If you haven't read it yet, it's just the right thing for a tropical escapist fantasy. Stiles is snarky, Derek slowly learns to communicate with more than nonverbal smolders, and the two of them make a life together in a very un-Beacon-Hills-like setting.

Panel one sleeptalk is taken directly from the wikipedia page on the Cook-Levin theorem i ended up at after yet another a night of snow-balling wikipedia articles about subjects i barely understand lol. I love advanced physics and maths topics, they end up with the most uncomprehensible jargon đ
Panel two is where my brain immediately went when I learned that, in very early stages of foetal development, gravity is needed for the development of the first axis (basically how the cells can decide what's 'up' vs 'down'). My brain went 'what if someone got pregnant in zero g then - mutant babies in space!!'. There's actual research on this btw.
Panel three is a stray thought i had a couple weeks ago leading to what I'm sure is a very entertaining string of google searches for my FBI guy to go through. Unfortunately the sodium and chloride contents of the cerebrospinal fluid isn't a high enough concentration to consider it a brine, and thus the brain a pickle, but hey. One can certainly argue the point!

Summary: Itâs the summer after Stilesâ first year of college, and heâs working a crappy job and dealing with nightmares and anxiety - but heâs okay, he swears. He makes it through most days without too much trouble. Then, a certain werewolf comes back into town. Which Stiles doesnât care about, nope, not at all.
After two and a half years, Derek returns to Beacon Hills with his small Pack. Though he tried to move on, something just kept drawing him back to Beacon Hills, heâs just not sure what. Now, he figures he can start building something like a life - but he keeps getting distracted by Stiles Stilinski of all people.

does someone want to write a fic where prince stiles and king derek have a secret relationship. derek gets appointed as the king after most of his family die during a war with the argents. the only hales that survive besides him are cora and peter. desparate to protect the remaining family he has derek signs a peace treaty with the argents. reparations are paid and life goes on. peter is doing...whatever it is that peter does. cora is unfortunately acting out. who wouldn't? a young woman who reached adulthood in the middle of a war and lost almost their entire family. a recipe for a disaster.
the answer to help cora comes in the form of a foreign prince close to her age. to the council and advisors derek tells that prince stiles is to come here to be vetted as a possible suitor to cora. the truth is that derek just wants his sister to have someone she can call a friend.
stiles comes from a very small kingdom with little influence outside it's own borders. stiles is 13th in line for the crown as of now and very unlikely to ever sit on the throne. but derek also has first hand experience on how fast such things can change. derek chose stiles for how unrelevant he seemed on paper. a little to none change of being an argent ally.
what derek didn't anticipate was, well, stiles.
a prince through and through for how well he knows court and royal etiquette, knows more languages than most of the advisors, is also very well versed in cartography for some reason. it was wise to say that stiles was nothing like anyone expected him to be. but knowing the rules didn't mean that stiles followed them, it just meant that he used them to his benefit. he and cora became inseparable friends within days. stiles was cunningly smart but twice as kind to those who deserved it. it felt like everyone in the castle loved stiles within weeks of him being there.
it didn't take that much time for derek to fall in love with him either.
derek hadn't anticipated anyone like stiles becoming a part of his life. derek hadn't planned for any of this at all. he was one of the spares, he was never supposed to be king - to lead. he was taught very little of court politics, instead he was raised with battle strategies and a sword in his hand but that's not how you rule a kingdom. at least derek refuses to rule his parents kingdom, his family's kingdom in such way. derek knew how to lead his army to victory and he would learn to lead his kingdom to prosperity once again.
although stiles was there as a friend for cora he was soon also an invaluable asset to derek. stiles might have been younger than him but he knew politics in a way derek never would. they would at first meet in private by change, then for stiles to help derek. at some point stiles had become someone derek could confide in, he told him of the lycantrophy and why that's the reason the argents attacked. stiles told derek of losing both of his parents as a child and having to learn how to navigate court to survive all by himself.
derek didn't mean to orchestrate their meetings be so secretive. it just happened that way and by the time their affair started they were already used to meeting in the dark.
cora knew before she was told. the hickies on stiles' neck spoke for themselves. peter knew...somehow. but nobody else could because the court would never accept stiles as a consort. he might've been a prince but his standing was too low in a time when they needed allies more than ever to rebuild what was lost and to prepare if the argents ever decided to attack again.
and after exactly one peaceful year later they do.
derek makes the decision to send stiles back home where he will be safe. unbeknownst to both of them stiles is with child when he leaves.
on his journey home stiles sends letters back to derek any moment he can. he speaks of anything that comes to his mind but nothing of the war. nothing important so in the case they were intercepted they couldn't be used agaisnt them. what stiles doesn't realise that it might seem suspicious if he only sends derek letters. not to the girl he was supposedly courting for months.
it's also highly suspicious how tight his clothing is becoming. or how he's throwing up constantly. not only during the morning but all. the. time.
he can hide the pregnancy for a while only because he doesn't live in the main castle with his royal relatives. stiles likes his aunt, the queen, but seeing a face so similar to his mothers everyday would break his heart. instead he lives in his late fathers estate.
it's a place as good as any to hide out from his family in. stiles doesn't want to know how they would react to his pregnancy. especially now when there's been no replies to his letters for months. there have been no news whatsoever of what is happening over in the hale kingdom. stiles does his best not to think about it.
there's not much staff in his moderate estate but they are loyal to him. they help him with the pregnancy, help hide it from outsiders. not that it matters much in the end. as much as they want to help him they can't deny a royal member of the family entry. and neither them or stiles can stop him from telling everyone else of his condition.
he refuses to give out dereks name when the queen demands to know who sired his child. he has no idea in what state the hale kingdom is and if the argents have ki- if something has happened to the hales. he won't paint a target on his child.
the queen isn't fazed by his non compliance. she has apparently been confiscating every letter of his since coming home and finds it rather fascinating that he's only written to derek and no one else. no one says it out loud but everyone knows the truth.
she orders him on house arrest for the rest of his pregnancy and that she'll decide what to do with him after he's given birth. the staff he's known his entire life is let go and replaced. all the warmth he was able to bring back to this house is now gone. he stops leaving his room. it's the only place he feels safe in anymore.
when he gives birth he does it alone. in the dead of the night in secret, just like how him and derek used to meet each other.
little eli is beautiful and for one night and quiet morning he's only stiles'. the world outside his room doesn't exist. stiles is exhausted but can't close his eyes because that would mean taking them off his son.
the calm doesn't last long as breakfast is delivered and they're found but it was magical for the time it lasted. stiles is ordered to the palace despite his exhaustion - to stand in front of the queen to hear her final decision.
it wouldn't be that big of a scandal for him to have a child outside of marriage. something about the hales bothers the queen and stiles suspects that's where the animosity stems from. it's unfortunate that his innocent son has to pay the price. stiles is effective immediately stripped of his title and lands as compensation for the dishonor he's brought to the family he is no longer a part of.
fate is cruel for having a woman who has his mothers face be the one taking away the last name he shared with her.
the only thing holding him together is his son tightly wrapped and held to his chest to keep him warm. he wishes he were back at the hale castle. causing mischief with cora, gossiping with peter when he decided to join dinner, he misses the cook who'd bake his favourite treats whenever he asked, the way light would shine throught the library windows, most of all he misses derek.
stiles hasn't heard in so long and doesn't know anything that has happened in the last few months. he needs to get to derek, if there's any change he's still alive.
but how is he supposed to do that? he has no money anymore, he's only allowed to take the bare necessities from his home he doesn't get to live in anymore and he's so tired and in pain from the birth oh my go- his leg's give out but before he can crash into the cold marble floor there are hands holding him up. familiar hands.
he can't stop the tears from falling when he sees peter. there's relief to see a friendly face who will help him but fear as well for why it's peter and not derek standing in front of him right now.
final moments with his family and the first days on the road are a bit of a blur for stiles. peter thinks they should've stayed longer for stiles to heal and get his strength back but stiles is desperate to get back to his true home.
the argents have been defeated peter tells stiles but it wasn't easy. the losses were substansial but what is important is that derek and cora are still alive.
stiles cries some more hearing that. hormones he explains to peter.
when stiles tries to ask questions peter remains tight lipped. especially questions about derek go unanswered. what peter does tell stiles is that they had gotten worried when letters stopped coming from him. they were afraid an argent sympathizer had gone after him. stiles explains that he had been sending letters but the queen had been stopping them from going and that he hadn't received any letters either.
when they're about a day away from reaching the capital stiles is ready to shed his own skin off from the anxiety he is in. finally peter explains that derek is...different. the last few battles were brutal and derek was in the thick of it.
it doesnt change the way he feels about derek. no matter how different derek now is stiles will love those parts of him as well.
when they finally pass through the castle gates a weight is lifted from his shoulders. and seeing derek waiting for them is like salvation.
he is different like peter said. at least physically from what stiles can see, a scar now runs throught his face from his hair line to his cheek. he somehow looks even larger than before. he looks as tired as stiles feels. like a tight wire ready to snap. his eyes haven't left stiles' for a moment.
peter hadn't told him what sort of cover story they were going for here. stiles is just standing there with their son in his arms trying to figure out what to do when derek just wraps his arms around them both. he doesn't say anything. he doesn't need to.
stiles pushes himself more firmly agaisn't derek. he missed his warmth, his scent. he can't believe he's back here, back in dereks arms. in broad day light as well. eli is a perfect mix of them both so he wouldn't have been a well kept secret for long in any case but it's nice to feel claimed.
eli doesn't care much for their emotional reunion and makes his presence known by crying out.
stiles just laughs as he leans back to look at dereks still handsome face before tucking the wrapping a little looser around eli so he can also see what's happening.
derek still has his arms around him but his eyes are on eli who stops crying after seeing that there's a new person he hasn't met yet.
eli struggles but succeeds at extending his little hand towards derek who after slight hesitation offers his much bigger hand back. eli grabs one of his fingers in a tight grip and stiles can't really say if the sound that comes out of him is a cry or a laugh.
he looks at derek who gazes back at him. he has changed but so has stiles. standing here with their son between them he knows they'll be alright.
Derek has a rule. No one knows about this rule, but it's a rule he lives by. Every person he meets, their full name goes in his phone as their contact. You annoy him, or piss him off? He removes 1 letter. If you have enough transgressions that every letter is removed, and your name has disappeared, you're done. Relationship over. Goodbye. It's a rule that has served him well. Except now the single most frustrating and annoying person he's ever met just told him his full name: MieczysĆaw Genim AĆekzsandros "Stiles" GĂłrski Stilinski. Derek might need a new rule.

Budget for additional wildlife crossings in the wolf's habitat offers additional hope for the species, since road strikes are currently one of their greatest threats.
