Nothing else mattered. Nothing. Else. Mattered. It was all she could think when Noah came running towards her, but it wasn’t until the impact that Riley actually allowed herself to believe what was happening. It hit her like a truck, and she spun the girl around slightly to keep them both on balance as tears stung her eyes. This was real. Noah was here, and safe, and healthy…She couldn’t have asked for more. “I don’t – How…?” Words weren’t formulating, so she settled for just keeping the younger girl close instead. 

Chuckling breathlessly was all she could seem to do in response to the statement, her arms around Noah’s waist tightening instead as she shook her head slightly. “Likewise.” Riley replied, burying her face into Noah’s shoulder for a few moments as she tried to let it sink in. “…Fuck, I missed you.” She finally replied, pulling back just enough to kiss her.  

     the kiss, the embrace... the scent and feeling of riley made her feel like the luckiest person on earth. and she for sure was the happiest she could possibly be under the circumstances the world has fallen into. noah kissed her back, caressing her cheek and wiping away the tears of happiness with her fingers as she did. “i’m so happy, riley, i’m so fuckin’ happy you’re alright...” a whisper left her lips as she finally pulled away to look at her face, to scan each and every inch of her beautiful being. 

     “where were you?” a question that has haunted her for years finally to be answered. noah still couldn’t believe it. she was thankful, but all of this felt like a damn dream. “--i missed you too, love, i missed you so much...” she planted another kiss on her lips -- noah couldn’t get enough of her and even though she wanted an answer to her burning question, riley being here, with her was something she valued more than that.

it’s easier for emmy to act as back up. this little one, she always had an intricate plan ahead of her — any interference would probably just end up with them being attacked. she gives a small thumbs up — as if she’s a proud MOM, and lets a few steps ring out beneath her, attempting to quieten them as they went along, ❝ what’s the plan, macgyver? ❞

     noah didn’t let the small group out of her sight -- she could hear emmy coming up towards her. “these three runners -- i take one out with my knife, the other one with a gun,” she paused, turning back to emmy for a moment. “ ---- it has a silencer, don’t worry. then the third one with my knife again. i’ll try to make as little as possible sound. and in case the clickers from over there start making their way towards me -- that’s when you step in by distracting them. throw rocks, sticks, whatever you find -- the opposite way.”

Riley was more than ready for her first day of patrol. After a week of sitting around waiting for the guys at Willow Creek to evaluate and assign her to something, she was itching for that adrenaline fix. It was the voice that stopped her in her tracks just shy of where the other two stood. That voice. The one she never thought she’d hear again, assigned to a girl she’d thought dead. They may have had their backs to Riley, but the brunette could recognise that voice anywhere. She supposed there had always been that small part of her that assumed Noah was still alive; she had wanted to believe it more than anything, but there were only so many dead ends you could take before skepticism began to win out. Her mind had practically evaded her, unmoving no matter her intentions as she called out. “Noah?” It was intended as a shout, but left her lips barely higher than normal volume… She’d be so pissed if this was another dream.

     her heart seemed to stop right in that moment. the girl she’d left her home with. the girl that made her dull world feel better. the girl she’d LOST and went outside the walls every night to look for. ----”riley..?” noah barely whispered to herself before turning around to see the other’s beautiful face behind a couple of people.

     she immediately pushed through all of the others, not paying attention to anything but her. the girl almost knocked the other off by wrapping her arms around riley’s shoulders, her own heart racing. “oh my god... riley, i was so scared you were dead...” tear after tear rolled down her cheeks as she wouldn’t let the other go from her embrace, thanking fate for bringing them back together again.

emmy muses over the pack on infected beyond them, . . as if there was any difference between them. they didn’t look like they’d put up much of a fight - slow movers are the BEST, ❝ the ugly one with his jaw hanging off, . . put him out of his misery of being so damn ugly. ❞

     she turned to emmy, grinning before taking a glance at the unfortunate infected. a twirl of her knife in the girl’s palm was like a small signal to herself that she already had a plan on how to take him out. “--sure.”

       he hummed and immediately switched modes. levi mentally took inventory of his stock of moonshine, as well as his supplies and other ‘orders.’ “sure.” he could appreciate, at least, that she didn’t think he did this for free, nor did she try to intimidate him out of payment as if that ever worked before. “you can pick, either muscle or goods.”

     she mentally shook her head, saying no to muscle immediately. “--goods,” noah nodded as she looked at the other. there were some spare supplies she thought could cover the price of the moonshine. “just tell me when we meet.”

       — getting into this role slips on like an old glove, sure, but never had he been asked so jovially. “depends, what do you need?” because really, it could be a number of things, sometimes things he didn’t advertise. still, he had a pretty good idea of what she wanted, but he’d rather make sure.

     “i don’t know what else you’ve got, but i need alcohol, to be more exact.” noah didn’t like that word. she often didn’t like words that made her seem weaker, that made her seem dependent to something. but this wasn’t a situation she could escape. -- “just tell me what you want in return.”

     “hey, it pays off.” he prodded at the dirt, now drawing literal lines in the sand, tracking movement and position. “sure. five hundred feet.” he said off-hand, lazily flapping his hand in the distance. 

     he let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. he l o v e d melrose, but the immunity concept was just a dream. “great. so then what is it? i didn’t take you for a crusader.”

     ---- “oh!!” she gasped after answering. “i can’t believe i almost forgot. i heard you have something i might need?” her latter words sounded like half a question and half a statement. of course she had alcohol in her mind. after losing a loved one hell knows where and being left all alone in a camp she barely knew anyone in it was one of the only medicine that’d help her.

    – “i don’t know, targets — ” he stopped as she crouched, eying her knife and raising an eyebrow. “not slipping that between my ribs. other reasonable things.” levi surveyed the situation and turned back to her, flipping his axe around in his hands. “should i even ask why?” pause. “you’re not one of the people who thinks they’re immune, right?”

     “don’t worry, i’m not gonna betray you like that,” she laughed lightly before twirling the knife and clasping it as she looked at the other. “i have more important targets than the living.”

     she paused for a moment as she widened her eyes at him. “do you think i’m fucking stupid?” -- noah sighed. “i’m not. i’m not going to blow my last shot at life for a chance.”

emmy’s brandishing an expression that’s halfway between disgusted and impressed. it’s not often that people feel such excitement over such a situation, but emmy also reciprocates it, pulling her tomahawk from the bag strapped to her, ❝ stealthy, . . one of those fuckers practically spear tackled me the other day, so unless you wanna’ get fucked up, . . ❞

     noah shrugged it off. not everyone feels the way she does -- and it’s okay. the girl put her gun back into its holster before pulling out a butterfly knife instead. “which one you wanna start with, then? there’s quite a few. we need the furthest one.”

       levi set a blank stare to her, then to the horizon where he could, indeed, spot some infected crowding. “i’m pretty sure there are better ways to train, you know? ways that don’t involve risking infection. just a suggestion.” now, levi didn’t care about the irreverence taken towards viewing the apocalypse, but he didn’t want to put himself in unnecessary danger.

     -- “fine, grumpy cat,” noah rolled her eyes, crouching down in front of the other as she sharpened her knife. “what do you suggest then, teacher?” the young girl smiled at the other as she tilted her head to the side. sure, there were lots of better suggestions, but hers was the most fun.

         — Everett managed to crouch behind a dumpster, peeking around the side and spotting Noah across the way, he waited til she was watching him then nodded and sprung into action. He easily took out the runner that was closest to him, swiftly moving onto the next, and although he wouldn’t admit it, he was also trying to keep an eye on Noah, he didn’t need it on him if she got herself hurt. “Are you managing”? he called over his shoulder, trying to keep an eye on what was in front of him.

     the girl rushed into the battlefield as soon as she saw everett doing it. swiftly taking out the first one, she moved onto the other, the knife in her hand doing all the work as she killed the infected one after another. she turned around for a moment to assure the other she was alright. “yeah, i’m doing fine----” but her words were cut off as one of their enemies knocked her knife out of her hand. noah’s immediate reaction was to grasp her gun as she stumbled away from the danger and then shooting without even aiming. her panic took her over for a moment, but then she realized she got the last one. “we’re fine,” she said as she tried to catch her breath again. “we did it. we got them.”

SHE HADN’T seen anyone so excited to kill zombies … it was quite amusing. Ella couldn’t help but smile. “ go on … ” she thought it would be best to watch the girl go before turning to the passage. “ just don’t get yourself fuckin’ killed, okay? ” she’s seen one too many people get bitten right in front of her.

     “i won’t,” she nodded before continuing to sneak up to the infected. she made her way to a cover before looking over to ella to make sure she had her eyes on noah. after that, she rushed to the first one, her knife doing its work as she killed one after another quite graciously. after she was done with the group, the girl made her way back behind her cover -- she could hear clickers making their way up from the underground passage. noah poked her head up, scanning the surroundings to make sure she could go back, but the path back to ella was now blocked by the clicker group. 

     she made a sign for ella not to open fire yet and tried to think of a way to sneak around them instead of taking them out -- there were too many and there could be much more if she makes more sound. noah tip-toed around the underground’s entrance and as soon as she was sure none of them were following her, she started running. soon enough she was back with the other, slightly out of breath. “--told you i’d be fine.”

ELLA SQUINTED, eyeing at the one the girl was talking about it. she let out a groan. “ okay, how about this: ” she took out her gun, looking at the other in the eye. “ if you want to parade and go on a kill streak on these few, go ahead. I’ll cover you. ” Ella figured that was better than dragging her in the mud of grumpiness. “ I’ll be right here, watching the underground passage and if you’re in a shitty situation, run away or call out for help. ” she tried to keep her voice at a whisper.

     noah couldn’t help but GRIN as she kept twirling the knife in her hand -- “you won’t be disappointed.” her previous plan -- the one that involved lots of gunshots and unnecessary sound -- didn’t seem as good anymore. a gracious stealthy killing spree seemed like a better idea and that was exactly what she had planned now. “i’m still going to start from the one i mentioned. just look at me go.” the young girl then turned around and started making her way to her initial position.

chvarlie:

     “are you an idiot?” charlie all but seethed as he hand wrapped around noah’s wrist ( gently, but no room for wiggling free ) and tugged her back down to his side. when he had invited her to go on a running trip with him, he didn’t know he was going to be babysitting as well–it was in this moment now, that he wished he had went alone.

     it was easy to become unhinged because of the end of the world. sometimes charlie forgot it happened to others easier than his own inevitable end. 

     “stop making so much fucking noise. we’re lucky they haven’t noticed us yet.” breathing through his nose, charlie gave himself a moment of pause. they did need supplies, and they had to get through the few stragglers at some point, but he didn’t want them all running towards them at once. if she wanted blood, charlie would let her have it, just…not as recklessly. “we do it the stealthy way. jesus noah, one day you’re going to get someone killed–or worse, yourself.”

     “UGH,” she rolled her eyes at the other, but noah knew he was right. she did make too much noise -- and wanting to go all in wasn’t the best idea this time. the girl hardly managed to wiggle her arm out of his grip, crouching down shortly after. “fine.”

     she was actually happy that someone still cared about her -- something she noticed from the other’s latter sentence. this wasn’t the time to be sappy about it, though.

     “how exactly are we going to do it, then?” noah finally turned to charlie as she gripped her butterfly in her palm, twirling it with her fingers shortly afterwards.
