Erik didn’t like arguing over the phone with Kate; it only made it harder for him to diffuse the argument. He disliked it even more at the fact that he was in public and by the grumbling of the poor man beside him, disturbing everyone. It took him a moment, but eventually he ended the call, sighing as he placed his phone down and grimaced. Kate was not going to like the fact he’d hung up on her but a trip to the florist on his way home would probably do the trick. He hoped at least.

Turning slightly, he caught the man’s eye, grinning sheepishly. “Sorry about that,” Erik told him, a shrug lifting his broad shoulders. “You know how wives can get, I’m sure." 

“No, actually i don’t. But people talking your ear off? I get that.” Nate stated, smiling slightly as to not be rude. He couldn’t exactly be upset and go on grumbling about it. It looked like there would be more than enough of that for the man once he’d get home. “Hanging up was probably a bad idea, man, you should call her back.” he stated with a chuckle.

“Yeah, yeah, we’ll have to see about that,” Pax rolled his eyes, stopping in the doorway when Nate started throwing a little bit of a fit. He looked his friend straight in the eyes, a deadpan expression on his own face. “First off, don’t start throwing yourself a little pity party because that wasn’t what I was fucking saying. The only person in this building that feels bad for you, is yourself. I meant that you look tense and an orgasm is a great way to fix that. You’re the one claiming it would be my good deed of the week. Which, by the way, I already said it’s something I’ve thought about before.”

Nate was quiet for a moment then he shook his head and pushed his hands in his pockets “I am tense because i haven’t been drinking, Pax, not because i need to get laid.” he stated. After another moment of silence he shook his head against “I don’t know if it’s a good idea. I’d just feel awkward afterwards.” he muttered before looking at him “If you’ve thought about it before why haven’t you ever said anything?”

Nate: Hey don't worry. How about Saturday at eight? It's a good time and Saturdays are less busy than Sundays.

Kate’s day off had been quite hectic. She had both of her daughters with her while her husband was at work, and she was trying her best to get all the errands she had done, but with two tiny children, it was becoming a bit hard. She decided to stop for a coffee and thought bribing her 4 year old with a hot chocolate would get her to settle down so they could go on with the rest of the day. 

With her baby in her arms while her eldest worked on her coloring in book next to her, Kate accepted a work call for a few minutes, talking her assistant through some of the paperwork she’d given her. Ending the call quickly, the blonde didn’t think she was being too loud, at least while she dealt with the babbling from the little ones.

Furrowing her brow when she felt a man nudge her shoulder, she shook her head. “Excuse you. I understand needing to work, but maybe do it somewhere other than a busy public place. That would make more sense.”

“Excuse you but it sounded like you were talking about work in a busy public place too.” Nate stated. He hadn’t noticed the kids. He’d heard the little voices but hadn’t paid attention, too distracted by his own thoughts. As much as he wanted to be upset he couldn’t help smiling when he noticed the little ones “You know... don’t worry about it, never mind. It’s stressful trying to get things done and make sure the kids are alright at the same time, i get it.” he said more calmly, smiling as he watched the little one in her arms.

Heather giggled, this was only the second time spending time with him, but she made him laugh and she enjoyed his company, “Indeed, it is you that we’re talking about.” She smiled at him, she knew he wasn’t really offended by her having come for a meeting, “Hey, I scheduled the meeting here so that I could see you at the same time, we could have gone to the Italian down the street,” she said with a teasing threat to her tone. “Yes, please do. The last thing I want is her spitting in my food because she thinks I’m the poor tipper… she can spit in his food, all she wants.”

“And that only ever means trouble.” Nate said as he chuckled. As true as that was and probably a serious matter, Nate couldn’t take it seriously and he was glad to have made her laugh “The italian down the street.” he huffed “If that’s italian i’m the Pope!” he stated and shook his head “Aw she would never!” he chuckled before raising his hand to get Stella’s attention, smiling as she walked over.

Rusty shrugged, sighing softly. “Then maybe Matt is turning me into a romantic.” He wrinkled his nose teasingly at the thought. “Well, we can find a new way to celebrate.” He insisted. Delaney and I used to drink a non alcoholic sparkling grape drink. It sounds awful, I can’t even remember the brand. But it was surprisingly nice. We could get some of that, they sell it at the corner store.”

“Maybe. He’s a sweet kid.” Nate said with a smirk, as he looked over at him and winked “That’d be great, man. That sounds very good right now.” he admitted “Non alcoholic sparkling grace juice.” he said before laughing “Oh man that sounds awful. I want to try it. Let’s go get it.” he agreed, chuckling.

She smiled softly, pushing her lips to the side slightly pretending to think. “Yeah” she said with a nod “Okay.” she rolled her lips together before laughing a bit. “OH..no, I meant…” she exhaled a laugh. “not with me… I have a spare room.” she said “I wouldn’t give up my bed. Its way too comfy” she teased with a small smile. “If anything, you’d have to share. But, I do have an empty bed in the other room.”

“Great!” Nate returned the smile and took another sip of his water. At least he could thank her properly when his head wasn’t buzzing. “Oh! A spare room! Of course. I didn’t... think of that.” he said, chuckling “Alright then. If it’s no trouble.” he agreed as a bed would be a lot better than sleeping on a couch even if it was a comfortable one.

“My fiancée mate, Benji is my fiancee.” Leni laughed, had she not mentioned that during this conversation? She could have sworn she had but since she was only just about coming out the other side of baby brain it was hard to be totally sure. “I do, one of them is only two months old, so i’m not planning on fucking off to full time work yet. I haven’t spent even nearly enough time gazing at her lovingly in a sappy way so yeah…I’ll stay home a bit longer.” Hearing his question the brunette realised she hadn’t given him her number or anything, reaching her hand out towards him she beckoned for him to give her his phone. “Here, i’ll call myself, pass me your phone. Not that you’ve gotta thank me by the way.”

“Oh! Yes! You told me that!” Nate said, smacking his forehead “Slipped my mind!” he chuckled, leaning back against the wall of the elevator. Not that if he hadn’t been drunk he would have remembered. He couldn’t remember his own phone number if he tried. Maybe it was bad memory, maybe it was that he couldn’t focus on one thing for more than a couple of minutes, either way, it was a wonder he could remember the recipes he used at work. “Two months old!” he squealed with a grin “Cute and tiny.” he chuckled before patting his pockets for his phone and unlocking it “There you go! Well i want to thank you, least i can do.” he said and shrugged his shoulders.

When Jason Sterling was in a room, he owned that room. At least, that’s what he liked to think, and sitting in this cafe was no different. Quite frankly, he was appalled that he’d even lower himself to a standard of having to get coffee from a place like this but he’d put up with it for now.

He was being a diva as usual; sunglasses on inside, a smart, dark blue suit on with a white button up shirt and he was talking loudly on the phone to Jennifer, his assistant, and using his hands as he talked too. A classic Jason Sterling moment.

When he heard someone talk to him, Jason turned his head to look and hung up on Jennifer without another word. He’d call her back. Right now, he wanted to address the person who had the audacity to speak to him. And touch him. Jason looked at his shoulder where he’d been touched and looked absolutely disgusted.

‘So am I, hon,’ he spat back. ‘My work is just more important than yours. If you have a problem, you can find somewhere else to sit.’

The disgust was obvious when the other looked at his shoulder, where Nate had touched him. If anything it made Nate more glad for having done it. ‘Good, now you’re annoyed too.’ he thought as he watched him with a raised eyebrow. Condering Nate was wearing an oversized black hood and blank jeans and had an old backpack hanging from the back of his chair, the differences between the two men were obvious. “Is it now? I bet it is. You’re the most important man in the world, after all. Look at you. How dare i disturb you. What was i thinking? How could i ever think i could tell you what to do? Like being respectful and decent. That’s just for ordinary people. You can do anything you want. Fuck everyone else. I am so terribly sorry. It will never ever happen again. Please go now and shout at whoever you were shouting at, it was brilliant.” he said with a grin, batting his eyes. “What a fucking asshole.” he muttered as he turned back to his table.

Nate had been trying to get his head together and work on his cookbook for a while. Being sober helped immensely but he had never been able to sit down and do one thing for more than a few minutes. Deciding to try doing what everyone seemed to be doing and go work at a cafe, he’d picked a table at the far back, set up his ipad and little notebook and started writing down recipes. It wasn’t going too well. The person at the table next to him had been on their phone, quite loudly, for the past fifteen minutes and Nate just couldn’t focus. With a sigh, he turned over and nudged their shoulder lightly “Mind keeping it down? I’m trying to work here.”

“I’m not being romantic.” Rusty wrinkled his nose at the thought. Despite enjoying poetry and prose, he always liked to think of himself as relatively down to Earth. “I’m being honest.” He smiled at Nate, knowing there was absolutely someone out there for him. “The right one will.” He said firmly. “And we’re not sulking. It’s okay.” He assured his friend. “Celebrate how? How do you celebrate now?” 

“It is a little bit romantic.” Nate teased his friend, knowing full well he wouldn’t like the sound of that. Not that Nate had anything against romance, it just wasn’t for him “Maybe.” he said with a shrug before looking over at him “I... don’t. I haven’t tried celebrating since. Didn’t have any reason to or anything.” he explained.

“Well shit, neither have I so I guess we know the next thing we have to organize.” It seemed that everybody loved this Matt character and he knew he should meet the guy before forming an opinion, but he couldn’t help but be a little bitter. “We will see,” he mumbled, finally unlocking his apartment door and kicking it open with his not numb leg. “Clearly you need to start thinking about it because I would be more than willing and I think you might need it.”

“You’re going to like him when you meet him and then you’re gonna have to admit i was right. Sucks for you, man.” Nate teased, chuckling and helped him into the building once the door was opened “Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” he frowned as he looked at him. Maybe Pax didn’t mean it like that, but still it bothered him “Alright for one that’s not nice and anyway i’m not interested in being your good deed of the week. Not interested in being a pity case either.” he stated “I am fine and i don’t need anything, thank you.”

“We can do it that way, or maybe I’ll pick what I think you’ll enjoy most. It just depends where the night goes.” Richard would never assume that anybody wanted to come home with him or want anything more than a free dinner and he was fine with that. The ones that only wanted a free dinner only got one from him, but it tended to work out for them anyway. “That’s a good thing thing to keep in mind. You’re easy to appease, huh?” Rich winked at him.

“More fun if it’s a surprise.” Nate agreed, with a smile. He didn’t want to think too much about it. He didn’t need Richard to give him presents, but he wouldn’t turn it away. For one he didn’t want to offend him and admittedly it’d been a while since anyone even thought of getting him something. “Maybe? I guess i am.” he picked up his water, taking a sip “Or maybe not, i don’t know. If the candy was terrible i would have been annoyed.” he stated and chuckled.

Following him into the kitchen, Liv leaned against the wall opposite him and looked at him with a little smirk on her lips at his obvious reluctance to tell her more about himself. “Well you could start with how you ended up here..?”, she asked with a little wave of her hand before eventually shrugging after hearing the others question. “I don’t know, I mean vodka is always great but whatever you’ve got..”

Nate busied himself finding a glass for her drink, then looking for ice “Here, meaning the apartment? Well... i needed a place to stay, someone found this place for me and I got a job at a restaurant near by too so it worked for me. So i moved here a few months ago.” he explained and gave her a nod “There’s always vodka here. I make a wicked Caipiroska, want to try it?” he offered.

Rusty smiled sadly at his friend. “Yeah… I know that feeling too.” He murmured. “But things change when you meet the right person. I think it just takes… time and patience. You won’t meet them until you’re ready to fall in love. That seems to be the way the world works.” 

“Didn’t know you were so romantic.” Nate stated. He wasn’t teasing this time, he was just surprised. “Well i guess we’re gonna have to wait and see what happens if the right one comes around.” he said and shrugged his shoulders “We shouldn’t be sulking because of me Rus. We should go celebrate.”

“No worries, I got it, if you’d have puked then I’d have made you pay for it yourself but I think I can fork out fifteen dollars, well Benji can. I don’t have a fucking job but I help him at the club sometimes, does that count?” She wasn’t a gold digger, in fact if her family had no money Leni wouldn’t can and would love them just the same. They had lots though, which could be helpful at times like this. “Sure, we can stop talking about it now, i’ve exhausted the topic. And nah, you can sleep in your bed though, trust me you’ll thank me later.” She cackled as he yelled fuck you at the door. This guy was too much sometimes.

Nate took a moment to process everything she said. It was a bit hard to focus still and he got completely lost every few seconds. “Uh... okay... thanks for the... for paying and Benji... i don’t know who that is but helping at the club yeah, that counts! Helping at the club sounds good.” He agreed, nodding quickly. “You have your babies at home right? Can’t work yet. Nothing wrong with that.” he stated as they stepped in the elevator “I probably will. Oh wait... how do i thank you later? I should.” he asked, realizing he didn’t know how to find her.
