@narielstruth
I can’t stand… book culture. One time someone got me a canvas bag that was like “Books + Tea = Perfect Day” and I drove to goodwill with that shit so fast
Most books suck. Most books are goddamn awful or utterly extraneous. Don’t get me wrong, I think we’re deeply lucky to live in a world where most books can vanish without us losing anything culturally or intellectually, rather than a world where books are so scarce that a single person might own like twelve in a lifetime. But still. Books are easy to aestheticize as Magical Portals of Adventure and Whimsy if you only read maybe two genres
AH! Words for that whole… situation.
I work at a public library and book culture there is nauseating. Not really among the other employees (though we’ve had a few come through over the years), but the patrons?
Oh god the patrons. Most of the people who check out books are just regular people who like reading. I even have patrons who L O V E to read, and who spend a majority of their free time reading or discussing books, they’re part of multiple book clubs, they always bring a big bag and leave with it full. They aren’t the Book Culture People.
Book Culture People loudly announce that they’re so surprised that there are children who know what books are!
They act affronted when I mention our ebook service, and scoff at the idea that anyone could enjoy reading from a screen instead of off the page!
They are personally offended that publishers hire actors to read the books for audio versions, because they feel that “audio books cheapen the experience of reading” and “audio books are cheating”!
They have to proclaim their fetish for ‘real’ books, whether through tacky tote bags, weird quote filled pinterest boards and social media posts, or awkwardly shoehorning unimpressive humblebrags about all the classics that they’re reading into unrelated conversations with tired library assistants.
They’re terrible, and I resent them because I fear being grouped with them by the nature of my field.
I was literally just talking about a friend whose classmate in her library science program was bragging because she didn’t use any digital resources for her final paper because she “respected books too much.” It’s such a bizarre attitude for anyone, much less an aspiring librarian, to have
I’ve also been approached by people while I read in public who are like “Oh my GOSH it’s so GOOD to see other people who READ nowadays!! Honestly I just have NO hope for our generation” and it’s like, first of all if you’re a reader you should know the last thing anyone wants is to be interrupted by a stranger for unnecessary conversation, and second please shut up holy crap
Oh god, I’ve heard that one before.
Hating accessible books and shunning technology is basically the antithesis of modern librarianship.
I don’t get the ebook hate, ebooks are literally just books. You cite ebooks the same way, and depending on the format, you don’t even say they’re ebooks.
It’s a performative, self important approach to something that I genuinely enjoy, and I think it bothers me more than, say, fandom antics, just because it’s so much more common. People get offended when I tell them I don’t read a lot in my down time, that I genuinely prefer audio books, that I’ll skip their recommendations because I don’t share their tastes.
It’s so… boring.
“People don’t reeeeead nowadays, everyone spends all their time looking at their phoooooones”
My dude
The thing that they are looking at
Is words made of text
People who take an aspect of their lifestyle like reading (or being vegan, because Book Culture People are basically the That Vegan of reading) and turn it into an identity are compensating for something seriously lacking within themselves. And while I understand that many of them are maybe doing this as a result of some kind of emotional damage or pain, as much as I empathize, I also don’t have the patience to deal with that shit near me.
I was literally just talking about a friend whose classmate in her library science program was bragging because she didn’t use any digital resources for her final paper because she “respected books too much.” It’s such a bizarre attitude for anyone, much less an aspiring librarian, to have
This is so cringey, especially considering that way back in my first week of library school, our professor very pointedly said “If you’re only here because you love books you’re signing up for the wrong profession.”
Hey everyone!! You guys I am SO so excited to share this! It’s a short comic I worked on a while back, and now that I have a bit more free time, I’d love to create a whole series of them! I got so tired of superheroes being all gritty and straight, I decided to create my own, and they are happy, and there is fluff, and no one dies, ever.
✨ If you like this, please reblog, I want to see if people would be interested in seeing more of this! ✨

Studio Ghibli’s animation software will be made available via open source this month.
That’s right…💯% free.
Read more on CartoonBrew.com
This is a BIG DEAL, folks.
Animation software is, by and large, very expensive and out of the range of most people seeking to get into animation. As of March 26th, this software will become open source and available to all prospective animators!
Spread the word!
Here’s a direct link to the Toonz website.
The Toonz website doesn’t actually contain the link to the program. You can find it here. The program that is free is called “OpenToonz”! There are many learning materials on youtube and forums that can help you get started, just be sure to include OpenToonz and not just ‘Toonz’ in the search as im sure the interfaces are different.
lets make a videogame how hard can it be
nevermind you have to know shit about computers
hey!! sorry to hijack this post, but there are a bunch of ways you can make videogames without knowing shit about computers!!
for starters, there’s Twine, which is fucking great for making all kinds of interactive experiences (it’s what Crystal Warrior Ke$ha was made in so you KNOW it’s good) at all skill levels (i picked it up and made a game in two minutes a few nights ago)
if you want a bit more involved experience there’s Inform 7 which is a simple language for text-based adventure games that reads like slightly-weird English and also relatively easy to learn
you can do some pretty fucking cool stuff with Unity (my personal engine of choice) but you may need to dig a bit farther to get at the good stuff. there’s lots of really good presets though (i made an entire game just mixing and matching pre-existing templates and adding in my own art, won an award at a game jam for that one) and if you want help the community’s pretty dang friendly from what i’ve seen!
this is just a taste of what’s out there from what i’ve seen, but there’s so many cool resources out there. if anyone wants help getting started, i’m around to give you a leg up on making something in the coolest, most unexplored art medium around!
I’m addin’ to this post because lowering the barrier to entry for making games is super important to me!!!! If y’all have any questions about making games, you’re welcome to come and ask! I made this list a while back with some friends, so it has some of the programs John already mentioned.

@slimetony how does it feel to have your shitpost be turned into a helpful resource
It feels like a betrayal of every tenant of humor I subscribe to. Helping people is an alien concept to me. It makes me upset.

a dragonite I painted like half a year ago
So I got blood drawn today, and left a note for myself last night to remember to fast.
It was much more confusing at 5AM than it was the night before.
….as a person who works in a medical lab, my initial reaction to that sign was ‘This coffee pot is for use with blood only’
We have refrigerators that literally have signs on them that says ‘NO FOOD - BLOOD’ and ‘NO FOOD - SPECIMENS ONLY’ on them.
Same! and then I was confused as to the why of using a coffee pot for blood storage/processing lol
Here is the opposite

i’m so in love with this bath bomb 😍
I had a server tell me about how he was harassed into going to a church baptism ceremony by a not so close friend and to get them off his back he agreed
He decided some time before that of he was going to be forced to do this her might as well have fun with it right? So he goes to lush and buys one of the black bath bombs, and cuts it in half.
Now fast forward to the day of and he is wearing a small harness under his shirt that is keeping both haves of the bath bomb one either shoulder blade.
He volunteers to get baptised
They take him up put him in the white robe and then he waits for his turn. Now the friend who invited him had no clue what he is doing. They are pleasantly surprised to see him participating.
Honestly. A mistake on their part.
I only knew this guy for a max of 45 minutes and I could already tell this dude was a chaos entity.
So his turn comes up and they go to dunk him and the water immediately starts to foam and turn black and he starts screaming like a banchee jumps out the water and hisses at the priest
Everyone fucking lost it and her was banned from ever attending that church again.
So yeah all in all seems like a great thing to do for a hilarious story
Legend
ok so the other day i was at sears. I was in the baby section. Im standing there looking at clothes and a lady who works there comes up and is like “oh are you expecting?” And i was like “uhhhh” and because im a dumbass i was like “no i already delivered.” And she was like “How long ago?” And i was just like “two weeks.” And she said “wow! You look great! When i had my first son, i looked like a mess for six months. Is it a boy or a girl?” And i was just awkwardly like “a girl….” And she asked her name and i said Chernobyl and she was like “oh what a cute name! It sounds really familiar.” And i honestly just stood there going through all that and pretending i had a human baby two weeks ago named Chernobyl because i didnt wanna tell this poor lady i was buying baby clothes for my fucking baby opossum
every time i see this text post i forget the ending and every single time it decimates me
