“I only have a cleric costume, dummy!  I can’t heal whatever’s wrong with you mentally!  And you don’t look physically scuffed...So!!”

“Alright, then? If you can show me, I’d like to see.”

“Oh, sure!  If you can show me how to get to the sky islands, I can show you!...Though you may want to get in a fist fight.”

“I… don’t think that’s how that works? Its just clothes…” But hey, what did he know?

“Well I’ll just have to prove to you that that’s how MY clothes work!”  All she’s got is her cleric garb though...

“Um, well, I suppose that’s fair.

Kids, man… too harsh. “Th-That’s… I mean, my abilities have been capped off for the most part, but I still have some of my monsters! And there’s those sky islands, things are normal there…”

“...I wonder if I dressed like you on the sky islands...If I could gain the powers of a summon spirit...”  Much to wonder...

“Uh…. why are you so intent on making a pact, anyways?”

“I was just thinking of how cool it’d be if I did something that remarkable on my own ♥.”

Though, realization struck.

“...You’re probably useless as you stand now though.”  Teenagers are too blunt...

“Oh, sure! What is it?”

“Form a pact with me.”

“Whoa… that’s pretty weird. When I went back, it didn’t feel quite that fast.” But then again, he’d also died for a sec there, so it wasn’t exactly the best comparison.

“Well, hey, now that I’ve got you here, you mind if I ask you a question?”

“This place is strange like that. Did you come and go for a bit?”

“It was so fast I don’t even know!!”  Boundless energy...!  Teenagers!  “It was like I was boarding the wrong terminal and got all turned around and boom!  Here I am again.”

“I bet I could dual with two swords if I dressed up as a dual swordsman...”  A thought...  “What does one look like, though, I wonder...”

“…Norn?” That name was unfamiliar- and yet… for some reason, familiar. So, if she was a tree spirit, then… was that the name of the other tree spirit? “Is that… the spirit of Derris Kharlan’s tree?”

This was a lot of information to take in, enough that he missed the wink from Kruelle. Not that he would’ve been likely to register it in the moment anyways, mind still reeling from thoughts of the other tree spirit.

“O-Oh, uh… yeah. Okay.”

(I’m not that kind of tree…)

“Uh...Yeah...Guess so....”  The subject didn’t stay on Derris Kharlan for long which was good.  Ratatosk seemed too set on the strange interaction as a whole to focus on anything further than that.

“When thou is ready to make a pact with thine!  Thou knoweth where to find me!”  Was that how Klaus talked to the summon spirits?  She sure did hope so...It felt foolish.

“I’m the summon spirit of the giant Kharlan tree, and the lord of monsters.” Well, that explained that. This kid… was she just running around talking to any summon spirits she could or something? And for that matter, how’d she catch Undine in a bad day? He didn’t remember her being particularly prickly… no, the cold one was Celcius. Hah.

“I don’t do pacts anymore, kid. Not in the mood for it.” He huffed, crossing his arms. He couldn’t exactly blame her for being excited about the idea, but… some kid he’d just met? Even if her companion felt familiar, he wasn’t about to just hand his trust out like that. “And I don’t do things like that. If a summoner can prove their worth, I give ‘em my pact symbol. But I don’t feel like it, so no pact.”

“Well, that’s okay then!”  No sweat off Mel’s nose.  “Norn might get jealous anyway.  I mean, it’s because of Norn I have sweet sweet powers of copycat!  So, I’ve technically got a pact with a tree summon spirit anyway.”

Kruelle winked at Ratatosk, though, it was easy to miss.

“Just stay hydrated, okay?”

…No one he knew, then. But he was starting to get the feeling that this was not the case for her…

Seeing as her companion decided to speak in her stead, that was whom he addressed. …Or, at least that’s what he thought it was doing. He couldn’t speak the language of monsters, but thousands of years of a Protozoan being his best friend gave him a pretty good idea of the general gestures.

“Kratos.” Was all he stated of his name.

“I’m not interested in harming you, but I can’t quite understand why you would think that. As far as I’m aware, I’ve never met you or Kruelle.”

Or if he had, it was so long ago that he didn’t remember.

“Where are you from?”

“Well, Mr.Kratos!”  She was right, it was the last person she wanted to run into, “I’ll have you know ending up here was not my intention!  And I intend to still fix and atone for what I’d done on Derris Kharlan!”  While putting on a brave face might’ve been what made sense in the moment.

The moment her adrenaline wore off, she stared back at the man...And began to dart past him with a blank expression.

And if there was anything more that could’ve thrown him, it would be that. Of all the things- was this kid even able to make a pact?! Well, she couldn’t’ve been that much younger than Mithos had been, but she was a human.

“Nope.”

(‘You could be a little gentler about it. She’s only a kid.’)

(She probably doesn’t even know who we are.)

(‘Still, you don’t have to be rude..’)

Hand on his hip, Ratatosk looked over the kid. She was… definitely a weirdo. Absolutely without a doubt a weird little kid… but maybe he was being a bit harsh. “I don’t really do that these days, sorry kid.”

“Awh, no pact?  What kind of summon spirit are you anyway?”  She looked him up and down, “Well, at least you’re not like Undine, she seemed reaaal cranky.  Efreet’s a nice enough guy.”

“...”

“Oh!  I know!  You want to fight me for the right of the pact!”  A pause, Klaus wasn’t here...  “...Eh...What kind of summon ring do you use exactly?”
