I had to watch a video where someone read the scene from SF where Cassian told Nesta that everyone hates her. The point was that Nesta provoked Cassian into saying this, and Cassian just matched her energy, so they were both in the wrong.
I especially liked the: They read between the lines but don't read the actual words on the page
And you see, I would have agreed with this take if it weren't for two factors. And both resume to a fucked up, unequal power dynamic.
1) Nesta clearly says she doesn't want to train, and Cassian, instead of trying to talk openly with her, offering her alternatives, or giving her more time to adapt, threatens her with exile and acts as Rhysand's enforcer rather than Nesta's person. Quick reminder that only three days have passed, yet he has zero empathy for the person who is in his care. As he had zero empathy when she fell down the stairs and he doesn't even check on her.
Nesta was mean, who wouldn't be in such conditions?
2) As I mentioned, she's supposedly in his care. Cassian, for who knows what reason (Rhys being a sick matchmaker is the reason), is her caretaker. They're in an unequal power dynamic; he's supposed to be wiser, he's not supposed to fall at the provocation of an alcoholic in rehab (which is the common opinion of all people defending the intervention in the first place). And he said that everyone hates her instead of reinforcing the idea that it's done for her good. If his patience is that thin, he shouldn't be the one caring for Nesta!
And if we are on the subject of why people are holding Cassian responsible for these words, it's not because people saw this scene and decided to nitpick just to find a reason to hate him. It's part of a systematic observation of how he sees Nesta. For example, he never said "Ily" but had no problem saying "your sisters love you, I don't know why"; "everyone hates you"; "I didn't choose to be shackled to you"; "Nesta would thrive at CoN-he winced at the insult and the truth".
So no, my problem isn't Cassian defending Rhysand, my problem is he lacks empathy and patience. It's not between the lines, it's black on white on the pages of SF, which I had to read with my eyes and process with my brain and what I processed made my soul hate the SF Nessian.
You can’t tell me that Nesta stays with Cassian because she actually loves him. She is still stuck in the mindset that she doesn’t deserve love or happiness and believes that overgrown bat is her punishment.

Harry wakes with a pounding headache in a darkened, unfamiliar bedroom. It takes a moment to orient himself, his limbs tangled in the sheets and a pillow somewhere near his feet. Worse, he’s half-naked, with his shirt and trousers nowhere to be found. He gropes about blindly across the bed, but there’s no one else in it at present, and neither his glasses nor wand are within reach.
At first, he thinks it’s a one-night stand after having had too much to drink at the Weasleys Wizard Wheezes’ annual holiday party. But when he looks in the mirror, he realizes that he is in someone else’s body. Specifically, that of Tom Riddle, the rising political star who’s the face of the pureblood supremacist Magic First movement. And, does this mean that Tom Riddle is in HIS body!???

i started the marvelous mrs maisel because a while ago my twitter timeline was full of this scene where this man says to this woman “you are more important than god” so i started it thinking that it would be a nice romcom where this man and that woman would came together at one point. but, unfortunately, i had 0 idea that these two people had only 1 hour and 30 minutes of screentime throughout the whole series that has 5 seasons, 44 episodes and where every episode is 45+ minutes long…. they had so much chemistry together it drove me nuts, they needed to be together and i was there hoping that they would be the endgame
when i finished the whole series i couldn’t believe how it ended between the two of them that i had to take a 45 minute walk and eat chinese food to calm myself
So, it's a quarter to 2 in the morning and I just finished the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It was FANTASTIC. A show hasn't gripped me like this in ages. Honestly, no media of any form has for quite a while. I loved it. Can't reccomend it enough. But, I'm not going to lie. It hurt me too. I don't think Lenny Bruce was ever intended as a love interest for Midge, but clearly their pure CHEMISTRY changed people's minds. I loved them so much. They were doomed from the start and it breaks my heart. The scarcity of Lenny's appearances makes them all the more precious. The last scenes we got of him in season 5 BROKE my heart. Both of them. (Sidebar, I loved Jess in Gilmore Girls and stopped watching after season four, I sort of lost interest, partly bc I got spoiled Jess and Rory weren't ending up together. You notice a pattern? I'm noticing a pattern). Ugh. WHY???? I mean, it made perfect sense, it just hurt me while making perfect sense so I don't like it. Gah, logic sucks. If this is incoherent...well, it 2 in the morning. I just came here to rant and say I want my Lenny and Midge, dammit. Also, justice for Benjamin pls and thank u.
Nesta gets a rep for being a "little shit" in the cabin, but yet so was Feyre.
What kind of person drags an animal carcass across the house and dumps it on the kitchen table? I grew up in a huge hunting community, and no hunter would ever dare to do that shit because their wives would fillet them alive. Dead animals are taken elsewhere to be skinned before the wives cook them up.
Antis will also hate Nesta for getting on Feyre for dragging mud through the house, but Nesta is just behaving like every housewife: you do not drag dirt and mud and dead animals through a clean house. Period. That's common sense and human decency, which Feyre has none of. No mother/homemaker allows kids, spouses, or anyone else to come trapezing through the house if they're dirty. The Nesta hate is so ridiculously forced.
This moment does prove, though, that Feyre didn't do the household labor like cleaning because no one who does the work is going to display that level of disrespect. Nesta had probably just finished cleaning when her sister dragged blood and mud all throughout the house. And Feyre said that Nesta made people's lives difficult. Someone needs to hand Feyre a mirror. Thanks to her, Nesta had to cook dinner and re-clean the house before they could eat.
And Feyre has the nerve to call Nesta nasty. Nesta was tame compared to how any hunter's wife/homemaker would have reacted. It's amazing how Feyre has been a nasty-ass bitch to Nesta all series long, yet she always plays the victim. It's amazing how every single time Feyre hates on Nesta, she's really hating herself but her ego's too large to allow for self-reflection for Feyre to notice that she really hates herself.
Mor's supposed to be the one who gifts her love freely to everyone, yet she's over 500-years-old and only has, like, six friends and they're all elite one percenters who rule their respective courts.
Meanwhile, Nesta's supposed to be the toxic, cruel, abusive bitch who very few people like, yet she's only 25-years-old and has always been surrounded by friends before poverty, during poverty, and after poverty. Even during her year and a half of depression, she was hanging out with a group of people every night and getting at least one male (sometimes two) to go home with her. Now she has Gwyn and Emerie, Cass and Az, the Valkyries and the other priestesses, Eris and Helion (who may not be exactly Nesta's friends, but I have no doubt would be Team Nesta if it came to it), Bryce, Ember, and Randall.
Mor's spent months trying to get Vallahan to agree to the new treaty, yet Nesta befriended/saved/made an alliance with a whole other world in about two weeks.
I think Mor's just vicious and nasty to Nesta because she's jealous of her... but that's just my take.
The IC's double standard when it comes to their treatment of Elain and Nesta is appalling.
When Elain was first brought to the Night Court, the IC made it a point to make sure that Lucien kept his distance from her without Elain even asking for personal space. She had just been traumatized, after all, and needed time to heal and adjust alone, without Lucien hovering, so the IC made sure to somewhat track Lucien's movements to make sure he respected Elain's privacy and boundaries.
But when Nesta was first brought to the Night Court, she asked to be left alone, and Cassian repeatedly violated her boundaries, and the IC did nothing. Not once has Cassian ever respected Nesta's privacy or her boundaries (not even at the end of ACOSF). Yet the IC has never enforced upon Cassian the same boundaries they forced upon Lucien. And let's not forget that Nesta spent her entire childhood being sexually abused/groomed, then she was sexually assaulted by Tomas, then she was almost sexually assaulted by Cassian, then she was violated in the Cauldron, then Cassian repeatedly violated her boundaries, then Mor violated Nesta's personal space and bodily autonomy...but yet Nesta's the toxic bitch and they're her victims?
Feyre told Lucien to give Elain space because she wouldn't be ready for a relationship yet, while simultaneously acting like Nesta's a nasty-ass bitch for not being ready to jump into a relationship with Cassian even though both sisters were just abducted, tortured, violated, killed, and turned High Fae against their will.
Even when it comes to Elain and Nesta having similar behaviors during Winter Solstice, Cassian gave two very different responses. When Elain sat quietly and politely, albeit sullenly, Cassian painted it as, "Oh, Elain's just uncomfortable around Lucien." But when Nesta sat quietly and politely, albeit sullenly, Cassian stormed out after her, stalked her, harassed her, refused to leave her alone even though she asked multiple times, and was incredibly hurtful and cruel because apparently Nesta sitting quietly and politely makes her a toxic, abusive bitch.
But Nesta's the problem because she makes their lives miserable. Ah, huh. Even if Nesta does hurt their feelings, they all hurt hers, too. They just don't care when they're being toxic, cruel, abusive, or rude to Nesta but think it's the end of the world when she doesn't bend over backward and take their mistreatment. That's one of my big issues with ACOSF: Nesta apologizes for hurting them but not a single member of the IC ever apologized for hurting her, which is why we still see them mistreating her in HOFAS. I really hope we get Gwyn, Emerie, Elain, Lucien, and Eris handing the IC their hypocritical asses.
Nesta was quiet for a heartbeat, then acknowledged, "My mother was even worse to Feyre - and my sister has turned out to be..." She searched for the word. "A perfect mother."
Please don't tell me that SJM is ignorant enough to believe that Feyre being ignored by Mama Archeron is worse than their mother planning to sell twelve-year-old Nesta into an advantageous marriage to be used for her breeding potential? On top of that, Mama Archeron oversaw Nesta's dancing lessons in which she was being beat and verbally abused, which would make their mother either directly involved in or complicit in Nesta's physical and verbal abuse.
Nesta's childhood was so much worse than Feyre's, and even then, Nesta has not done anything as horrible as Feyre, yet Nesta can never be written to be the victim. Feyre had it good compared to Nesta, yet she's brought so much destruction and suffering to Prythian, yet Feyre is always written as the victim.
were lucius and rodolphus friends in It Runs when they were both Death Eaters? I know they're family through the Black sisters, and have to see each other a lot, but Lucius seems to hold a lot of disdain for Rodolphus in the post-war chapters, and is much more at ease with the Lestranges being in Azkaban than Sirius is. So were they just co-workers and in-laws, or were they truly friends (in the way that Lucius and Sirius seem to become friends after the war)?
No, they were never friends. Friendly, maybe, because of the family connections, cordial and polite (most of the time) because they share similar greater goals, but individually they are very different men, with different ideas about how to accomplish said goals.
There was also a small issue of competition between them (before V died in first war) where both gave V conflicting advice on several matters, and would get mad (Rodolphus) or slightly offended (Lucius) when Voldemort would pick the other's option.
They did get along, for the most part, but Rodolphus is a soldier, a far more violent man, with bloody (literally) solutions, while Lucius is a politician that prefers lies and bribes to outright violence if there's an option.
Rodolphus also (in his mind) thinks he's doing all this in favour of their world, and for the betterment of magical UK; Lucius has no such delusions, he knows he's doing this for his own (and his family's) personal gain and glory. Rodolphus always thought Lucius is a selfish, dishonourable coward, while Lucius always thought Rodolphus is a violent, deranged murderer.
However, both knew the other is vital in the war, and that they are both needed, with their different skill sets, so they always maintained a civil relationship, and when war-talk was off the table and they were forced together by their wives for social events, they could always find things they both enjoy and engage in that sort of easy talk.
With Voldemort dead, Lucius truly did wish Rodolphus would just flee the country, but when he refused, Lucius was ...not relieved, necessarily, but not that upset that now Rodolphus is locked up- it was better that way, for Lucius, because if Rodolphus was free, he'd bring Voldemort back, chaos back, and Lucius now had a son, and was growing to enjoy raising his son in peace, with no war to disrupt them.
People like to say that the IC are justified in their mistreatment of Nesta because of how she treated Feyre, but how do people think Gwyn and Emerie are going to react to seeing their sister treated in such a way? Nesta isn't someone they barely know; Nesta helped them through their trauma, she came for them in the Blood Rite, and she was willing to sacrifice her life to protect them.
If two seconds of Rhysand's mistreatment of Nesta triggered memories of Ember's abuser, how much more will it trigger memories of Gwyn and Emerie's abusers? How are they going to feel seeing their High Lord treat their sister in such a manner?
Gwyn and Emerie never see the IC's interactions with Nesta, and I think that was done on purpose. They may have blushed around Rhys that first time (he is pretty, after all), but I don't think they're going to be fawning over him next book. At the beginning of ACOSF, Emerie told Nesta, "If you're cold out there, you shouldn't suffer. No matter what THE High Lord might think." She didn't say MY High Lord - she said THE High Lord. Which might be nothing, but it might be everything.
How are Gwyn and Emerie going to feel when they comfort Nesta because Cassian said something incredibly cruel to hurt her yet again? How are they going to feel to see Nesta's nearly vacant and carefully blank face, her thin and brittle voice, the bruised and pained look in her eyes - knowing that her own husband did that to her? How are they going to feel to see Nesta constantly torn down by people she has done so much for?
Even if people want to overlook that the IC have mistreated Nesta since ACOMAF, it doesn't change the fact that Nesta has owned up when she felt like she was in the wrong, she's apologized and asked for forgiveness, and she's worked to better herself. The IC has not. They've always been incredibly disrespectful, toxic, cruel, and abusive towards Nesta while gaslighting her into thinking she's the only problematic one. Since the IC have never been held accountable for their mistreatment of Nesta, they are now emboldened in HOFAS to continue it. How are Gwyn and Emerie going to feel knowing that Nesta's not safe in her own home? Knowing that their government entered their sister's home, ganged up on her, socially isolated her, berated her, and threatened her? How are they going to feel knowing that Cassian - the male they trusted to protect their sister - did not protect her and instead let it happen? How are they going to feel knowing Cassian was conflicted about whether or not to allow harm to come to Nesta? How would they react to Nesta's execution comments? How are they now going to trust that Nesta is safe around Cassian?
How are Gwyn and Emerie going to react when they see Nesta withering away and breaking before their very eyes?
Cassian saw that Azriel was romantically interested in Mor, felt jealous over it, and agreed to have sex with her knowing it would hurt Azriel.
The first time he meets Nesta, he immediately passes judgement on her for letting Feyre hunt as a child, despite the fact that she was a child herself.
Tells her he doesn't understand why her sisters love her
Bonds with feyre over their shared experiences living in poverty but treats nesta like she's a stuck up rich girl, despite her living in the same mf hovel as feyre (why does he do this ??)
He gropes her in her own home despite her not wanting him to touch her.
He sees her on the verge of tears due to anger and despair when the human queens won't send aid to the humans in Prythian, and then a scene later says "She barely seems to care about anyone other than Elain."
Will not take no for an answer when Nesta tells him to leave her alone.
When they are both clearly feeling something for each other, he still rips his hand out of Nesta's when Mor walks in. Wtf was this about anyways?
He buys Mor lingerie despite knowing Nesta is his mate. This is just weird in general. Also calls Mor his sister, despite having slept with her in the past.
Judges Nesta for not getting over her trauma in a way that is both quick and convenient to him and the inner circle.
Admits to ignoring her claim that she is enjoying the music while he drags her, against her will, out of a "seedy" tavern.
Supports Feyre and Rhys in their decision to forcibly remove Nesta from her home and relocate her to the House of Wind, on threat of deportation.
Drags her to Windhaven to "train" even when she makes it clear she has no intention of training. As a result, she is forced to sit on a rock in freezing cold temperatures.
When Mor basically tells Nesta she is just like her evil father and the rest of the Court of Nightmares because she is mean to Cassian, Cassian does not defend Nesta nor call Mor out on it.
He brings up Nesta's dead father at breakfast because she won't eat her oatmeal.
He tells her everyone hates her.
He watches her fall down a very steep flight of stairs, and then laughs at her. She was bruised and had a black eye from this fall. Cassian thinks this is funny.
Whines constantly about being a bastard nobody despite Nesta only using "bastard" as a direct insult to him one time, and in that same convo he called her a haughty witch.
He is rude to Lucien for no reason. (unforgivable)
Despite knowing Nesta is vulnerable, he fucks her at the first opportunity, even though he knows she uses sex as a coping mechanism.
Snarls and bitches at Nesta when she talks about Rhysand in a tone he doesn't like, even after telling her he can match whatever she throws at him. (He can't)
Sides with Rhysand over her constantly, even when he is in the wrong.
Every time they do engage in some sexual act, he immediately bolts, leaving her alone and confused. Refuses to communicate his feelings, acts like an asshole.
Keeps secrets from her, and agrees to participate in a vote on whether or not she deservers to know about the swords she created, which directly pertains to her powers. He whines a little, but ultimately does what he is told.
When she voices her fear that she is not good enough for him and will never deserve him, he does not correct her.
When he learns of Nesta’s love for dance and how her mother twisted it into a tool to find her a prince, Cassian turns himself into the victim. (this takes skill tbh)
He interrupts the only true canon Neris moment to shove in and dance with Nesta. Will not forgive him for this. Get off the dance floor.
When they finally admit their feelings on solstice and have a passionate and meaningful night together, he STILL leaves immediately the next morning to go hang with his homies and doesn't see her for a week. She is left alone AGAIN. (Begging him to stop doing this.)
When Nesta has finally had enough of being judged by the inner circle, she decides to tell Feyre the truth about her pregnancy. Cassian is furious with Nesta, takes no responsibility for lying to Feyre, and does not react in the slightest when Rhysand threatens to KILL Nesta. (His mate)
When Feyre tells him that she is angry with all of them and not Nesta, he does not tell Nesta, even though it would be comforting to her while she is at her absolute lowest.
When Feyre tells him Rhys is secretly happy Nesta is going to hate every second of the hike, he has a nice little laugh with Feyre at Nesta's expense.
He makes her endure a back-breaking death march in which she is forced to carry an extremely heavy backpack as punishment.
He sees that Nesta doesn't care if she dies, and does nothing to get her away from the steep cliffs. He snaps at her the entire time, even while she is clearly spiraling and about to have a mental breakdown.
She collapses at the end of each day and all he says is "at least remove the pack so I can cook myself dinner." She has not spoken in days.
He works her to the point of passing out. She literally faints, face first, onto the hard ground and he yells at her for not drinking water instead of trying to determine if she's alright.
When she finally breaks down and cries and tells him how much she hates herself, he tells her how much he loves Rhysand as an attempt to relate to her suffering. (fuck you dude seriously)
He does not correct her when she says she is unworthy of love.
He says "there is nothing broken to fix" despite forcing her to obey him and change her coping mechanisms and behave in the way he approves.
When she tells him the word mate doesn’t mean anything to her because she’s human at heart he dismisses her instantly and says "that's bullshit." No attempt to understand her feelings whatsoever as he tries to force her to admit they are mates before she is ready.
Tells her he didn't ask to be "shackled" to her after she says she didn’t get to choose to be fae, and it was forced on her. (it was)
When she calls in the bargain he immediately thinks of a way to get around it. He does not respect the boundaries she sets for herself. He thinks something like "Easy enough command to work around. I'll tell her to word her bargains more cleverly." She says she wants a week alone and the very next day he shows up to Windhaven in order to force her to speak to him.
When he learns she has been taken into the blood rite, after a lot of sulking and one feeble attempt to disobey Rhys, he thinks something like "even if I could rescue her I wouldn't, I wouldn't take away her opportunity to save herself." Meanwhile Nesta is hoping that he will be coming to rescue her.
When Nesta finally saves him, and tells him she loves him, he does not say it back. HE NEVER SAYS I LOVE YOU.
He calls Eris a coward immediately after learning he was tortured by his father, and likely has been his whole life. In the same thought, he acknowledges that Eris was willing to be tortured to protect their alliance and STILL calls him a coward.
When Rhysand is yelling at Nesta AGAIN for helping Bryce save the entire world, Cassian does not stick up for her. AGAIN! (I stg you bitch)
Amren says to Nesta, in front of Cassian, "Pray to the mother that your sister changes Rhysand's mind tonight" ABOUT WHAT? IS HE GONNA KILL HER? And Cassian does...nothing.
"Nesta's mate shifted an inch closer to her, his eyes darting between the two of them, torn. Like he didn't know who to side with in the brewing fight." I hate him so much for this !!!!
Nesta tells Ember that Cassian is "the most furious with me of anyone" WHY? Nesta even voices that she doesn't think they'll kill her. This implies Rhys has yet again threatened her life because he disagrees with her choices, and guess what: CASSIAN DOES NOTHING.
