"Hey man, whatever you have to say just spit it out already!"
"Uhm…I…I really like your butt!"
He perked up at that mention. “Oh. Yes, I am! Are you?” He looked like a trainer. Maybe they could battle. At least the topic changed.
Well, that was a relief. “Yeah, for sure!” Nate pulled a Pokeball from his pocket and tossed it up and down a few times. “Care for a battle? Fair warning though, I’m pret-ty good.”
Made For Sunny Days || Nate + Mei
Mei had been in Castelia City the day before her planned meetup with her super cool best friend Nate. He had been gone for a long time, so this was bound to be quite the adventure for them. As she walked with as quick of a pace she could muster from her tiny legs, she had eventually made her way through the desert.
Standing before the ever popular Join Avenue, she dusted herself and stepped inside. It was bustling and filled to the corners with people shopping for every possible thing in existence, Mei had to force herself to walk in a straight line and not take any detours. It was incredibly hard when there were free samples and raffles on both sides of the room! She wanted to win something so badly. Looking towards the large clock on the wall, she decided one raffle couldn’t hurt.
One raffle led to four more, and she was already fifteen minutes late. With a loud gasp, she had to make her way out before she really left Nate hanging. Emerging from the large shopping mall, she had both hands packed with goodies and a face full of snacks. That was when she saw him. It was Nate! And he was waving at her from in front of the station.
Mei jumped up and down excitedly.
"Mh!!!" Wait a second Mei you have food in your mouth. Swallowing quickly she began to wave her goodie filled hand in his direction.
"Nate!! Hey Nate!!" Excitedly she ran over to him, not timing it properly had caused her to run at him and tackle him to the ground. "Nate! Ive missed you!"
Nate spread his arms out to hug her, but unfortunately didn't anticipate the effect enthusiasm could have on a teenage girl's hug. Mei slammed into him and he stumbled back a step, trying to stay upright, but he was too off balance and ended up falling down.
Oof. Nate wheezed slightly, the breath knocked out of his lungs, and patted Mei on the back before he started laughing. "Missed you too, Mei," he said, too happy to see his friend again to be upset with her at all. Mei sat up and Nate got to his feet, holding out a hand and pulling her up as well. He noted the fistful of snacks she was holding and laughed again. "Couldn't wait until we got to the park to start on the sweets, huh?" he teased. That was so typically Mei--Nate would actually be surprised if she didn't have something sugary with her.
"So, what were you up to while Nate the Great was traveling the world and having amazing adventures?" he asked, throwing an arm around her shoulders and starting to walk in the direction of the theme park. Now that Mei was here, he didn't want to waste any time enjoying the day to its fullest, and that meant getting there right away so they would have enough time to go on all the rides and do everything!

Made For Sunny Days || Nate + Mei
Nate stood outside the Gear Station in Nimbasa City, looking around eagerly at the people passing by and hoping to catch sight of a familiar face. He was supposed to meet Mei here, where they'd first met, so that they could spend the day together. He'd called Mei a couple of days ago to figure out where she was and when they could meet up, and they'd decided on a day at the amusement park.
Excited didn't even begin to cover how Nate was feeling. He'd missed Mei while he'd been gone visiting other regions, but now that he was back in Unova he couldn't wait to see her again. He hadn't even been gone that long, but it felt like it'd been forever since they'd last hung out.
He rocked back and forth on his heels, looking around and impatiently checking his Xtransciever every few minutes. He knew Mei had a tendency to be late, so it wasn't like he was concerned or anything; he was just really looking forward to spending the day with her and going on all the rides and playing those silly carnival games... and their Pokémon probably missed one another too! They couldn't ask for a better day either: it was sunny but not too hot with a nice breeze, so Nate couldn't really complain about waiting. And—wait a sec. He'd recognize that hairstyle anywhere!
"Mei!" Nate shouted, waving his arms at her. "Hey, Mei! Over here!"
"Hey man, whatever you have to say just spit it out already!"
"Uhm…I…I really like your butt!"
Wally hoped he wasn’t making things too awkward. The whole situation was so embarrassing already. What an odd way to meet someone. “Er. S-same here. I’m Wally.”
"Wally, cool, uh," Nate scratched the back of his neck. "Are you a trainer?" he asked, trying to think of something they could talk about without any more weirdness. If he was they could battle or something, and even if he wasn’t, everyone likes Pokémon, so…
"Hey man, whatever you have to say just spit it out already!"
"Uhm…I…I really like your butt!"
"O-oh…" Wally looked up at the boy, his face still red. "S-sorry for saying that…thing…I didn’t really mean to say it." His embarrassment faded just a little and he tried to smile, but his face couldn’t quite make the movement.
"No worries! I wasn’t offended or anything, just kind of surprised. It was actually, like, a little flattering?" Nate said, laughing nervously immediately after the words left his mouth. Arceus, what a stupid thing to say. Now he was getting embarrassed again.
"A-anyway. Um. My name’s Nate. It’s…nice to meet you."
"Hey man, whatever you have to say just spit it out already!"
"Uhm…I…I really like your butt!"
"Uh…I…no, but…" Wally collapsed into a flustering mess instead. It was probably best he didn’t say anything, lest make it worse than it already was.
Nate frowned at the way the guy was reacting. He seemed upset, which was the total opposite of what jokes were supposed to do to people. Nate wasn’t really sure what was going on, but he felt bad that the other kid was so agitated.
"Hey, don’t freak out. Everything’s cool, okay? I was just trying to—" he almost said "make things less awkward" but decided that probably wouldn’t make the other boy feel better, "—be funny."
"Hey man, whatever you have to say just spit it out already!"
"Uhm…I…I really like your butt!"
"I-I’m so sorry! I have no idea what came over me…"
Nate wasn’t really sure how to react, not used to receiving such compliments. He wavered a moment, caught between spiraling into a flustered mess or laughing it off and making a joke out of it. In the end, the jokes won out.
“Don't be sorry, dude! Can’t fault a guy for having good taste.”
"Hey man, whatever you have to say just spit it out already!"
"Uhm…I…I really like your butt!"
"Oh. Uh…thanks? I guess?" Do I know this guy??

Next in Line || N and Nate
"I’m glad you’re doing well. I left this region a few days after the last time I saw you and have been traveling since," he replied, a light laugh escaping him at the younger trainer’s mention of Hoenn a few moments before. "I actually just returned a few weeks ago, from Hoenn."
He would have added that he was surprised he hadn’t see the Nate when he was there, but the region was large. With so many people, the chances of them seeing one another without coordinating wouldn’t have been high. If only they had known each others plans, perhaps they could have met up.
"Still even without running into you, I made some new friends, both human and pokemon," he made sure to clarify. He couldn’t travel as far without it taking a long time since he left Reshiram in Nate’s care, but an great number of the people and pokemon he met, he might not have if he had simply flown wherever he was headed. "I cared for many friends as I went, and some stayed with me a while. They would eventually return home of course, but the company was quite enjoyable. I imagine if I return to Hoenn I will see them again. It was a nice trip."
"That's cool," Nate said, imagining the kind of people N would have made friends with. Probably trainers who were smart, who loved their Pokémon a lot. Nate found himself wishing he had met up with N; he'd mostly focused on sightseeing and exploring rather than making friends while visiting the other region, and now that he was thinking about it, it seemed like something of a missed opportunity. But, the way things had played out was probably for the best. Nate tended to become overly attached to any new friends he made—it would have made leaving even harder than it already had been, and then he'd be missing them all the time. Besides, it wasn't like Nate didn't already have a bunch of really great friends in Unova. Like he'd said before, they were part of the reason he'd returned in the first place. As for the Pokémon N might have met...
"Did you make friends with any legendary Pokémon?" Nate asked, only half teasing. If anyone could go on vacation and just happen to run into some mythical Pokémon, it was definitely N. "I read about their dragon-type legendaries... Rayquaza, right? And the other two that look alike." He paused, taking a second to try and remember their names, but nothing came to him.
"Reminded me of our trio," he said. They weren't really comparable, though; Unova's dragons were always going to be the best in his mind, especially Reshiram. He and the dragon had spent a lot of time together, and despite not being able to talk to it like N did, Nate still felt like he'd learned a lot from it. But eventually he'd decided to set it free. Keeping such a powerful Pokémon on his team, let alone in a Pokéball, wasn't really fair. Nate wondered if N would be disappointed to learn that they weren't together anymore, but he quickly decided not to dwell on it. Even though the dragon-type wasn't with him all the time now, Nate still felt a weird kind of connection to it he didn't really understand. He had a feeling that meant he was still Reshiram's chosen hero or whatever, but he didn't really have a way of knowing for sure and hadn't seen Reshiram again since they'd parted.
Thinking about the dragon brought back memories of the last time he'd seen N, and Nate recalled something the other trainer had said before they parted ways. Nate hadn't asked about it back then, but now seemed like the right time and bringing it up would be a good way to get his mind off of the self-doubt he'd started to feel.
"Were you ever able to find that trainer you told me about?"
Next in Line || N and Nate
With such happiness emanating from the younger trainer, N couldn’t help but return his grin as he replied. “It’ll be fun!” Nate was one of the few people N thought of as a friend or had won the approval of his companion, Zoroark. He was glad to see the trainer well and have this opportunity to talk to him again.
"We could fly to Nimbasa," he said and shrugged toward the route at their side, "but this route isn’t too long and I’d to catch up, if it’s alright. I mean, it’s been several months since I saw you. How has your journey been?"
"I don't mind walking," Nate said. "Everything's been great! I got out of Unova for a while, went to Hoenn and stuff." He shrugged. "I sort of needed a vacation from," competition? battles? Nate didn't really know—at the time he'd just wanted to get away from Unova and not have to think about everything that'd happened, or the prospect of challenging the Elite Four. But the league had loomed in the back of his mind, reminders following him wherever he went, so he'd come back to see if he was ready to make his way through Victory Road and beyond.
Nate waved his hand around to encompass their surroundings, and by extension the region as a whole. "--this," he finished, a bit lamely.
"But I'm back now! Travel is fun, until you start missing your friends and parents." He was living at home again with his mom, and he'd been on his way to visit his dad in Nimbasa before coming across N. Nate hadn't let his dad know he was coming, though; there was plenty of time for a ride on the ferris-wheel, especially on a day as clear as this one. The view was going to be amazing!
"What have you been up to?" he asked, keeping pace with the other trainer as they began to walk towards the city.

★ : If I saw a shooting star, what I would wish for over anything else.
"Something I would wish for, more than anything…" He wanted to create separate worlds for people and pokemon, because he thought it would be better in the end, but, "I would wish we lived in a better world… one where people and pokemon could coexist. In a place like that, a world with no strife, I wouldn’t have had to say goodbye to my friends."
"It’s a difficult dream to make come true though. A more obtainable wish; I’d like to ride the Ferris wheel in Nimbasa City again. It isn’t far, so perhaps I’ll go. You can join me if you like."
Nate’s smile brightened to near-blinding levels of happiness at the thought of spending time with N. “Really? That’d be awesome!” He admired the older trainer a great deal—if asked, Nate would say that N was probably the most amazing person he’d ever met. He could talk to Pokémon and was really smart and had lots of ideas about the world …and he’d saved Nate, inside the Giant Chasm.
It had been a while since since Nate had been on the ferris wheel, too. When he was younger and still living in Nimbasa he’d gone pretty often, but since then he hadn’t had the time or anyone to go with.
Favorite place travelled?
"One time my dad took me on vacation to Kalos and we stayed in Cyllage City. It was the best! We watched the bike races and went to the beach… oh, and one day the gym was open to the public and we went rock climbing there!"
