Resolved Artwork CTS 2017 (Semester 1)
Reference artist: Mimi Tong. Tong uses installations and images to create his work and also has a focus on the effects mankind has on nature
Reference artist: John Cattapan. I focused on how he incorporates aspects of nature and of mankind. This is seen through the landscape green colour palate and the figures and geometric lines
Here is my trial, the geometric shape of the wood represents the buildings (man made) and the sand represents the beach (nature) this was successful
Using material and pva glue I covered wood panels, then added the sand on top
Using the two colours of sand I attempted to make an image. This didn't work as detail was almost impossible and rather ended in a bit of a mess
Black sand and sand that I collected from the location
Using the black sand and PVA glue to draw the silhouette of the buildings. This worked however came out very patchy
And more...
More photos
While visiting the location, I took photos which I then photoshopped. I purchased black sand and incorporated it into the photos. Using the material to create meaning is something I am trying to explore. Using sand captures the aesthetic of the location and translates this idea to the viewer.
Sketches of different locations
Artists I looked at - chosen to do 'drawing out' location based work
Idea generation- six week project
