Analysis of PSA: “The Candy Shop”

This is a trailer advertising a short film that was produced by a group in Georgia that calls themselves White Stone Motion Pictures. It may not be classified as a PSA exactly, but I think it includes essential elements found in a PSA and it is about an extremely important issue. This PSA raises awareness about the issue of human sex-trafficking. According to the film directors, “Atlanta is the number one place in the country for the sex-trafficking of minors”. To raise awareness about this problem and encourage people of all ages to get involved they take a very serious approach. This PSA is troubling; it accurately reflects how people should feel about the issue of sex-trafficking and why they should get involved to bring it to a stop.

What to do...

I love our country. A place where we are free to (and encouraged to) express our opinions and ideas openly. As for the situation in Syria though, I have no clue where to begin. While I believe that no politician can be fully trusted, I’m thankful for elected members with the task of making difficult decisions such as what to do about Syria.

            I’ve read countless articles about the alleged use of chemical weapons and the inhumanity practiced by Syrian government against their own people. It is sad, disheartening and obviously corrupt. But is it really the role of the United States military to interject? It is no doubt to me that something should be done to stop this injustice. But who should act?

            From my understanding, it is the responsibility of the United Nations. I think that the United States should urge the United Nations as a whole to take military action on Syrian government.

            Since this hasn’t been accomplished though, we are clearly left in a difficult position. Do we take the police of the world role and launch an attack on the Syrian government possibly aiding terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda? Or do we simply sit back and watch as a government openly commits war crimes and possibly gains confidence in practicing these crimes against whomever they please?

            I would assume that every member of congress is going to fall asleep tonight pondering questions such as these.
