His name was Daichi Kato, young, stupid, and so close to marrying a woman his parents matched him with. He had no say in this matter, coming from a well known and respected family in Japan, he had to lead a specific lifestyle. From the time he was born until his death, his entire life was planned out. This included who he was to marry and the family they were to start. It should’ve been perfect, no faults, no nothing. Until he met her. Beautiful and strong, she walked into his family’s dojo with a fire in her eyes and perfectly chopped hair-- he was smitten. And easily defeated by this beauty who challenged him right away. It was the first time that Daichi ever felt, well, emotions for another.
The two clicked too. Captivated by the others strength, tied down by their similar personalities, hearts welled because they clicked. Daichi was close to calling off his current engagement and marrying this woman, believing that she was the one. That they were meant to be. Until she told him that she was a Goddess. Athena, to be specific, a Greek Goddess who traveled far to Japan. She told him that the two could never be together and that she appreciated that he loved her. It was there that she made an offer, that while the two could not be romantically together by mortal standards, they could share another bond. A child. A reminder of their bond. He took to it easily.
His name is Narumi Kato, he’s the first son and second child of the Kato family. The only boy out of five children, quiet, serious, and the bastard. It’s no secret that he’s the odd one out, all of his sisters know, even his father’s wife knows, Narumi knows. His father tells him, all of them, that Narumi is different. That his mother is a Greek Goddess, her name is Athena, and that years ago, Daichi fell in love with her. It sounded strange, hearing ones father say this and Narumi almost doesn’t believe him. But it felt right, that he’s the son of another woman.
He’s the glitch in the system, the one thing that messed up this perfectly family. But no one really told him that he was a “mistake”. His father treated him normally and the older man’s wife took care of Narumi as if he was her own. His younger sisters all looked up to him with admiration, it was just Her. His older sister and the one he shared a birthday with, Ai. Always watching and judging, she paid close attention to Narumi’s every move. Maybe out of everyone, he had to prove himself to her and try to gain his older sister’s approval.
The first step to gaining her approval and just to believe in himself was to turn to kendo. It was custom that all Kato children learned the art form and excel in it. Narumi wants to prove that he’s a Kato and can do this, that it’s all his talent and effort and not his mother’s. It comes to him naturally, of course it does, but he’s still not as good as Ai. He’s close, just not there. She’s better than him and she’s not even a demigod.
And that kills him.
He feels worthless, insecure, not good enough-- all because he compares to himself so someone who will always see him as the family’s mistake. That’s who he is and it’ll always follow him no matter what.
His teenage years are quiet. He trains alongside his father and Ai, he attends a normal high school with normal teenagers, and he takes part in both the archery and kendo clubs. He continues the same lifestyle into adulthood. Until he hears of Nemean Lion. A place for demigods all over, making themselves public for the first time in years. Just like his father’s life, seeing the organization is a glitch in Narumi’s almost perfect life. He was supposed to continue with college and help Ai with running family’s dojo, then marry someone from a high status family. That was the life set out for Narumi Kato. But Narumi was a glitch in the system as well and as a glitch, he could do what he wanted.
So he took to NL, bringing it to light to his entire family and his desire to go there. His father and step-mother allows it, his sisters tear up, and Ai tells him goodbye. A month later he’s off to California with his suitcases rolling behind him and his sword safely tucked away in its bag. It’s new city, hell, a new country. He’s terrified but there’s a hint of excitement that gleams in his eyes. It’s here that he promises to prove himself worthy enough to be the son of Athena and a Kato.
Like Ye-Jin, Narumi usually communicates with everyone using Greek. His English is okay but he’s not entirely comfortable with using it.
He does carry a sword with him at all times but it’s kept inside of its bag. Said sword is named Inazuma and he’s best friends with Juniper.
Narumi knows Japanese, Greek, and bits of English.
