Hey, Hello,

So we have some good news, some bad news and some other good news.

The good news is we are honoured and delighted to be playing Day 2 of New Friends Fest on August 4th alongside some of the best bands in North America. Get yr weekend passes ASAP because its going to be nuts: https://www.facebook.com/events/304910866712863/

The bad news is that this will be our last show together for the foreseeable future. A little over a year ago Kai decided to step away from the band for a moment to focus on other projects, and between then and now Van has been accepted into a post-grad program and is moving back home to Simcoe County at the end of summer. So that just leaves me (David), and since I am busy finishing up school myself Nanette is not seeking new members at this time and is effectively on hiatus. Thanks to everyone who booked us, played with us, loaned us gear, ubered us, watched us, bought a tape, wore our shirts in public or was generally aware of our existence, it means everything.

The other good news is that while we have been relatively quiet for the past year, we have also been slowly working on a new EP with our good friend Dean Snowball (Huge Cosmic, Piper Maru). It is currently in the final stages of mixing and fingers crossed will be out sometime in July! Album art, titles and all that are forthcoming--but for now we can say that it is comprised of 5 tracks, the majority of which are longer than 3 minutes, and it is the best material we have ever written. We're anxious for y'all to hear and hope as many folks as possible can come out to New Friends Fest to see us perform one last time.

RIP SOYBOMB

Absolutely gutted to hear the news of Soybomb HQ getting unexpectedly shut down. Collectively we have spent countless hours there watching bands, eating snacks and hanging out on the roof. We had the utmost privilege of recording our EP there as well as playing one of our best ever shows last spring/summer.

I can vividly recall my first show there (Beau Navire in June 2012). I remember walking home afterwards, right past the MMVA stage setting up on Queen, and thinking just how much more I rather watch screamo bands play on a thrashed up skate ramp. What made Soybomb so remarkable is that it was a house venue that transcended the limitations of what a house venue could be. The sheer amount of work, care and love that Jay et al put into Soybomb is staggering. The lighting, sound, space and ambiance rivaled and exceeded many of the city's more legit clubs, and only improved over time. They didn't have to put in that sort of continual effort but they did, and in doing so gave this incredible platform to the more niche GTA punk, metal, hardcore and noise bands, even though the "stage" was only inches off the floor. Looking back it's amazing the amount of local bands who played their first ever or last ever shows at Soybomb. It was a total DIY mecca: a place where you wanted to be when things were happening. Birthday shows, New years shows, Halloween shows, fests upon fests, some of you weirdos even recreated prom night just to experience it there. The bills were always 1-2 bands overlong and always ran 1-2 hours late, but it didn't matter, if anything that was the appeal. Outside of the usual suspects of the scene who seemed to play Soybomb every other month, all sorts of touring bands from Loma Prieta to Mount Eerie to Pile to G.L.O.S.S. to Full of Hell to FIDLAR and beyond flocked to Soybomb rather than a typical rock bar, because they knew the magic of the playing there and respected the ethos of its people. We're rooting for Jay and co. to bounce back because without Soybomb the music landscape of Toronto will have a crater-sized hole in it bigger than Siesta, Sheebs and Skramden combined.

2016 RETROSPECTIVE

Right off the bat a huge thanks to Paul, Mat and Vince, whose hard work made our new EP possible (Obligatory link: www.nanette.bandcamp.com/album/in-pectore). "In Pectore" in Latin translates literally to "in the heart" and figuratively to "in secret." Our hearts go out to y'all, and everyone else who has shared, reviewed and listened thus far.

Additional shouts out to all the incredible bands we’ve played with over the year, especially to all our pals across the GTA and Southern Ontario: Foxmoulder, Terry Green, Big Evil, Got Social, Shyy, Ray Dungeon, Huge Cosmic, Spacegirl, River Groves, Respire, Wimp City, Black Baron and anyone else who dropped new tunes this year that we didn't get a chance to play with.

Admittedly the creative engine of the band has gotten somewhat rusty as of late, for a variety reasons this year has been quite taxing on us. In spite of all the bullshit of 2016 we are collectively looking forward to gearing up in the coming year. New and exciting things are in the works including: In Pectore on cassette, possible touring, possible splits, a new release (featuring songs longer than 3 minutes), new shirts maybe? We'll see!! In Pectore

After many moons we are excited to finally announce our debut ep In Pectore (pr. in peck-tore-ay) which releases December 20. You can now pre-order the ep digitally via our Bandcamp page (nanette.bandcamp.com) and preview the song “Ichnofacies” (pr. ick-no-face-ease), a re-recorded version of the first track off our first demo. We have also updated our merch store with the companion demo compilation tape In Practice. A physical release of the ep is forthcoming as well.

In Practice

Tomorrow we play the legendary Toronto venue Soybomb for the first time ever with The Reptilian and our good pals Foxmoulder and Terry Green. Back in March we recorded some material with Soybomb’s Paul Mack along with Mat Keselman, who are now in process of mixing our new EP (while also building an awesome new studio called The MPL).

What we can announce so far: -We are aiming for an August release date -The EP will be 3 tracks at around 7 minutes -One track has been featured on a previous demo -We also re-recorded another oldie during our session which will be featured on a future split with some local bands

Last but not least we are also releasing a compilation of our first two demos, Living fossils//Low morale and Disempower, on one cassette which we are dubbing In Practice. This will be the first physical release of the songs on Disempower and tapes will be available at our upcoming shows and later on our bandcamp.
