I have been awake less than five minutes and already feel overcooked
It occurs to me that I have not really had quiet since we arrived in Ohio. We're actually spending more time with his parents staying in a hotel than we usually do when we're in the same house. There's nowhere to escape the constant TV and conversation

People who are making posts telling us what is happening over on threads, twitter, and Instagram are like war correspondents sending us reports from the front.
I need to remember to ask the nurses at Scotty's dad's nursing home if he's allowed to put photos and stuff up with, like, blue tack. The place is fucking depressing even before you get into the reasons he's there, even a 10% improvement would be great.

Being from cities makes it weird to visit not cities because, like, this is the road outside our hotel:

I will never not be annoyed at getting downvoted for something that is factually true.
Scotty's mom is looking and acting better than expected, so that's nice. Her usual, cheerful self, just a bit more medicated and iffy about food. Assuming the treatment works, I could see her bouncing back and living to almost 100 like her mom.
His dad...I expected a fair bit of physical decline. He's made great progress in terms of ability to move around and while his prognosis has never been good, it's better than it was when he was first diagnosed. Mentally, though, he seemed...less there than I'd have liked. Not disoriented, really, but like he was struggling to keep track of the conversation and doing his best to hide it.
That could well just be pain or discomfort, but there was something about it that I can't quite explain. And, honestly, I've always been far more concerned about his dad's cognitive health than his mom's because regular socialisation is vital to maintaining cognitive health in older people and the man doesn't talk. He is a prime candidate for preventable age related decline.
I think if he can get to a point where he can go home, he'll improve at least as much as he can given that he does have a brain cancer that is almost certainly going to kill him. I really do not want him in that nursing home a second longer than necessary though
Googling what parts of a car are safe to touch in a thunderstorm while waiting for Scotty to check-in to the hotel is fun

At the gate! Scotty is off in search of food, and we have both been reminded that we actually like the airport because it usually means we're going somewhere fun
My hands have the pre-hive feeling and Scotty has a cluster headache triggered by his mask. This is less than ideal, but at least we're at the gate. All we have to do is get on the plane.
On the plane! First row and they didn't give us enough time to deal with the wheelchair so I feel like an ass with going back and forth to put up luggage, but we are on the plane
Landed safe and I felt like an ass getting the luggage down so I'm pretty sure I just generally feel like an ass in situations most people think are normal
