Workshop 1 - abstracting materiality
Working in groups we were given a box of scrap material to play with and repurposed.
we revamped a old styled dress with hand stitching to incopare elements of the modern woman in an exaggerated sense. by adding nipps, vulva and lace as well as cutting into the dress.
The traditional Japanese four-hole stab bookbinding technique has a simple, contemporary appeal and it’s excellent for beginners. There’s no gluing or folding involved, so you can get a beautiful...
This is a good technique to keep a body of work together for example a selection of prints. it is also a simple cost effective way of presenting work.I like the handcrafted bohemian look it creates, adding a personal touch to the end results.
Workshop 2 - Abstracting materilality
In a group of 3 we began to explore the property of paint. We decided to get a large sheet of paper and
we took prints off different sections by laying sheet .of paper on top
we also took prints using by askingh some one to go over the sheet on a skate board
as a whole the sheet is extremely messy and has no real composition to it however there are are some interesting areas within this that we can focus in on.there are some really nice textures, i like how the paint looks like its bleedingh up the page
Cyanotype
Anna Atkins
https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/cyanotypes-of-british-algae-by-anna-atkins-1843
Atkins work with cyanotype is intresting because of its connection with............ she is best known for this work and publishing variopuse books with photographs of plants.
reflection
This is a great way to produce a lot of interesting work in a short amount of time and play with different products to change to the image.
Etching
etching is an intensive print process that involves aot of layers and repeat processes.
its an interesting process and i think its amazing how much detail can be captured in this style of printing. there are aloyt of processes to consider to capture certain outcomes. i found the seminar to be.... however there is still a lot to explore with this prosses as it is time consuming and hard to master.
fransisco goya

Goya creates incredibly detailed prints using this process to depict dark scenarios.
i made a cardboard loom out of spare materials at home by following this youtube link.
MAGDALENA ABAKANOWICZ
https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/magdalena-abakanowicz
Abakanowicz is a fibre textiles artist who creates large woven installations. she creates beautiful, large pieces, her work gave me a new view on textiles art and how it can be used as another medium.
Contemporary art gallery in London.
What draws me to warren is her use of texture and figurative figures in her sculptures. It gives her work an element of drama, which attracts intrigue as the work becomes more subjective to the viewers own intentions.
Macrame
During quarentine I have begun to learn how to make macreme jewelry with is a series of strings knotted together to create a pattern. there is a rich inter cultral history around macreme that i find interesting starting as an african weaving technique and moveing around the globe in resurgence of handcrafted goods in in the us and Europe.
starting these projects has given me an appreciation for hand crafted processes. i can see how you get a sense of pride from the skill.
i wanted to incorporate textiles into my project to connect with the luddites movement. i like how it has made me practice patience, as it can be a long process,
Effel tower: industrial revolution
i made this out of layers of wall filler on top of plastic forks that reinforce the structure.
i wanted to develop this 3D style of working so I decided to recreate this using a different material on a larger scale to make it more impactful.
i have based this piece off the Effel tower recreated in expandable foam and reused wood. i wanted to recreate the image of the Effel tower, as it is an iconic beacon of the industrial revaluation for me. i wanted to incorporate low cost materials that are common in middle class profession or could be found in an ordinary household
the way the foam interacts with is self overlapping and draping is interesting in a way it appears the tower id melting or collapsing under its own weight which is symbolic to the effects of industrialisation on the urban setting.
i think i could of developed this work by making it bigger and with other materials such as metal or even taken it into textiles to connected it back to the theme of industrialisation and further abstract the form .

Robert Dulaney effel tower
This is a strong example of where the effel tower has been used in an abstract form and shows how bastract artists used indusrtial life as insoiration to play with perspective in changing landscapes of the city .
From rural South Africa to Amsterdam sex clubs via Amy Winehouse and Bin Laden, the painter’s thrilling retrospective captures the paradoxes
The myth of Sisyphus
I have taken this exert from Albert Camus- the myth of sisyphus - philosophy of life worth living.
Camus uses the Greek legend to comment on the will of man to push on through the absurdity of menial labour.

Communist Manifesto
i have used the communist manifesto as a means top potray the failings of the proletariat. i think karl marx veiws on industrialization and the abstraction of ‘passion’ from the work place has caused a state of dissatisfaction amungst the people, which is caused by lack of skillfull work after the introduction of the factory system.

It was at the 1889 Exposition Universelle, the date that marked the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, that a great competition was launched in the Journal Officiel. The first digging ...
i have used the effel tower as i see it as a iconic feature of the industrial revaloution and felt it woud bed a good form to play within the realms of abstaction.

Industrial Revolution, in modern history, the process of change from an agrarian and handicraft economy to one dominated by industry and machine manufacturing. The process began in Britain in the 18th century and from there spread to other parts of the world, driving changes in energy use, socioeconomics, and culture.
The industrial revolution in the 18th century was the process of change from the agrarian culture to a predominantly indutry and machine manufactured way of working. this means that machine replace the skilled worker, therefore putting into place a the factory system. this process also created alot of urbanisation, compacting many people into small areas, with often poor living conditions. however there was a rise in work and affordable commodity.
