“you and everyone else,” his voice was a whisper, eyebrows raising before continuing to add “UW is a good school. congrats to her - “ he paused, “and to you and sam.”
“It is indeed and I’ll be sure to tell her that. As for Sam, I’m sure you’ll have a chance to tell him yourself sooner than I would. Don’t you boys have like a private club where you have your men talks? Speaking bad of your ex wives and all?”
“Probably for the best, New York was scary enough as an adult I can’t imagine having to face it at eighteen…and I’m not just saying that because I want you to stick around. Okay, maybe part of me is, but the whole scary New York thing is true too. You remember how scary it can be, right?”
“Oh trust me, I remember how scary it could be. Part of me is relieved that she decided to stay but another part just wants the best for her and turning down a direct offer from Columbia...” She lets out a sigh, still running different scenarios in her head. “I don’t know, maybe it’s for the best she doesn’t have to deal with an Ivy League curriculum while raising a baby and maintaining a marriage.”
“Some would consider that to be another reason to leave.” She says playfully, landing a hand on Charlotte’s forearm. “How are things with you, Cooper and Mason?”
“Sorry NYU, you snooze you lose. In the meantime we get to keep you so not a bad trade off in my opinion.”
“I still don’t know if turning down both NYU and Columbia was such a good trade off but hey, I’m trying to let go of the control-freak mom role. Any advice on that?”
“Well, I’m glad you are staying. We need more wine nights together. I need Lucas to see other babies, the other mom groups don’t like me and thought I wrote my book for the preschool applications”
“We sure do, I’m going to need all the support I can get. Raising Betsey on my own is turning to be harder than I expected. I guess I underestimated Sam’s help with Maya after the divorce. Oh god, don’t get me started on those mom groups. They take on look at you and don’t stop with the judgy looks. Besides, preschool applications can be rough.”
“My apologies, I don’t think I’ve met a Maya recently, and certainly not one who would be deciding where she wants to go to college,” Cormac said, turning around when he heard someone’s voice, hoping that they didn’t think he’d been rude, but he didn’t know that he was being spoken to. “We haven’t met either, Dr. Cormac Hayes… a pleasure.”
“Oh god, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to dump my life all over you.” She gives a guilty smile and extended her hand to greet him. “Nice to meet you too, Dr. Hayes. I’m Dr. Naomi Bennett. Maya is my teenage daughter who turned down Columbia to stay home with her husband and daughter.” She is doing it again. “Aaand here I go again.”
╰ ❛ 💉 — › susan kelechi watson. cis female. she/her. . ╯ have you met naomi bennett yet ? this forty-three old zodiac has been living in the seattle area for ten years. she makes a living as a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist & OB/GYN, which is best suited for their trustworthy, easy going, self-deprecating, and defensive personality. song by artist is one of their favorite songs, and they’re written by angie strikes again.
naomi went to medical school at columbia with derek shepherd, addison montgomery, mark sloan and sam bennett.
she did ob/gyn residency in new york, taking a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility as it was her area of passion.
she dated sam during med school, getting married during residency and having a daughter - maya.
they moved to seattle after naomi completed her fellowship and the couple decided to open up a practice of their own - seattle grace wellness center.
sam asked for divorce but they remained partners of the practice until financial problems came up and addison bought the practice.
because of the practice, naomi kept the bennett surname. deep down, she was still hoping sam would change his mind and go back to her but it didn’t happen. while she has moved on and tried to make peace within herself, it’s still a sensitive subject and she regrets not changing it back to her maiden name.
at 15, maya got pregnant and naomi tried to force her to go for an abortion, against her own faith. it’s something that she is still coming to terms with. maya and her boyfriend got married and live on their own. naomi is now helping them to raise olivia, her granddaughter, so they can also focus on their college career.
naomi still works in the practice and has privileges in the hospital, going for consults when requested.
supposedly naomi was engaged to fife and moved to new york with maya but i’m changing it - basically maya decided to go to UW instead of columbia and naomi didn’t accept fife’s proposal, being the reason they broke up.
she has also adopted betsey, dell’s daughter, and lives near maya.
naomi is very devoted to god but she is going through a rough period with her faith, after trying to force her own daughter to have an abortion, something she is against.
