you both settled down on the floor, sitting cross-legged next to each other. the room was covered in a simple shade of purple, nothing too flashy. the warm studio lights illuminated the space around you, creating a peaceful and comforting ambiance.
that peaceful ambiance didn't last long. the producers hadn't even started rolling yet but it was already off to a bad start. you turned your head to your right to glance at ellie only to find her already looking at you. that made you quickly look away from her and burst out laughing. ellie's laugh then followed yours.
you've been close with each other ever since you worked together to the point that moments like this were considered completely normal.
behind the monitors, the crew were giving knowing glances at each other and both of them had no idea.
"hey, i'm ellie," she said, offering a small smile, voice low and casual just like how people expected it. "and i'm y/n," you added, softly waving at the camera with a bubbly smile spreading across your face. "today we're playing with kittens and answering questions."
to say you were excited and nervous at the same time would be an understatement. everything about this was new to you: your first time voice acting, your first motion capture performance, now your first ever buzzfeed feature. sure, you've done interviews before, but none of them could ever compare to one involving kittens. a mix of emotions settled in your chest, still processing this whole situation that you claimed as surreal.
"do either of you own any pets?" the producer asked before bringing the kittens out.
your eyes lit up at the question. "i have a cat," you immediately replied, a shy grin tugging at your lips.
ellie hesitated before answering, "i like walking up to stray cats, if that counts." you snorted and the room erupted with laughter.
"bring them in!" you exclaimed, already stretching out both of your arms with grabby hands, unable to hide your excitement.
the kittens were slowly brought in one by one. "oh shut the fuck up," ellie muttered, her eyes squeezed shut. you stared at the little gremlins in awe, covering your mouth with both hands. the cuteness aggression was slowly getting to you.
once all the kittens were set down, they scattered into different directions. one of them made its way towards you, and you gently scooped it into your arms.
"hey little one," you cooed, your voice immediately softening to a high pitched tone. you gently stroked the kitten's head with two fingers, absolutely enjoying every second.
while you were basically on cloud nine, ellie, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky. sure, she was lucky enough for most kittens to drift towards her, mostly because she didn't hesitate to scoop every single kitten that came her way.
however, they decided to give her a taste of her own medicine. one of them had gotten on the string of her hoodie, dangling from it. another one had managed to climb onto her shoulder, tiny paws getting dangerously close to the side of her neck, which was the only part where her skin was exposed above the collar of her hoodie.
ellie froze on the spot to not startle any of the kittens, a helpless look was found on her face. you noticed immediately and leaned over to help her, one hand carefully scooping the little culprit off her shoulder while your other hand continued to stroke the kitten that was curled up on your lap.
the producer gave you both a second before speaking up. "alright," they said, clapping their hands together with a smile, "let's begin."
WHAT WERE YOU FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF EACH OTHER?
you took a second to think before answering. "i remember being really nervous. terrified, actually." you let out a sheepish laugh before continuing, "everyone, especially ellie, seemed to know what they were doing, and all of this was completely new to me, so i had no idea what i was doing." another laugh escaped you as you finished your sentence.
ellie had been looking at you the whole time, quietly listening while absentmindedly scratching behind the ears of the kitten that was curled on her lap.
when it was her turn, she paused for a second before answering, "i mean..." a smile tugged at her lips. "she did ask a lot of questions," ellie scratched the back of her neck with one hand, the other one still petting the kitten on her lap, before continuing, "it was kind of obvious she was overthinking everything. she'd always ask "was that okay?" after every take."
you did a double take at that. "how do you remember that?" you asked, laughing as you covered your face with one hand. ellie shrugged, "kinda hard to forget when you ask the same question countless times."
WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE SCENES TO VOICE/PERFORM?
"i enjoyed performing the more quiet and emotional scenes," you smiled down at the two kittens you were holding before continuing, "especially the first emotional scene my character had. it also gave me the chance to really give my all despite being nervous."
ellie nodded in agreement before giving her own answer, "i really liked performing the action scenes," she laughed quietly. "of course you do," you muttered, trying to hide your laughter. ellie snorted at that. "it's a classic, i know. the motion capture was really fun. the fighting, the running around..." she shrugged. "i don't know. i genuinely had a great time."
"ohh yeah!" you nodded enthusiastically, snapping your fingers instantly, "those were really fun." a small smile spread across ellie's face at your reaction. "they were," she let out a quiet laugh. "really exhausting though." you nodded in agreement, "they were but i wasn't expecting to enjoy them so much."
the room erupted into laughter before the producer chimed in, "alright, let's move on!"
WHO BREAKS CHARACTER MORE?
you gently set the kitten down onto your lap. "ellie," you said, immediately pointing both hands at her without hesitation.
ellie immediately did a double take, offended at the immediate response, "you're lying." despite her trying to keep a neutral expression, the corners of her mouth twitched. "well..." she bit back a smile, scratching the back of her head.
"see? you're not even denying it," you exclaimed. ellie sighed, though a smile had already spread across her face.
"okay..." ellie began before continuing, "to be fair, most of the time i've broken character, it was because of you." now it was your turn to do a double take. "what did i do?"
"you'd just do the randomest shit at the worst possible times," ellie laughed quietly, shaking her head. "you'd say something, and i'd start cracking. then you'd crack even harder." she gestured between the both of you, "we're basically in the same boat."
ellie glanced back at the camera, still petting the kitten she'd scooped up earlier, "i thought i'd be a one-time thing but then it became... endless."
Y/N, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO IMITATE ELLIE'S VOICE?
the moment the producer had finished reading the question, you stared blankly at the camera for a second. then you burst out from laughter, completely caught off-guard from the sudden question.
ellie, on the other hand, was utterly baffled, "who came up with that question?" you shook your head, still laughing. you eventually managed to recover, looking back at the camera, "i like to think that i can," you paused before continuing, "but i won't demonstrate it because then it'd be obvious that i'm contradicting myself."
ellie snorted, "you're just saying that 'cause you know you can't do it." you stared at her for a second before turning back to the producer, "alright, next question please!"
the room erupted into laughter at your immediate response.
"proved my point," ellie muttered as she nudged you with her elbow, a teasing smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
