we are always indebted to people with a spine, wherever they are, whoever they are, whatever they do!! thank you everyone with a conscience, thank you for saving us all!!
thinking about this again since lewis retirement rumours are doing rounds again. but here’s the thing with the Hamilton that everyone wants gone so desperately. we can all shout amongst ourselves, but there is no legacy to ruin. this has been a glorious career, the most magnificent this sport has seen, a long humble practice in winning with pride and losing with humility. an inspiration for all communities- his own people who had been denied opportunities and dignity for centuries, and others who too have learnt much from him. there is nothing left to prove. this has been a career not defined by blinded aggression or bouts of violence, or nepotism, or connections. this is so much more meaningful, on and off the track, a career of being respectful to others and receiving that respect back, of raising your voice when you must, of being truly one of a kind. no failure on track can ruin what he has already built, even if he never wins a race again, this will be a champion’s journey. his fans should never have to worry about the noise, this is not a guy defined by this sport, he’s risen above it. this is his only legacy.

thinking about grace’s decision to go back and save rocky. grace who was disposable in the eyes of those heading the mission because he didn’t have any immediate family (“you don’t even have a dog”) grace who was left completely alone, in the vast infinity of the universe, with little to no help. grace who only had food that would last him a few more years. grace who had negligible astronaut training and was left to battle with the unknown, alone . thinking about the immense courage (and grace!) it took for him to refuse to do that to someone else, to refuse to leave his friend alone. (“he will not be able to find the leak because the leak is the ship itself, he will die a slow, painful death…alone) to go back fully prepared to die, but to not let his friend be scared and suffer alone. and the love of that friend, a cutie spidy-rocky-small friend, who refused to treat him as anything else but valuable and loved, who breathed in a toxic atmosphere and dragged grace to safety, risking his own life in the process, giving him medical care and nursing him back to health. the “alien” friend who called him “brave”, not only useful. the final scene of them sitting together on the shore of a water body, safe and happy!! thank you creators of the book and the film!!! thank you art for saving us all!! they are both still on Erid and happy and safe!! grace teaches the Eridians about love and hope and science!!
