Heart wrenching screams pierced through the air,
Haneul stood there covered in blood and bits of a human being.
Well. They weren’t much of a ‘being’ anymore, however; this person had just jumped into their very own death. It just happened to be right in front of him, literally a metre away. The screams didn’t come from Haneul although being the closest by far, but rather all the other bypassers. Chills ran down his spine, his gaze locked at the malfunctioned body in front of him.
The girl was dead. Haneul blinked.
Was he in shock?
Body parts laid twisted on the ground, bent in ways they truly shouldn’t... and yet he couldn’t bring himself to look away, to move from the scene. Just a few more steps further and the girl could as well have forced him into the same fate. Panic had hit the audience right away but Haneul didn’t hear it, didn’t notice it as he just stared at the lifeless eyes before him.
It was like she meant for him to see her. He swallow hard, it’s the day before a new year. The blood pool around the young teenager’s broken human shield, becoming bigger and bigger by the passing seconds. Someone has called for an emergency, but it wasn’t Haneul. Blood spatter was visible on his face and clothes, he stood still and simply observed nothingness.
The sight was fascinating, yet made him completely numb. Haneul felt a rush of mixed emotions as he kept on staring at the girl wearing her school uniform. Fright, curiosity, anticipation. What if he could be the cause of those lifeless eyes? His brain began to work, he stood there perfectly silent and unable to move in the midst of pure chaos.
‘Haneul...’ What the--
‘Haneul, baby boy, I’m over here...’
His attention averts, dark brown head lights rising to meet a shocking sight. “Mum,” his tone a mere whisper underneath his breath. This couldn’t be right. What on Earth was she doing there, especially after so long? He saw her in the distance so it didn’t make sense how well he heard her voice, though it didn’t matter. A step forward... ‘Stay there, sweetie!’
The voice sounded so incredibly gentle, just like he remembered it and caused an abrupt end to his moves. He still listened to her, he always would. But why was she there? How was she there? Haneul had so many questions and had already forgotten about the girl on the street before him. Lips parted as though he was meant to say something but remained mute.
‘Shhh, my love...’
‘Mummy want you to do something...’
False words and empty promises, Haneul believed whatever she said next. A smile came to compliment his currently gory features, only growing by the realisation. There was a way to get her back Realistic or not, Haneul bought the vision right away. I’ll do it for you, mum. I’ll do whatever it takes to get you back to me.
Little did he know, that she was not real.
