More college reboot au Vlad and Jazz cuz it was too good not to

AU infodump under the cut

Jazz actually digests psychology and therapy and becomes a zen party girl who learns to let go of unnecessary responsibility and enjoy life. (Now Danny’s the one taking on too much responsibility and pushing himself, she tries to gently persuade him to chill out)

Vlad becomes a jaded and distant mentor figure (more like he tries to give unsolicited advice and Danny doesn’t listen to him) with dry snark. He’s become patient because he was forced to be, and he’s exhausted/depressed yet is slowly trying to mend his bond with the Fentons.

Jazz and Vlad hang out some because Danny shooed Jazz away from learning about ghost hunting from him and Jazz is morbidly interested in vlad’s messed up psyche and he knows she’s there analyzing him but tolerates it because he wants company so he takes her on ghost zone errands sometimes... help her get some academic research in.

If Sam was a ghost, what kind of powers do you think she would have?

…hm. She’d give Horror Queen vibes. Shadowy type powers, some cross between nocturne and spectra. I wish the show talked more about Sam’s interests rather than she’s goth and an advocate. Best I could reference was her interest in horror movies.

Your question aside I feel as though she lacked any real character building in the show the way Danny and Tucker did- Danny’s referenced as having interest in astronauts and Tucker keeps up with trends and tech. Sometimes I like to think Sam would go into social media influencing through alt makeup/fashion or gaming when I wonder what her other interests would be. I suppose ghost hunting is an interest but that kinda ignores the point.

That it has a type of spectral radiation in it. When ghosts first die they still tend to look as they did when they were still alive, but upon spending enough time in the ghost zone the spectral radiation and bent laws of space* (physical mental and emotional), time, and reality tend to warp their original forms into something less human. Danny and most halfas look human much longer since they stay out of the ghost zone to live human lives but eventually Danny will have to deal with the inevitable degradation of his human form. Vlad had to.

However the effect of spectral radiation on the living can make humans fairly sick if exposed to it for too long, which is why research on the ghost zone can be treacherous for researchers. Sam Tucker and Danny were all given serious warnings to not mess with the ghost zone even before they portal opened because of this radiation. So Sam and Tucker are wary to put on protections before chasing Danny through the ghost zone.

Once Jack and Maddy realized spectral radiation was bleeding into their lab from the portal, they moved down the street and turned their old house into a full on research lab with hired employees as to combat the growing ghost problem.

* the reason ghosts have all these incredible abilities is because of the nature of the bent laws of reality of the ghost zone. Possession comes from their ability to bend mental space laws, where they can push their mind into the space another mind occupies. Emotional space is referring to the phenomenon where when a ghost is feeling strong emotions, people nearby can feel them as well even if they haven’t detected the ghost yet. The physical space they take up can be hazy, which is why Danny’s ghost sense triggers. That or the bent temporal laws. Skulker in his first appearance predicted the fate of Dash’s adult life, so temporal laws can be bent. Obviously we know this exists because of clockwork but other evidence of ghost’s warped sense of time exists in canon. Danny potentially could develop some precognitive abilities if you wanna write him that way. But in my mind his ghost sense is either developed from bent spacial law or bent temporal law.

Have you read 'A Glitch In Time' yet? HIGHLY recommend it for getting back into DP, there's a photographed upload floating around somewhere, but the quality of the book is so nice, def recommend buying it.

Have you read the newest graphic novel A Glitch in Time yet? It’s pretty awesome and retcons a bit of dumb shit canon did ;)

I haven’t read it yet but as I’m chit chatting with old friends I heard they did some timey wimey stuff… Which funnily enough is the exact way I would’ve fixed it in my own reboot if I had the chance! Wrote about it a little in 2020 on this blog I think. Props to the author. I really need to check the new comic out.
