On Sunday, women on Twitter had a message for men: #NoWomanEver has fallen in love with her catcaller, harasser or stalker. The sarcastic tweets expose how pervasive and invasive misogyny is to women’s everyday lives. After going through the hashtag on Sunday, some men began to realize and tweet their complicity in this.
Hundreds of protesters from three tribes and their allies stopped construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline for the second day in a row Wednesday, but law enforcement and private security are now preparing to amp up their presence. Morton County deployed police, highway patrol and G4S personnel to dispel the gathering, reportedly bringing tear gas because of rumors that the protests were violent.
The $3.8 billion-project will funnel 500,000 barrels of crude per day from North Dakota to Illinois later this year. Members of the Sioux tribe have argued the pipeline will pollute drinking water as it crosses the Missouri and Little Missouri rivers and will disturb sacred sites.
The rivers are a water source for thousands of residents from the reservation and millions more downstream.

Many of the protesters have broadcast their messages on social media in an open call to other tribes to join in. “It’s in our history. We don’t wanna give them an inch. We don’t wanna give them a mile.”

Yeah, this needs to be said. Matt Damon, you’re talented, but you need to take a seat.... you have enough money to turn down a role and that’s what should’ve happened. Favorite Part: “And I might be wrong, I mean I might be wrong and there mighta been hella Europeans in China in 220 B.C.... but fucking doubt it. Super doubt it.”
So, about two weeks after I made my initial healthy eating post I had a catastrophic setback. Basically a cheat meal turned into a cheat day turned into a cheat weekend, which turned into me just dropping the healthy eating completely. I was on a binge eating spree and then just an “I won’t stuff myself, but I don’t care either” phase.
Anyways, I am very proud to say that I am back on track! My BMI has officially dropped from the overweight range to the normal weight range!! I am now at 24.8, which is like right on the cusp. I’m trying to get down to around 21, which would mean losing another 20lbs.... I’ve been eating healthy for 2 1/2 weeks now and I’m down 10lbs. I went on a mini vacation over the 4th and ate out a lot, but I also did a lot of walking and tried to be aware of my serving sizes. I’m still doing low-carb, but to minimize my chances of binge eating I’ve become less strict about it. Now, I’m trying to avoids bread and pasta, but I’m allowing myself cottage cheese and yogurt for breakfast and fruit when I feel like it. It’s definitely made it wayyyyy easier for me to resist cravings, and if I do slip up I don’t find myself shoveling as many carbs I can get ahold of down my face. So that’s nice. I’m doing moderate exercise - just walking - because I’m only eating about 1,200-1,300 calories a day. I’m also paying attention to my water intake! That has made a huge difference. When I’m full of water, I’m not hungry and I feel better. I was having a lot of trouble drinking water at work - I don’t like going to the water fountain nonstop - so I brought a plastic water bottle in and I refill it a few times a day as I drink water. I’ve cut out all alcohol except wine, which I only have a few glasses of a week.
Yeah, that’s probably what I look like drinking my wine haha... it’s usually my only “indulgence” for the day. My next goal is to cut down on my coffee intake. I take my coffee with a cream and sugar, and I’m trying to cut out refined sugar completely so it’s going to be a big step for me. I’m going to try and switch to green tea.... I don’t really like tea and I need lots and lots of caffeine to function at work, so wish me luck!
I think the biggest things I can recommend so far are:
-Don’t be too restrictive! Now that I’ve eased up on myself I feel much less likely to binge. Even when I was on vacation and indulged in hamburgers and whatnot, I wasn’t stuffing myself as fast as I could because I feel satisfied with my “diet”/improved way of eating.
-Pay attention to your water intake. Everybody says that, and I knew that I should be doing that, but I still didn’t make an effort to drink at least 8 cups a day. At every point in my life when I’ve tried to get healthy or lose weight, I haven’t made a real effort to make sure I’m drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. If there’s anyone else like me doing that and trying to lose weight, then try drinking more water. Seriously, I was drinking three cups a day (how I’m still alive, I’m not sure) and always feeling hungry and tired and grouchy. Now I drink eight cups a day and my mind feels clearer, I’m sleeping better, and I don’t get the between-meals munchies.
-If you slip up, don’t do what I did and have a “cheat day.” Instead, that’s your cheat meal, but the rest of the day needs to be solid. If you do this, then you will probably stay at the same weight. You won’t necessarily lose weight, but you won’t gain back weight you’ve already lost. It’s made a huge difference for me getting out of that mindset of “oh well, I already ate bad today so I might as well eat this cheesecake too and get some Mickey D’s for dinner tonight.” Before you know it, that cheat day turns into two days and then into a week. If you slip up, that’s fine, it happens, but try to eat healthy the rest of the day - you won’t derail your weight loss and you won’t feel guilty.
-Eat a vegetable with every meal, including breakfast. Veggies are so good for you, they’re very filling, and they have like no calories (unless you load them up with stuff). I’ve started eating asparagus with my eggs, or having a spinach and mushroom frittata, and it’s making all the difference in the world! Try eating a veggie at each meal and see what you think.
