can anybody explain why it makes me so uncomfortable to see role-reversal videos where men are “treated like women” in order to show how shitty sexual violence/harassment is?

Because it asks women to, once again, empathize with men; while never asking men to empathize with women, even while trying to make a statement about women’s issues. It allows MEN to be the central sympathetic figures and victims, and casts women as the villains in a story that purports to be about women’s issues.

It’s the same problem I have with videos that are like “what if homophobia happened to STRAIGHT PEOPLE?!!?!?!”

Hey, what if oppressors, like, I dunno, were able to empathize with the oppressed instead of co-opting our stories and our struggles? Like, are we SO DAMN DEHUMANIZED that our stories can’t even be about us to garner any kind of sympathy?

the only thing that makes a person homosexual is if an individual is sexually attracted, to other individuals of the same sex, exclusively. on the same token the only thing that makes a person bisexual is if they are sexually attracted, to both men and women. That. is. LITERALLY. it.

number two

the only way for you to know a person's sexuality, is if A) you are the person in question, or B) if the person in question comes out to you. anything else would be assumptions, based on speculation and suspicion which were more than likely formed because of stereotypes. it is NOT fact.

Truthfully, what would actually make more sense in any futuristic setting would be, a large percentage of multiracial/racially diverse, individuals. As for it being in space, people of color have already made it to space. So, been there done that.
