Has anyone else noticed that as a society, we’re shamed for wanting to sleep? Sleeping in is bad, naps are only okay if they’re 20 minutes, you cant be tired unless you’re a <insert career/lifestyle choice here>, so on and so forth.
I mean, I think we all need to spread our blankets out, cuddle a pillow, and go to sleep. Everyone needs more of it, fuck this “it’s not productive” nonsense. It’s okay to sleep, it’s okay to want to sleep. You’re not lazy because of it.
Cartón lleno hoy tocó leer gringo discourse on LA UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL
amazing your daughter goes to a great public university with spending a dime and u are complaining
i’m losing my fucking mind what do you mean how do students function? since they don’t have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars students either stay at home with their parents or if they have to move cities in order to study they just rent a room or an apartment and they cook their own meals like any adult anywhere in the world would do. what the fuck. and WHAT DO YOU MEAN HOW DOES THE INSTITUTION STAND? THE STATE PAYS FOR THE COST OF NATIONAL PUBLIC EDUCATION WITH THE MONEY FROM OUR TAXES. WHICH IS WHAT THE STATE AND TAXES ARE FOR. WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN!!!
sorry, still on this, but re: my previous tags:
#literally point me to a public national university that doesn't have a ridiculously cheap lunch plan #and most literally have student pensions??? like just because that shit isn't on 'campus' (most unis are spread out across their city) #it doesn't mean that universities and adjacent bodies like student organizations aren't providing support for students #like my university literally offers stuff like free therapy and free veterinary services if you're willing to go through a bit of hassle #they're not ideal systems and i complain about the institution all the time but i have never paid for education y ojalá siga siendo así
i don't want to give a misleading impression, obviously our higher education system is still highly exclusionary, people in towns without universities, anyone below the poverty line regardless of where they live, and even the lower-income sector of the working class are systematically forced out of the national university system, and higher education is in many ways one of the tools that the ruling class has to enforce the class divide.
i have been a full-time worker for the entirety of my academic life and it's been fucking miserable, in the few periods in which i have had the time to participate in organized student activism i have always advocated for wider, broader and stronger housing and student meal programs, as well as bus/train fares and money for reading materials and computers being guaranteed to every student that needs or wants that support. i do believe that universities should be doing way more to actually make higher education a right, and not a privilege of the rich.
but the way to get those things and actually make university more accessible to students whose families cannot or will not cover the costs of their degree is not, and will never be fucking tuition! if we are to have a state that we pay taxes to, its function has to be to guarantee these basic, fundamental rights to all people! housing! food! health! and education! universities cannot be for-profit institutions! education should not be a subject to the fucking free market! it's a public good, and a right, and insofar as a state exists we must demand that it protect and provide these fundamental securities to the people in it.
We are really passionate about Uni, you can read here Argentine university reform of 1918, there was a strike, there army was there.
The demands of the students can be summarized in four main topics:
University autonomy: the right for the university to choose its own government, professors and studies without the intervention of the government or any other organism. Co-government: the equality of all parties in the university (students, professors and graduated students) to participate in the election of the above. Scientific modernization: a review of the contents of curricula, to include modern scientific knowledge to the study material. No tuition: the right for every student to acquire university education. Secular education: education programs and syllabuses free of Catholic dogmatism. The objectives of the 1918 Cordoba Reform were promptly adopted by many student organizations, and one by one, from Argentina to Mexico, Latin American universities experienced unprecedented uprisings. Since University Reform, student organisations have maintained close links with workers' organizations and labor unions, frequently joining them in demonstrations and protests. Another consequence has been the politicizing of the student centers for the elections inside the universities, with which they are usually connected, identified with, and supported by national political parties

social media has really warped our perception of creativity and hobbies. Stop doing things to post them. Just write. Just journal. Just sketch. Just read. Just annotate. Just sing. Just crochet. Just do the thing you’re going to do with the assumption no one will ever see or know you did it. Stop performing. Just enjoy it.
