Pursuit of Jade | What are you doing here?
With yu qianqian's parenting, the chance of yu bao'er turning as crazy as his father regarding his love interest is less but never zero considering he promised the whole realm as betrothal gift to changning he definitely has the gene
finished the novel (but still have 2 eps left of the show lol). Some thoughts:
I was raised on the freak streets of AO3 and livejournal so a lot of the subtle "spicy" scenes had me going: 🤨🧐🫢
the last like 5-10 chapters lost me because it's a lot of info-dumping/name- dropping so I skipped around them
he's unhinged in the show, but xie zheng's unhinged in the novel my goodness
I think the back half of the show's principle crime is giving too much to the supporting cast. we didn't need the weird, circular yu qianqian x qi min stuff, most of the sui yuanqing stuff after the town massacre, or most of the li huai'an stuff
also confused as to why they merged the characters they did for li huai'an. they didn't mesh well because they have very different personalities in the book
incredible casting for everyone
I really love what the show did with the princess and gongsun yin
I NEED MORE OF THE ALTERNATIVE STORY WHERE THEY HAD WELL-ADJUSTED CHILDHOODS it's almost enough to get me to brush off my AO3 account again
enjoyed the novel, enjoyed the show!!!
if anyone has recs for practical/adjusted female lead x unhinged intense weirdo male lead, please please share them ty
There is something that keeps bugging me about the constant focus on Lin'an town in Pursuit of Jade and I've seen comments on it already but... it's like the writers actually hated that the female lead left her small town to become something greater. They kept forcing her backwards no matter how far she'd come.
She never seemed to fully accept that Xie Zheng was a general and a marquis, she only wanted him to be Yan Zheng again. And he agreed so I guess that's okay, but it was far more satisfying in the novel for Fan Changyu to say, "Oh, you're high status? Then I'll pull myself up to your level so we can be together" instead of dragging him down to hers.
Because the ending made no sense. What is the regent of a country doing slumming in Lin'an town? How are they both cosplaying poverty and commanding the army of the north? Those are full time jobs. Those require residence in either the capital or the military camp. You can't have both, but they do for whatever reason because all Fan Changyu actually wants is to be a village resident I guess and not a general. She just is both and nothing.
So I guess she was just forced to go to war against her will and we should actually be sad about it? Or not. Because she is all wealthy and famous but also down to earth? What are they even doing there?
I just had this image of where Xie Zheng and Fan Changyu are just Hannah Montana-ing it with their jobs now and while it's a hilarious sitcom idea, it's kind of impossible with the jobs they actually have...
XDDD
Xie Zheng is not the sort to run from Divorce. Xie Zheng would stab Divorce in the face.
I've been watching a Chinese show on Netflix, and they spent like, 18 episodes making you love this little community only to slaughter most of them in episodes 19 and 20.
There's even a scene where the busybody neighbour you've come to hate sacrifices herself to keep two little kids from being found by the bad guys.
Ouch, right in the feels.
Seriously, though, this series is ticking off all the boxes for me.
Period drama
Forbidden love
Secret identities
There Was Only One Bed
Cute kiddo secondary characters
Definitely Evil villain
Quirky (adult) sidekicks
Badass female protagonist
Malewife love interest
Assassins!
Morally grey secondary villain
One of the sidekicks died. And he was one of the cute ones. I'm rioting along with the female lead.
Xie Zheng's personal guards are so invested in his relationship.
I just really need his loyal men to have a jaw-dropping moment when they get to witness how strong Fan Changyu is... and then for them to be SUPER stoked about it.
Id also like for them to just take a moment of silence.
Then someone just whisper “oh. So thats his type. Yeah, the capital ladies can never.” And then they are all invested in making sure this marriage works.
She’s the only one for him!!! Also imagine their sons and daughters!!! What if they inherited her strength and his!!!
Also wasn’t there that scene where Gongsun Yin was like “She asked? The capital ladies lost because not one of them asked?”???
yu qianqian: WHY DID YOU KILL ALL THESE DOCTORS?!?!
qi min: no it's cool i just knocked them out! scared 'em a lil! otherwise they wouldn't do their best!
terrified doctors: *shaking, begging for forgiveness*
qi min: i'm learning to be a good boy! :)
qi min: hey why would you risk your life for that shitty little brat
yu qianqian: you mean OUR SON?!
qi min: we'll make lots of new ones after i take the throne, why get your panties in a twist over this one?
yu qianqian: WHY DID YOU KILL ALL THESE DOCTORS?!?!
qi min: no it's cool i just knocked them out! scared 'em a lil! otherwise they wouldn't do their best!
terrified doctors: *shaking, begging for forgiveness*
qi min: i'm learning to be a good boy! :)
PURSUIT OF JADE 逐玉 (2026)
'Special kind of stupid' is the definition of white supremacy.
it's been said but i'll say it again: top tier bit of this show is whenever changyu is being given the slightest offense and it pans to yan zheng VERY LOUDLY lefty-looseying the screws on his hinges in the background
Lefty-looseying unapologetically lifted and loaded into lexicon
Fan Changyu’s heart softened. She raised her hand to touch his face and said very seriously, “When I’ve saved enough ‘dowry’ for myself, I’ll marry you.”
The dowry she wanted was not money, of course, but what she had mentioned to him before – the confidence to walk alongside him.
Xie Zheng stared at her, “Good, I’ll wait for you. In this life, I’ll marry no one but you and you must not marry anyone else.”
Fan Changyu said with amusement, “I’ve only ever liked you in my entire life. If I don’t marry you, who else would I marry?”
These words left Xie Zheng stunned for a good while.
CC-ing the drama writers, maybe they can take lessons on how to write a mutual romance as opposed to a one-sided relationship.

Batman starting to suspect that Captain Marvel is actually a human teen, and using all of his knowledge as a father of seven to prove his theory.
Batman, in a room full of –supposedly– adult Superheroes:... the villains then destroyed the building and took three people hostage, which, if I may add, was just so... Skibidi.
Captain Marvel: *cringes*
Batman, eyes narrowing: ...Fortunately, they weren't standing on business. Superman and I were able to track them back to their hideout and rescue the hostages. No major aura losses. We slayed.
Captain Marvel: *cringes harder*
Batman, with the glint of victory in his eyes:... Guess you could say they couldn't handle our rizz maxxing.
Captain Marvel, covering his face in second hand embarrassment: dude...
*Later, in the cave*
Bruce: I have confirmation on Captain Marvel's identity being a human on the younger side, probably a teen or pre-teen.
Jason: How did you even confirmed that?
Batman: I talked Gen Z to him.
*Both Tim and Damian groaning*
Jason, blinking: You 'talked Gen Z to him'? The fuck does that mean?
Tim: Don't make him demonstrate...
Dick: He uses Gen Z slang. Kids hate it.
Jason: Are you serious? That's it?
Damian: Don't underestimate his tactic, Todd. It's... oddly effective.
Bruce, smiling: What can I say, I'm a sigma, I never take an L.
*everyone having a full-body cringe*
Jason: Holy shit, nevermind, I get it.
Bruce: W plan for real, chat
Jason: Okay, stop.
Bruce: Can't. I'm in my rizzler dad era.
Jason: I will skin myself with Damian's katana.
*Meanwhile*
Green Lantern: So.. Did anyone understand Spooky's report today?
Flash: Not a damn word.
Superman: I would like to clarify. I didn't slay anyone, I was very gentle.
Batman: Due to complaints about my meetings being too boring, I have come up with a solution you had better all enjoy.
Superman: Kinda sounded like a threat there, Bats.
Batman: It was.
*Batman unfolds a piece of paper*
Batman: And now it is the part of the meeting called silly tricks with Robin where Robin comes out to do a silly trick.
Twenty minutes later
Timbin: And is this your card?
Green Arrow: For the last time, no!
Tim: Ahh, my mistake. Perhaps if Mr Arrow would please check his wallet?
Green Arrow: ... Did you just swipe my fucking credit card?
Tim: Please, please, hold all applause for the end.
Tim: *Stuffs the credit card in his belt and wanders off*
Batman: And once again, that was Silly Tricks With Robin.
Green Arrow: I hate your entire family so goddamn much.
