Ibn Qudaamah رحمه الله from the Hanbali School of fiqh said in Ash-Sharh Al-Kabeer:
“It is more appropriate to marry only one wife. The author of Al-Muharrar [i.e. Abul Barakaat Al-Majd ibn Taymiyyah] said this, based on the saying of Allaah (which means) {…But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one}.”
