as a thanks if I thought you swung that way,” she answered crassly, card effortlessly swiped and accepted. Hallelujah! “You just saved my ass, seriously.” Nancy passed the card back before going through the motions of stuffing the gas nozzle into her shitty sedan’s tank, making sure that it was set to fill before turning back to Drew. “I’m kinda surprised to see you in the daylight,” she ribbed lightly, biting the tip of her tongue as she smiled. Nancy, too, generally preferred a more nocturnal lifestyle, but after pissing off her manager and getting saddled with morning shifts for two weeks straight? Well... she could only ‘fight the Man!’ so much. She needed the money -- clearly. “You out running errands or somethin’? Wanna go smoke a bowl at my place?”

Nothing ever happened at the gas station which was why Dusty finally had a job he was good at. He also managed to get it completely wrong on a daily basis. He was watching the blond from behind the desk, chewing on a candy that he opened and didn’t pay for in full display of the security cameras.  She had picked the useless pump, rookie mistake but Dusty didn’t correct her or rush to help until he saw her getting more and more frustrated. He stepped outside and lit a cigarette immediately, wandering over to the pump with a cocky stride.  “Calm down, calm down. Gonna scare every critter from here to Utah.” he scoffed, and gently pushed her aside. “Leave it to the professional, dollface.” Dustin said, and took a moment to look at the pump. Then he kicked it and stepped aside with a proud look to the blond. “Now try but I will warn you, I will get ten times sexier when you see that it works.”

“-- Hey!” Nancy continued to glower as she was shoved to the side, taking a stumbling step to get out of the way of the quote-unquote professional. Her arms were stubbornly crossed over her chest, watching and waiting to see the pump get fixed... and then he kicked it, just like she had been doing not ten seconds earlier. “You’re kidding me, right?” Either the universe was taking a massive dump on her night or this guy was personally fucking with her. Sighing, she plucked a card at random from her hand, stepping up to the card reader to slide it in and pull it back out, the fateful beep of rejection ringing out again. “Hear that?” Her brows leapt as she blinked back to him. “You’re still lookin’ pretty dickless to me.” Nancy clucked her tongue and turned on her heel, going to yank open the door of her car and stretch across the driver seat, rifling through the console for change. Mostly all she had were coins, but she supposed it was about time she cashed in her lucky two-dollar bill. “Can I just pay cash inside?” she asked, hip-checking the door shut again, “Or does nothing work around here?”

Aiyla didn’t like filling her own car up with gas, which was one good thing about Ecrin living with her. She could get him to do it but sometimes he made a point to not do it. Just to be annoying. The worst brother in the world. So, here she was having to pump her own gas like a commoner.  She was already a jumpy person, coupled with the gas station being just one of those creepy seeming places. When the guttural noise left the other woman, Aiyla’s car keys and purse dropped to the ground as she squealed. “Jesus!” she yelped, startled and blinking at the other. “You almost gave me a heart attack! There’s no need for a noise like that.” Aiyla sighed, scooping up her belongings. 

“You’re the one squealing like a pig,” Nancy all but snarled back, a hand braced against the pump as she jerked to the side, neck craning to blatantly stare at the woman. She watched as the other crouched to pick up everything that’d spilled from her purse and didn’t offer to help in the slightest. Had she been closer to her, she might’ve even kicked her keys across the parking lot just for the hell of it. Too bad. “You should’ve stayed home if you can’t handle the sight of people expressing themselves,” she lectured, briefly mimicking her mother’s prim and proper tone for effect.
