Relax
I had fun writing this one, I got the idea for it from a tumblr post I can't find anymore but I hope you enjoy it! I wrote it on my tablet so the formatting is a little weird, but I just had to write it down asap!
Hero made sure the ropes binding Villain to the chair were secure. It wasn't like they were going anywhere, they didn’t have any superpowers- just some gadgets and a lot of nerve.
“Are you going to call the authorities?” Villain asked.
Hero's finger hovered over Chief’s number.
“Yes. And this time they're going to make sure you of trouble.”
“Of course they will.”
Hero glared at Villain, who smiled politely.
“But, you know, I was having such a nice time with you this evening,” they went on, “it would be a shame to cut it short.”
“Would it though?”
Villain chuckled. Hero ignored the way their heartrate picked up. So Villain had a pretty laugh. They were still a deranged criminal mind. Hero made the call. It was a brief conversation, and soon enough Hero was pocketing their phone.
“You seem tense,” Villain noted.
“Hm.”
“And you’re pacing.”
“Hm.”
“And your face has that little crease it makes when you're stressed.”
Hero rounded on Villain.
“Well maybe I wouldn't be so stressed if you would learn to keep your hands to yourself!”
“Are you saying I'm handsy?” Villain smirked.
Hero could just feel their cheeks turning pink.
“That's not what I meant and you know it! I was referring to the fact that you keep stealing stuff! Stuff you can’t possibly have a use for! Quantum colliders, red energy batteries, a gumball machine, and a temperature-gun! Not to mention all the money!”
Ice crystals had started for form on Hero's fingertips, they were so worked up. Villain spoke again, calm as ever.
“I do have my needs for them, but I won’t argue with you right now. Not when you need to relax.”
Hero stared at them with an incredulous look. That was when something peculiar happened. Hero could've sworn they saw a red glint in Villain's eyes.
“Listen to yourself. So stressed, so tense. Wouldn't it be better to just relax?”
The ice crystals on their fingertips receded back under their skin. Hero tilted their head. Their heart wasn't thumping out of their chest anymore, and the atmosphere in the room felt calmer for some reason.
“Why don't you sit down? We can have a relaxing chat.”
Villain nodded to a chair in the corner of the room. Hero’s legs carried them to it, and before they knew it, they had pulled it over to Villain and sat down opposite them.
“Good. Very good. Isn't that better? You can release the tension in your shoulders and relax. Relax.”
Hero felt the stiffness in their body melt out of them. Their hands were limp at their sides. Villain was saying something else, but their mind was going blank. Still, their subconscious seemed to pick up on every word. Hero could feel themselves sinking into their chair.
…
“Good job, Hero.”
Villain gazed at their hero fondly. Their jaw had gone slack and their eyes stared at nothing. A tinge of red glinted in them.
Villain spoke into an earpiece.
“You can come in now. I’ve got them settled.”
Villain's team came slinking into the room. Sidekick from the window, Henchman from the back door, and Vigilante from a hole in the roof.
Henchman removed the ropes binding Villain to the chair, while Vigilante put a hand on Hero's shoulder. Sidekick waved a hand in front of the crime-fighter's face.
“Man, they're on a whole other planet right now, huh?”
“Lightyears away, I'd imagine,” Villain said, adjusting their gloves.
Villain approached Hero. They crouched down to their side and whispered into their ear.
“Sleep.”
Villain snapped their fingers, and Hero was out like a light. Villain caught them as they slumped forward and lifted them into a bridal carry.
“All this just to get alone with them,” Vigilante shook their head.
“Ah, you wouldn't understand,” Villain sighed, “we have a thing going, Hero and I. They just need some help getting to where I'm at.”
The villain team filed out of the abandoned building. Henchman got behind the wheel of a sleek, black vehicle. Vigilante got in the passenger seat, while Villain and Sidekick slid into the back. Villain lay Hero across them, their head in their lap and their ankles over Sidekick’s.
“Let's go home,” Villain said, stroking Hero's hair.
The car rumbled to life, driving off into the night just as Chief and their officers arrived at the old building.
