Mikey tries to interact with Gerard normally sometimes, as if she was who she used to be. Like when families gather around to show their loved one photos in hopes that they’ll start recognizing them. They don’t though, and she doesn’t. She just asks Mikey to play, and he grits his teeth while she repeats their captors behaviors as if they were normal, kind. He bruises where she pretends to give him shots, from the sheer force of the ‘injection.’ He stares at the purple welts when he has access to his reflection, and he doesn’t grieve for himself. He imagines what Gerard’s arms and thighs must look like.
