Mental Illness while being fat.

I don’t really post here on tumblr but since this would create x/3000 posts on twitter and I don’t want to share this with my entire Facebook world, who is unaware of many parts of my life, such as non-monogamy, here we are.
I woke up last night in the midst of a panic attack. Usually when I have panic attacks, I can hone in on why I’m having them. This time I had no idea. Maybe it was a dream (I take Lunesta to help me sleep and it often creates really vivid dreams, not always nightmares but sometimes). Regardless, my body was tingly, heart was racing, super alert and awake after being sound asleep.
I stubbles around looking for Xanax I keep for panic attacks (they don’t happen too often), couldn’t find them, my wife woke up and told me where they were, so I took a tab.
Usually that is sufficent, along with some deep breathing, to calm down. But this time it was different because I starting wondering if maybe I was having a heart attack instead of a panic attack.
Previous to last night, I would have never considered that. I’m under 40, a heart attack has never been on my radar. Well it hasn’t been on it since a doctor appointment in early September.
I had stopped by my doctor’s office after work to get a new prescription for Lunesta, I figured it would be simple, in and out. As is their protocol, they took my vitals. Both the nurse and dr noted my heart rate was elevated. The dr asked me if I was nervous (because being asked if you are nervous def helps if you are nervous). I don’t like the doctor’s office, so that have been a factor but I wasn’t particularly nervous. They asked me to stay for an EKG. We did three run throughs, each making me more anxious, which in turn raised my heart rate. The EKG technician even mentioned that the readings were consistent with someone having a heart attack (another great thing to hear when you’re having someone test based on an elevated heart rate). After I told them I had no symptoms, they relented on the tests with an appointment for a further test in October.
But before I left, I was reminded by the dr that my risk for a heart attack is greater because I am overweight. There it is. I understand they were trying to be through but I had told them several times that 1) I felt fine 2) the testing was making my heart rate go up. I’m fairly sure I would have been believed if I was a skinny dude.
Flash forward again to last night, the idea this panic attack could be a heart attack manifested from this doubt the dr put in my mind about my body. I considered going to the hospital. I considered leaving a note for my wife in case I died in my sleep. I considered reaching out to an ex partner because I didn’t want to possibly die and have our last contact be nothing of substance. I considered calling a current partner and talk to them because they’re a nurse and maybe they would reassure me it was just a panic attack. But end of the day I just tried to relax and as the Xanax worked, accepted that it probably wasn’t a heart attack. And I woke up this morning. Alive and fat.

I love every single person who reblogged this
I don’t think people realize how much of an impact this kind of support can have, I don’t think everyone knows what these little things can mean to us.
It may just be me, I don’t know. But every single time I see this on my dash or on someone’s blog or anywhere else, I kind of just breathe a sigh of relief. That’s one more person who cares. That’s one more person who doesn’t hate me.
Because it means so much, especially when all the media is spewing out is that I’m a terrible person and no one wants people like me near them. It means so much because I’m tired of people who won’t sit next to me in class, or who choose to join the longer line at the grocery store because they don’t want to be beside me and my family. It means so much when I have to lift my head any time someone says the words Islam or Muslim because I’m scared that they’ll say something that’ll hurt, when I have to pay attention to the news because who knows what so and so is saying now, who knows which of my people are being attacked now, who knows what’s going to happen to me now.
It means so much because I’ve been given the idea that the world is against me. And a huge part of it may be, but at least I’ve been reminded that some of it, just a small group of people, acknowledges that I’m a person too. That people like me are just that, people.
Maybe it’s just me, I don’t know. But now you do, so thank you for believing that I’m human when so many people don’t.
Have a great day x
Go unfollow this blog all you want, I am reblogging this.
I am aware this does not follow this blog’s style, however, I find it necessary to reblog this
*bully pushes you*

bully: wtf you piece of shit, that’s reverse bullying
everyone around you: yeah you cant fight hate with hate why can’t we all just be nice to each other
u know this literally happens right
in schools
for real
kids get suspended for being bullied because they fought back or were considered a distraction to the bully it’s not just a metaphor it’s literally reality
And half of y'all on this site perpetuate this very same abuse tactic of gas lighting and attacking others and then painting the person who was attacked as the aggressor when they defend themselves

Map of the new Community Improvement District in Columbia, Missouri Normally gerrymandering in a medium-sized town that ...

Normally gerrymandering in a medium-sized town that doesn’t even pertain to city council elections would be too down-in-the-weeds, but this story from the Columbia Tribune is too funny to ignore. Self-interested business owners successfully petitioned the Columbia, Missouri, city council to create a local Community Improvement District, which would have the authority to impose a half-cent sales tax increase with voter approval. However, the district lines were drawn in a manner that attempted to avoid containing any eligible voters, meaning that property-owners themselves would get to decide on the sales tax increase as a way to avoid further property taxes to pay for improvements.
Unfortunately for them, things didn’t exactly go according to plan. It soon became known that a single voter, University of Missouri student Jen Henderson, was registered to vote in the new CID. That means that she alone will get to decide whether or not to approve the sales tax increase. The CID has already gone into debt to finance planned improvements and was counting on the increased revenue from the sales tax increase.
Predictably, Henderson is not pleased with how manipulative this process has been. She was even asked to de-register so that the vote would revert to property owners. While Henderson hasn’t publicly stated which way she plans to vote, she sounded skeptical of the proposed sales tax increase and rightfully pointed out how it is regressive in nature while the benefits accrue mainly to incumbent businesses.
In a delicious twist of irony, if Henderson votes against the sales tax increase or the vote is called off entirely, the only way for the CID to pay off its debts will be to levy further taxes onproperty, which is exactly what these businesses were trying to avoid. Most of the time gerrymandering is successful and unfair, but instances like this show it can sometimes backfire spectacularly.

This is hilarious.
