stuck in reverse update

hi

i’ve gotten a few questions about stuck in reverse recently and i have some unfortunate news.

there was a new chapter. i sat down and wrote it and was going to post it tomorrow morning, but then my dearest dog, whom i love so very much, launched my laptop off my bed. it went flying at mach jesus until it bounced off my dresser and landed on the tile, effectively shattering it.

i was not writing on a platform that autosaves because i am an idiot. so i regret to inform you that it is gone. along with a majority of my drafts.

i will do my best to rewrite the chapter as quickly as i can. recovering it is not an option, unfortunately, because my laptop was ancient and it is really very broken.

in terms of the your last post is the undergrad prof alex or mary clark 🤔

honestly, neither feels right to me!

with alex, it would immediately overshadow everything else about their dynamic. suddenly every interaction is colored by this huge power imbalance and debt, and it kind of flattens what could be a much more interesting equals-who-clash relationship. like yes alex is older but they’re close enough in age that it just doesn’t sit right, yk? i also don’t see alex as a very maternal figure. the job is her baby

and mary clark doesn’t work either, but for different reasons. she’s older, she has kids, and yes she becomes really important to casey—but as a mentor, not a parental figure. casey finding her own footing professionally and having mary clark in her corner as someone who believes in her work means something different and more interesting to me than mary having taken her in when she was at her lowest. it would change what that relationship is.

my initial post was just a late night ramble, but i do think i will incorporate the concept into something i’m working on
