“It’s alright! I’m pretty quiet when I want to be. Generally I don’t like talking to people so it pays off. I feel like everyone visiting here is on the verge of being upset. Like they have this whole vacation planned in their head and any slight deviation is just a meltdown waiting to happen.” Amaya shrugged, “I don’t actually think the kids were that upset about it, it was the parents that were like ‘BUT ELSA IS THE BE-ALL, END-ALL OF PRINCESSES’ as if choosing an Ariel costume instead was going to ruin their child’s entire life.”

“Yeah I'm not that big a fan of talking to people and yet I have to deal with people all day,” she chuckles to herself.” It makes sense. I see meltdowns everyday my record observation was fifteen in an eight hour shift. Ah the parents are they worst. They honestly just need to relax. The little kids just want to have a sparkly dress that they can twirl in that’s all.”

“The 8 ball says I shouldn’t go out tonight but I’m not sure how much faith I have in a piece of plastic that pre-dates my existence. You wouldn’t happen to have any leads on something fun to do on a Wednesday night, would you?”

“One day, I heard someone demand a free one just because the chocolate shell was a little cracked when they got it out of the package. Like come on, people, really? And they did it for like five different people – it still tastes good even if it’s not perfect, just find a picture of a perfect one on Instagram if you wanna show your friends. Or even Google!”

“Yeah people seem to have pretty high expectations when they come here and freak out when one little thing is not one hundred percent perfect. I once had someone ask to me remake their cone so it was dead in the center of the cone not leaning to any one side.”

“Hey, sundaes have gone modern! I totally ask for cookies ‘n creme in mine. Oooh, or birthday cake, almost as good but definitely less chunks.” 

“They really have and now we have overstocked on vanilla and chocolate ice cream but its fine I have gotten used to the sassy comments from people when I tell them that we have run and that vanilla is really good with hot fudge. They usually go with what ever other flavor we have left like cookie dough or something. I do really like birthday cake though. But sounds pretty gross with hot fudge in a sundae.”

“yeah.“ she shrugged, kicking a chunk of pavement from the ground. “i don’t know. some kids make the job worth while- but i really only do it for my family. nieces and nephews, love it. that’s all. i’d love to work at the ice cream parlor— so, your lucky.“

“Yeah I understand. Its more special when you have a connection to the kid. The ice cream parlor has its perks like for one being inside but its not that special.It gets pretty boring. ”

“I thought for sure it would be the chocolate chip cookie dough. I remember when that was all the rage.” It also may have been Zones’ favorite flavor, so he was a bit biased. “Maybe you can tell guests that Elsa usually makes the ice cream and she needed to take a nap. No one wants to overwork their new favorite Queen, right?” Even though everyone still clearly called her a princess. He never got to come up with clever excuses for Guests. He didn’t actually work the register. He just baked.

“Cookie dough is kinda popular but people aren’t asking for it as much as they did when I first started working here. That Elsa idea may work with the kids but it probably won’t soothe the adults i”ll still get complaints.”

“Right? I love them so much, and they come in a cup. Bet you can’t say the same about those ice creams shaped like Mickey that I see everyone dribbling down their clothes when they insta-melt.”

“That’s very true the cup is really helpful with the little ones. I’ve cleaned up too many cones to count. Also,there are so many complaints about the ice cream melting and then falling off since most people get cones and it takes everything in me not to respond well its ice cream what do you expect?”

“ I would guess either chocolate or vanilla. Ypu know the basics since they are used a lot in sundaes and other treats.”

“I loved cookies and cream milkshakes when I was younger. I think I drank too many though and now i can only drink them every now and again. That sucks though. I worked at a restaurant when I was nineteen and I would get so stressed during rushes.”

“After this week I’m not sure if ill be able to have cookies and cream anything for a while.Yeah its not the most relaxing job. It gets pretty hectic pretty fast. But there are worse jobs out there you know.”

“I’m more of a vanilla girl.. strawberry if i’m feeling super daring.” She chuckled. “Twizzler?”

“My go to is chocolate and I used to love cookies and cream but now just the thought of it makes me mad. Ah sure,” she replies and grabs a Twizzler.

“I hate that,” Zones said, already pushing over a tray of grapes he’d been snacking on. “Especially when we’re down to the last few apples of the day and can’t make any more and no one wants the one with the wonky looking marshmallow ear.” There was nothing like solidarity in food service. “Which flavor was it, today?”

“ It was terrible,” she replies and graciously took a grape and popped it into her mouth before adding,” yeah I know what you mean. I got so many disappointed and annoyed looks from some parents. Like it was my fault we ran out.And um it was cookies and cream which is sorta weird but its been pretty popular recently and we never stock enough, so we’ve been running out.”

“Oh um cookies and cream,” she sighs.

“You alright?” Ax asked as he glanced up from the book he was reading.

“ Yeah,yeah its just been a stressful day is all,” Nat replies with a heavy sigh.

“Yikes… Normally my solution to stuff like that is to tell people to go home and eat some ice cream, but I kind of get the feeling that that’s not going to help you right about now, huh? What flavor was it, anyway?”

“Yeah not a good idea. Its um cookies and cream surprisingly. Just recently though, which is why we keep running out of it.”
