Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct
pt 2 of baby daddy!pope still loving his baby mama but now he thinks he's lost her forever
pt 1.
the sound of smurf's voice was like nails on a chalkboard. it scared you, it irritated you, most of all it made your blood boil. "i know i said anyone can hold her. your mother is not in that group," you muttered, immediately standing up off of pope's lap to scoop your daughter up, holding her tightly to your chest. "you know she's going to try," he muttered as he stood up, turning to hide your bags in his closet. his words pissed you off to no end, your hand shooting out to grip his jaw tightly and force him to look at you. "and you are not going to let her. i have been nice enough coming over here. you can do this for me," you mumbled, hearing her continue to call out from downstairs. his eyes stared into yours, a smile threatening to cross his lips. he just nodded, his hand coming up to cup your hand on his face before you yanked it away.
once he had everything hidden, he took your daughter back from you and rested her on his hip, leading you both out into the hallway. "just be cordial," he spoke quietly, handing coming to rest on your lower back as he ushered you down the steps and to the kitchen where smurf and a few others stood, her eyes immediately landing on your daughter. it was like every hair on your body stood up at the sight of her, still as eerie as ever. "there's my chunky monkey," smurf cooed to sunny, andrew pulling you gently closer to his side, pulling your daughter back a little as smurf tried to reach for her. "don't do that pope," his mother mumbled, trying to reach for your daughter again, and again he pulled her back. it made your heart warm at him protecting not only his daughter, but you from his mother. "she doesn't like strangers," he finally spoke, sunny's chubby face burying into pope's neck, his hand rubbing gently circles on your back. "i wouldn't be a stranger if someone would bring her around," she spoke with a fake smile, turning to eye you up and down before noticing her son's hand on you.
"you two back together?" she all but laughed, an eyebrow raised as her arms crossed over her chest. it made you let out a snicker, leaning in to andrew a little more. you knew the sight of any of her son's with women irritated her, but the sight of her precious pope with you drove her mad. "and if we are?" you challenged back, your daughter making grabby hands to you. "fine with me. guess ill see my baby more then," she spoke through a gritted smile, pinching sonny's cheek not hard enough to hurt her but hard enough to confuse the baby. you were quick to take your daughter back into your arms, moving past smurf and towards the party that was going on in the back. you could hear the two bickering quietly as you walked away, pope shushing her before he was back at your side, hand returning to its spot on your back. "trying to get on my good side, andrew?" you asked quietly, him leading you to a shady spot. he just blushed a little with a small nod, taking sunny from your arms. "go mingle. swim," he spoke, grabbing the sun lotion before setting your daughter onto a chair, beginning to lather her up.
you couldn't help but stand and admire him for a moment and how your daughter smiled up at him so adoringly. yeah you definitely needed your family back. he would glance over at your every so often from the corner of his eyes, waiting for you to rid the shirt so he could get a glimpse at your body he dreamed about since the day you two first met. you scanned the party a little, finally taking a deep breath before ridding yourself of the large shirt. you felt self conscious for a moment, looking down at your body. of course you still carried some weight from your pregnancy but it was just a constant reminder that it gave you your beautiful daughter. "god you look so good," pope mumbled from behind you, your daughter now in his arms as he looked you up and down. you couldn't help but smile, a blush creeping up on your cheeks. "gonna swim with me?" you asked him softly, raising an eyebrow up at him. he didn't usually enjoy getting into the pool at these parties, would rather just sit and drink on the side. how could he say no with you looking like that?
he hesitated for a moment, continuing to admire you before passing your daughter back so he could slip his own shirt off. "don't look to bad yourself," you mumbled with a smile, your bottom lip going between your teeth. you could see smurf out of the corner of your eye watching the two of you, pretending to be involved in a conversation with some people. he just shook his head, grabbing your hand gently to lead you to the steps of the pool. he walked right in with ease, turning to look up at you where you stood with your daughter. you slowly made your way in, sunny squealing loudly as the warm water hit her legs. you laughed as you dipped down a little, the water up to your chest and hers. pope moved closer so he was in front of the two of you now, splashing a little bit of water which caused her to squeal even louder. "daddy is so silly," you spoke softly, pope's lips immediately curving into a slight smirk. "will never get tired of hearing you call me that," he spoke quietly to you, causing you to roll your eyes playfully at him.
that's how the two of you stayed for a while, splashing in the pool with your daughter with quiet back and forth flirting. you could tell she was getting tired, her head resting on your shoulder while her eyes tried to fight closing. "let me take her inside for a little yeah? ill sit with her im too hot right now," deran, who had made his way over a while ago to catch up with you. you had always been closest to him out of his brothers, staying connected for a while after you gave birth before smurf got after him about talking to you still. you glanced over at pope who was already shaking his head, but you were tired and never got a minute alone with him. "it's fine, andrew. just dry her off a little then take her in, yeah?" you spoke softly to his younger brother, slowly handing your daughter over to him. you watched as the dirty blonde climbed from the pool and did what you said, drying sunny off before carrying her now sleeping self inside.
you were knocked out of your trance by two large arms sneaking around your waist, pulling you back into him. "10 minutes and we go inside, yeah?" he mumbled in your ear, the anxiety radiating off of him. "it's fine. he will come get us if she wakes up or he doesn't want to watch anymore," you spoke, head resting back onto his shoulder. you missed being flaunted around and touched by him. the few times he would come to your house, of course he would always plant a kiss on your head or give you a quick hug before leaving. never anything more. "i miss you yknow," he mumbled in your ear as he continued to hold you in the water, a small kiss being pressed to your ear. a small sigh left your lips as you closed your eyes, trying to find the words to say to him. your eyes were quick to shoot open at the sound of your daughter screaming.
you weren't sure how you moved out of the water so fast, pope passing you quickly as you both ran inside the house soaking wet. it felt like your heart fell out of your ass at the sight in front of you. there stood smurf holding your now awake and screaming daughter, the older woman rocking and hushing her. "what the fuck are you doing," you spat angrily, ripping sunny from your arms and splashing water everywhere. "she was getting fussy and deran doesn't know how to calm a baby. was just getting her back to sleep," she laughed, deran stood scratching the back of his neck as he looked at the both of you. you could feel the blood boiling, andrew immediately going off on his younger brother. "she just grabbed her while she was sleeping," you could hear deran mumble to his brother, smurf shooting him a death glare. you couldn't help but scoff, immediately walking in the direction of pope's bedroom where all of your things were.
you were about to slam the door behind you when he caught it, closing it behind him as your daughter continued to scream and cry. "what are you doing?" he asked, watching as you laid her on the bed and began to dig through everything looking for your bags. your ears were ringing, eyes burning, and hair sopping wet and dripping all over his bedroom. "we are going home. i knew this was a bad idea. you know i dont want her around my daughter," you hissed at him, finally finding your bags. of course, you left your shirt down by the pool. it wasn't his fault that smurf got her hands on sunny, he was outside enjoying you after all. he was just close enough to be at the receiving end of your anger. "our daughter," he corrected, "i told you not to give her to deran," he shot back, moving to pick your daughter up and hold her close while trying to soothe her. "it doesn't matter! i don't want her around that woman ever! this could work if we wouldn't have to be around her!" you were yelling now, digging through his dresser to finally find shirt to cover yourself up with.
it broke your heart as your daughter cried more from your yelling. you and pope had never fought when you were together until the moment you broke up and it was explosive enough to have you hyperventilating as he cried and begged you not to leave. "give her to me," you muttered, throwing your bag over your shoulder as you held your hands out to him. you could feel the tears falling from your eyes as he pressed a long kiss to the side of her now red face, hesitantly placing her in your arms. "never again will i be here," you muttered, pushing past him to make your way to the front door, pope hot on your tail and still dripping wet. "real good mother you are. yelling in front of her and taking her from her dad," smurf spoke from where she sat on the couch, both you and pope's heads snapping to look at her. "you've done worse in front of your children," you spat back with an almost evil laugh, walking straight out to your car. "go back inside and console mommy, pope," you continued to laugh back at your child's father as he followed, half a step behind you.
the angry tears continued to stream down your face as you buckled your screaming child into her seat, moving to get into the driver's seat. you were just about to slam the door in pope's face when he stepped between your seat and the door. "move, andrew," you mumbled, trying your hardest to not totally break down in front of him. he didn't say anything, just reached forward to wipe the tears from your face. "you aren't driving our daughter home like this," he mumbled, a sob now leaving your lips. "you did this," you hissed between your cries, swatting his hands away from your face. "all you had to do was distance yourself from her and you couldn't! you just have to be there for me and sunny and you can't without listening to her telling you how im alienating you from her! i have given you so many chances!" you continued to sob, face now red from crying and yelling.
he couldn't say anything, he didn't know what to say as he watched you cry. it just brought him back to the night you left him, your face looking the exact same and his heart breaking all over again. he did everything he could over these past two years to get closer to you and get his family back, and now it was being flushed down the toilet right in front of his eyes. he grunted as you pushed him back and slammed the door shut in his face, starting your car before driving off. he was silent, fists clenched tightly at his sides as he watched your car turn off his street. he stood there for a few moments, hoping you would have a change of heart, hoping you would turn around, but it never came. he knows what he has to do.
pt. 4 of baby daddy!pope and trying to keep his family together!!!
the sun was already peeking through the curtains when you woke up that morning, head pounding from the nonstop crying you did the day before. it took a minute to register where you were. sunny laid sleeping next to you, curled up in the blanket of your bed. pope moved you up here. it was only you two in there though, no pope in sight. did he leave already? carefully climbing out of bed, you tucked the blanket over sunny before grabbing your phone and baby monitor. no texts or calls from him. the smell of coffee instantly filled your nose once you stepped into the hallway, your eyebrows furrowing in confusion as you began to make your way down the stairs to your kitchen. it felt like the wind got knocked out of you at the sight stood in front of the stove. pope's bare back was to you, freckles littering his tanned skin. he had definitely showered, his hair damp and pushed back. "what are you doing?" you spoke, voice rough and groggy as you stepped in to peek around him to see what he was doing.
he turned his head slightly to you before back to the pancakes he was making. "making breakfast. there's coffee ready. why did you sleep on the couch?" he spoke with a raised eyebrow, turning to watch you make yourself a cup of coffee. it was only 7:00 in the morning, why was he up so early. you just leaned back against the counter as you watched him, sipping every so often at the mug in your hands. "why are you up so early?" you questioned, ignoring his question as you moved to the sink to wash some of the dishes he had dirtied. he was quiet. you could tell just by the expression on his face that he was trying to think how to tell you he had to go. "unbelievable," you mumbled, turning back to wash the dishes. "i will only be gone an hour max. just need to get some more stuff from smurf's. i won't tell her i am staying here though i'm sure she has already figured that out," he spoke, setting the plate stacked with pancakes on the counter before moving to stand behind you at the sink. you could feel his hands hovering over your hips, hesitating to touch you before his body gave in and he grabbed your hips gently.
it made you melt but you were quick to push that down at the sound of smurf's name. "you're not even going to wait for your daughter to wake up?" you mumbled again, drying some of the dishes before moving away from him to start getting plates out for breakfast. "i am going to wait till she is up, yes. again, will only be gone for an hour, i promise," he spoke, hand reaching to rub your side gently as you began to plate the pancakes for the two of you, setting one off to the side for your daughter. it was hard not to fold with his hands on you. when you were still together he always had to have a hand on you. touching your back, holding your hand, playing with your hair. "stop touching me, andy. just because you live here does not mean we are together," you sighed, starting to hear your daughter talking to herself in the baby monitor. he couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle, grabbing the baby monitor before you could as he made his way towards the stairs. "andy? been a while since i heard that. i must be getting closer then," he winked, which only caused you to smile and blush as he went up to get your daughter. as much as you wanted to give in and let him love on you, you had to set your boundaries. you had to let him know you were serious.
you ate slowly, the smile still on your face as you heard pope talking with your daughter as he changed her before they both made their way down the stairs. "tell your mommy she looks beautiful," he murmured softly in your daughter's ear as he put her in her booster chair, leaving a soft kiss on the top of her head as he moved to grab her plate from the counter. she had spoke at an attempt at the word 'beautiful', giggling as it made you laugh. "you're so beautiful, sunny girl," you cooed, eyes drifting to where pope stood cutting up the pancakes for her. god he always looked so good in the morning. he caught you staring as he set the plate in front of your daughter, shooting a wink your way before taking a seat on the other side of your daughter that had a blush creeping across your cheeks. "when are you leaving?" you spoke, swallowing your final bite of food before getting up to put the dish in the sink. "i will wait till she is done eating," he said, hand reaching to push some of the curls from sunny's forehead. all you could do was hum in response, nodding a little as you began to clean up the kitchen. it still irritated you to no end that he was leaving, going back to the place you wish you could forbid him from forever.
he could practically feel your annoyance from across the room, planting a kiss on the little girl's head before coming to stand across from you in the kitchen. "i promise it's only an hour," he spoke, finger reaching to poke your side as you washed the dishes. "i have heard that before. one hour. then one hour turns to two hours, then three, then four," you spoke, getting quieter the longer you went on. all he could do was sigh, nodding a little. you wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, wanted to trust his word, but your trust wasn't fully there yet. "when i get back, let's go do something. you can't stay cooped up in the house all the time," he suggested, grabbing sunny's plate once she had finished. all you could do was shrug, pulling sunny from her chair to clean up her face. "yeah we will see," you mumbled, moving past him to take her back upstairs to the bathroom so you could clean her. you could feel a headache creeping up just from the thought of him not coming back as you started the bath, your daughter sat next to you on the bathroom floor.
you hadn't even heard him come in behind you, fully dressed but without his bag. if he wasn't going to come back he would have taken his bag. "i'll be back soon," he spoke, reaching down to pick sunny up and press kisses all over her bare tummy as she squealed loudly. you didn't even turn to face him as he sat sunny back down, his large hand coming to rub a piece of your hair that was sticking up back down. you just hummed in acknowledgement, pope pressing a kiss to the top of your head. "one hour, andrew," you mumbled when he had finally pulled back, moving to set your daughter in the little seat in the bath tub. "one hour," he confirmed, hand stroking your hair again before he made his way out of the bathroom. "don't get your hopes up," you kept mumbling to yourself as you bathed her, trying not to have a high expectation that he would be back when you had asked him.
pope on the other hand was determined to prove you wrong. prove he could listen to you, and be there for you and your daughter. as soon as he stepped into smurf's house, he was already irritated. there in the living room sat his brothers and mother, all of them turning to look at him. "done playing pretend? we have shit to get done today," smurf spoke, pope shaking his head as he began to make his way to his room. "i'm not in for today," he called back to them, shutting his door behind him once he was in his room. he could hear his family speaking from the living room, but he only drowned it out as he began to load his bags with all of his clothes. he refused to turn around as he heard his bedroom door open, continuing to stuff everything into his suitcases. "you moving in with her?" smurf spoke from behind him, moving to now sit on his bed as she eyed all of his bags filled with clothes. "got my own place," he shot back, barely audible. he watched as she moved to grab the photos off his bedside table of you and sunny, a snicker leaving her lips. "you think you are capable of being a full time father? you have barely spent any time with her. you weren't allowed to spend any time with her," she egged him on, pope reaching to snatch the photos from her hands before shoving them in his bag. he continued to stay quiet, knowing he would probably explode if he said anything else.
"how are you going to make money? you both gonna live off her waitress paycheck?" she snorted, seeing how her words were getting to her son. you worked nights most of the time, sunny staying with your sister before you would be back to pick her up in the late evening. pope hated you working there. hated that they treated you terrible, hated that they underpaid you, hated the men that would flirt with you thinking they would ever have a chance. "i have money. don't worry about me. and don't talk about her," he hissed finally, a finger pointing in his mother's face. she couldn't help but laugh again, slapping his finger out of her face. "you are pathetic. don't come crying back here when she kicks your ass to the curb. she wants money, not you andrew," smurf stood, looking him up and down before moving out of the room. all he wanted to do was grab her by the back of her head and slam her to the ground, but he knew his brothers would be up there and on him before he could do too much damage. he couldn't do that to your and your daughter.
you hadn't stopped checking your phone since he left, counting down the hour to see if he would live up to his word. the anxiety filled you the closer and closer it got to being the end of the hour. you forced yourself to go out into the front, you and your daughter sat on the sidewalk fumbling with chalk as the lawn guy you hired mowed your yard. you needed as many distractions as possible to keep your mind from the inevitable. when your hour timer finally ran out and you didn't see pope, your heart broke a little. maybe timing him wasn't the healthiest thing, but you didn't care. you felt your eyes began to water as you sat watching your daughter scribble on the sidewalk, trying to sneakily stick the chalk in her mouth before you would snatch it away. you had zoned out at this point, a hundred thoughts going through your mind but one stuck out more than the others.
andrew cody couldn't keep a promise even if his life depended on it.

Back in the day in the little town of Smallville, nothing but childish games, laughter, and running through the fields during summer mattered. When you visited your aunt’s house for the summer, befriending the shy little boy across the way, who always offered you his coolest toys and helped you climb trees. Back then, nothing could break the inseparable bond you both had, despite not seeing each other for months at a time.
Every time he knew you were coming back to Smallville, Ma Kent helped him put together a little bouquet for you. He’d jog—or maybe dash like a blur—over to your aunt's home. He’d say hi to the old border collie, whose fur around the eyes was only getting grayer and grayer by the day. Then, he knocked on the front door, holding the pretty flowers to his chest hopefully. His advanced eyes would focus on the pollen-filled air as he gave a big smile, his front tooth missing and big blue eyes eager to play. When your aunt answered the door, she grinned. “What do I owe you for this pleasure?” she asked, a warm laugh bubbling from her chest as she stepped aside to let him in. “Is she here? Can she play?” Clark asked excitedly, holding the flowers out to your aunt. “I brought these for her; Ma helped me make them!” Your aunt's heart melted at this eager little boy, giving him a nod. “In her room.”
The summer stayed like that. Where you’d sneak into his room after you’d been strictly told not to, making shadow puppets with a flashlight; sometimes he’d even bring you on a small fly. Of course you knew about his powers; you were his best friend. His favorite friend. You’d cling to his back as he flew into the trees, listening to you giggle as the birds scattered away from their perches.
At least, summer stayed like that until you both hit freshman year of high school, when you moved away from Kansas to a bigger city with more opportunities. No more 3-hour car rides down to the farm. It was the end of a lifelong era. Saying goodbye to everything you’d ever known, Kansas was a big difference compared to Metropolis. Everything there was frozen in time—at least in your mind. Clark would still be the same scrawny kid, with big blue eyes and nerdy. Someone who faded into the background.
Life went on.
Clark thought about you a lot, but the letters between you started to fizzle as you both grew into different people. He was the nerdier type, not a lot of friends, but that was nothing new to you. You prospered in the city, finding solace in socializing, babysitting events, and trying new things around the city. Like the world was your oyster. In many ways it was.
He still saw your aunt a lot; Ma and her had kept in touch, having dinner together once a week. Clark was still deciding his future, where he should go, studying at a nearby university as he helped do all the farm work at home. He’d ask about you sometimes, only to get vague, unfulfilling answers.
In the comfort of your own room after long days of studying and working, you’d let your mind wander to him. Wonder about what he was doing. Had he picked up on journalism? Writing? Astronomy? He could do anything if he really set his mind to it.
After long semesters of studying, your parents surprised you with a trip to your aunts for the summer. Ditch the city life and hang out in the quiet for 3 months; allow your brain to relax.
You stepped out of the car, stretching your legs after the 2-hour car ride from the airport to the farmhouse. You took in a deep breath as you stretched your arms above your head, the sweet smell of freshly cut grass and flowers, and then the unavoidable tinge of cow manure blowing in the wind. Your uncle grabbed your suitcase from the trunk, your thick tote bag slung over your shoulder as you walked up the creaky steps.
Everything was just as you suspected—frozen in time. The mailbox had a small lean to it, the old dog sleeping on the porch, dwindling to his last year or so. The porch paint was peeling, but the house was well painted. Your uncle had hurt his back, so you wondered who did it. “Looks good…” You comment, stepping in and slipping off your shoes. Your aunt gives small thanks as she wraps you in a tight hug. “Thank you, been getting some help on the farm. Polishing it. I miss you,” she said, pressing her face into your hair before releasing you. “Your room is the same. Go freshen up; we have dinner at the Kents tonight,” she said, arms crossed.
You couldn’t help but perk up at the last name, the idea of Clark flashing your mind before you could stop it, and your aunt gave a knowing smile. “Yes, Clark is there. He’s still studying, helping Jonathan out since his back's starting to get like your uncles. We didn’t tell him you were coming.” The proud smirk on her face gave you all you needed to know. They had been planning this for weeks, keeping it just hush enough to dodge his superhearing.
So you freshened up, excited to see your forever friend. You milled over the minor details, wondering if his hair was still dark and if his eyes were still bright. Then you wondered if he still looked through his telescope every night or if he spent his nights flying among the stars when he couldn’t sleep. The image you had of him was meek, still imagining the sweet and shy Clark Kent who needed a night light to sleep even though he had ten times the strength of an average man.
You wore a pretty spring dress that went to your mid-thigh, one that showed off your smooth skin, showing old birthmarks you used to cover. Wherever they might be. You wore your hair nice and simple, making sure to do some light make-up before stepping down into the mudroom of the house. You held a casserole in a blue dish with a top lid, waiting for your aunt to be ready.
The wait got too boring, so you went for the door. “I’m gonna start walking over!” you yelled, stepping out onto the familiar path that led up to the Kents' house. Your cowgirl boots crunched in the gravel beneath your feet as you watched the sun start to dip in the sky. It was your favorite walk, a short 5 minutes but beautiful. Unless you were in hot weather—then it was miserable. Tonight was nice, slowly cooling down.
You walked up the dirt path, hearing two voices discussing a car's engine, one you recognized as Pa Kent, and the other… well, you weren’t sure. It was deeper, soft and reassuring. Soothing. Pa Kent was under the car, and a tall man was standing, holding the car with one hand like it was nothing, his tight t-shirt doing nothing to conceal the strain of his bicep in the fabric. It made you dizzy when you noticed it. You could see the print of his abs through his shirt, his shoulders bulky, making him all the more a local beefy Kansan. He was tall, nearly casting a shadow. It wasn’t until he quickly turned his head to look at you that you realized who this boy—no, man—was.
You saw the thick, silky black head of hair, curled and wild on his head. The laughter bubbling from his chest at his father's rambling. Lethally blue eyes, ones that displayed every emotion inside them.
Clark Kent was standing in front of you with the piercing blue eyes, making your stomach turn into knots as you tried to keep your jaw off the floor and the casserole in your arms all at once. He wasn’t scrawny or loser-ish. He was handsome. Alluring. Hot. When had this happened? It was making your head spin, your heart stutter, and his super hearing picked up on every miscalculated beat.
“Golly, long time no see!” he exclaimed, the excitement flooding his tone like it used to. Clark still had that sweet boy deep in there. The big puppy Kansas boy overflowed from his big heart that was being protected by his massive pecs—maybe that’s what they were for. To protect his big heart. “Hi…” You say shyly, watching his eyes run over you. Were you drooling?
He couldn’t imagine you looking this good; he knew you were pretty, but he was just taking guesses at what he remembered. Clark remembered your sparkling eyes and big smile, but now you were everything he had imagined and more. A dream in front of him. Pa made a grunt of irritation as Clark was slowly lowering the car, too distracted by you to remember what he was doing. “Son.” Clark did not answer, the car lowering another inch. “Clark!” Jonathan reminds. “Oh!” You gave a small giggle as Clark raised it again.
“Sorry, Pa. Can we do this after dinner?” His dad stood up slowly with a grunt and raised a weary eyebrow. “I won’t be able to see later.” Clark gave a quick reply, “I can see in the dark, Pa.” The older man shrugged, shaking his head and grinning at you. Jonathan pulled you into one of his familiar bear hugs before heading inside. Some people just seemed to be immune to time.
You heard the thud of the old truck hitting the ground again, and before you could blink, Clark quickly took the hot casserole dish away from you, talking away as he went inside. He told you all about what you’d missed. Or he tried. It had been four years after all. Clark wasn’t very shy anymore, or maybe he was just eager for your attention after being away from you for so long. This was going to be a long summer. That’s for sure.
Dinner was filled with familial chatter, old friends catching up. They told you embarrassing stories of Clark, watching his cheeks burn red. You watched as his forearms flexed as his knife glided through the baked potato on his plate. How his Ma told a corny joke, and he still threw his head back in laughter. How focused his eyes were, sweet with a pleading undertone when he asked for the salt, or the vegetables. You've got to tell your city stories, about all the chaos that contrasted the Kansas tranquility.
The night ended with a blackberry pie and vanilla ice cream that everyone ate too much of. Clark was first to thank his mother for the food, his hands in his lap and grinning. His dimples were working overtime, and you felt your stomach tingle. Had he always had dimples? Surely they had just appeared out of nowhere…
—------------------------------
The summer was filled with much fun, and you and Clark’s prospering friendship. You guys spent hours together, walking your old stomping grounds like no time had passed at all. He still stole vegetables off your plate, called you nicknames, and tugged on your braids gently. Clark was gentlemanly too. Fixing your necklace for you, helped you rebraid your hair, unaware how it made your gut stir and flustered you.
How could he be so attractive and sweet all at once? You just wanted to repay him in… inappropriate ways. Clark just kept flirting like it was nothing, and he was oblivious to how his southern drawl and kind smile could make anyone weak in the knees.
Dinners at the Kents’ led to bonfires that Clark conjured up with his… heat vision? He said he was working on the names for all of it; you giggled, watching him gently blow on the fire to get the flame crackling in the pit. “So, Clark. Besides school, what have you been up to?” you asked, watching him set logs into the pit, little pieces of saved newspaper in the bottom. He shrugged, looking up at you from his spot on the ground. “Helping Pa on the farm, exploring. I’ve been writing too! I flew up to Africa, kinda exploring their roots and connecting with their heritage,” he explained, totally nerding out.
You watched as he talked with his hands, getting distracted from the fire that had now sputtered out. His lower lip jutted out in a pout, and you giggled, making a smile break loose on his face. He just couldn’t help it when it came to you. “Very admirable, Clark,” you said. Your praise made him straighten and smile.
Clark noticed a change not long after that. Suddenly, he found himself fixing his hair before coming to your place. The other day, he had struggled for ten minutes alone to pick a shirt. This had never happened before! Sure, he had crushes, big ones even. But this one was different; he felt the need to impress you, be bold. Oblivious to how you were already drooling over how he looked.
Every time you smiled or laughed, he felt the air get kicked from his lungs. He felt his stomach twist in knots every time you wore a pretty dress. Clark had also remembered you with dirty knees and missing teeth, and to see you dancing by the fire to an old country song, or licking the batter of a spatula in the kitchen with his Ma, he felt warm. Different.
He looked up from milking the cows, his eyes landing on you through the big window over the kitchen sink. Clark saw his mother, then you. The whole conversation buzzing in his ears. Martha saw you look out the window, and she had seen Clark look at you across the dinner table a thousand times now. “Funny, isn’t it?” Martha asked, turning to look at you lick the spatula again. The dough melting into your tongue. Your head tilted to the side and your nose scrunched in confusion—the motion reminded Clark of a bunny, and it made his heart warm upon seeing it. “Growing up, I mean.” You looked at Martha, then out the window at Clark, who quickly pretended to be milking the cows. You understood what she meant, giving her a nod and then a knowing smile. Martha returned it, kissing your cheek and heading to the porch.
It wasn’t long before you and Clark were in tune with each other’s bodies again. It was like you knew when he entered the room, and he could pick out your heartbeat again. It was a little quicker than it used to be when you were kids. You looked at each other when laughing, and late nights were spent in your quilts as you told stories like you were kids. Some nights it was down by the pond, the moonlight bathing it.
“Jump in with me, Clark,” you begged, eyes big and sweet. He hesitated, tilting his head. Gosh, he was so cute. “It’s cold, and we don’t have any clothes,” Clark replied, rubbing the back of his neck, his arm stretching and showing his muscle. “It’s not cold! You're immune to cold, aren’t you? Just get in!” You said, not giving him a chance to protest as you wiggled out of your jean shirts, jumping off the creaky dock in your oversized t-shirt and silly polka dot underwear. Before he could think any better, he was tugging his shirt off, letting his jeans fall to the ground as he jumped in, clad in only his boxers. The quick glimpse you got of his abs (and the hard-to-ignore imprint through the fabric) was enough to make the cold water worth it.
That night you stumbled into your aunt's kitchen, giggling like school kids again. You popped open a bottle of wine; Clark just watched as you brought it to your lips, soaking all over the kitchen floor. He couldn’t bring his eyes off of you as you swayed, humming along to your own tune. The giggle was the sound of your soul, and maybe his too.
All this time with you made him realize just how much he liked you. And now, with the wet t-shirt sticking to your skin, your hair damp over your face, and getting tipsier by the second, he pressed his lips to yours. He laughed against your mouth as you hummed into the kiss. Your body was electric, as you had been waiting for the moment. His overgrown stubble was brushing your slick skin.
Maybe this is what dreams were made of.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for a while…” You whispered into the kiss, pressing the wine to your lips again. You offered it to him, and he shook his head. His hands finally reached your hips, firm yet gentle palms keeping you in place. His back leaned on the counter, looking down at your smug smirk. He was enamoured by your drunk smile. The alcohol hadn’t hit your system yet, just drunk on the kiss alone. “Would you believe me if I said I had been too?” he asked, eyes full of adoration as he searched your eyes. A grin spread across your lips, shaking your head. “No, you’re so nice to everyone, and you always have that dopey look in your eyes. I thought I was just another girl…” You admit, taking a final gulp from the big bottle.
Clark takes it from you, setting it on the counter behind him. He tugged you in, leaning in closer to your lips. His eyes flicked down to them, licking his own lips as he prepared for another kiss. “And the whole time I was just wondering when you got so good-looking… and how you could be so devastatingly hot and be so oblivious to it!” He closed his eyes, wishing his lips were on yours instead. “I was in turmoil too, scared to feel these things about my best friend. Couldn’t stand how pretty you were,” he admits. A small kiss to your lips, before diving in for another.
You let your hands roam his skin, the abs on his stomach that you had been dreaming about for weeks. You felt the undeniable outline of his excitement for you under his wet boxers. His hands were pulling up your wet shirt, tossing it somewhere into the kitchen. Your heartbeat was the only thing in his ear, other than your whiny noises of desperation.
The familiar scent of your sweet arousal washed over his senses, everything in his mind clicking. For weeks he had been smelling it, mistaking the rich smell for your perfume. It had been your telltale sign of how turned on you were. Now he realized how you were wet, watching him do mundane tasks around the farm or his subtle attempts at flirting. “Oh, sweetheart,” he moans into the kiss, your lips leaving no mercy.
“Smell so good…” he adds, opening his eyes to take in your everyday bra and those polka-dot underwear. Had you known you were gonna get laid, maybe you’d picked something different. But now it didn’t matter. “Smell?” you ask, raising an eyebrow as you move your lips to his neck, the tough Kryptonian skin taking no damage as you sucked and kiss. “I can smell you… when you’re aroused,” Clark whispered. His hand went to your hair, tugging you away from his skin.
Your face flushed, and you gave a guilty grin. “I wish I was more embarrassed than I am right now…” You mumble, unhooking your bra, letting him take in your breasts, how they sit on your chest without the confines of your bra. He was getting harder and harder by the second. “No need to be embarrassed. It’s sweet; thought it was your perfume.” His eyes devour you like you're something ethereal, a higher being.
He picked you, pressing his hard-on against your throbbing cunt. It fluttered at the idea of taking his alien dick. You could feel the heft of it, and his thick, beefy thighs against yours. “I need you…” You begged, hands grasping at his sloppy curls. “In your aunt's kitchen?” he asked, apprehensive at first as he slowly lowered you to the ground. The tile was cold on the skin of your back, making you gasp. The alcohol was catching up to your system, making your stomach warm and bubbly. You nodded quickly, “Full circle…”
That made him laugh, shaking his head as he hooked his fingers onto your panties, tugging them down and allowing the cold air to hit your pussy. His boxers were next to leave before he grabbed your hips, the hard floor the last thing on your mind as you took in his length. 10 inches with a thick base, precum leaked at the tip, and he throbbed from how hard he was. Everything about him was big as you had expected. In the mornings, you had tried not to peek as he bulged through his sweatpants in the mornings, trying to hide it with blankets or pillows.
Soon he was pushing into you, skin to skin as he took you on your aunt’s kitchen floor, not caring about the risks. Right now it was just you and him in the moment. You squeezed tight as he glided into you, the stretch making you cry out—you’ve never taken something so big. Even toys didn’t compare to this. Tears pricked your eyes as your wet folds accepted him greedily, your stomach bulging with his size. Small gasps and moans slipped from your lips, sounding like heaven.
When he bottomed out, he caged you with his arms, each hand on either side of your head. Clark paused. Your breathing mingled, and his chest heaved. “Please… Tell me how good I’m doing,” he whined. You clenched around him in surprise, but somehow more aroused at the thought. This big, broad-shouldered man needed to be praised for being the good boy he is. Just a puppy at heart. “You're doing so good, baby. Move your hips for me,” you insist, throwing your head back as he gave a slow thrust. You felt every good spot inside you being hit by his massive dick.
A whine broke free from his lips, surprising you again. Clark started to rut into you like a dog in heat, each roll of his hips even greedier than the last as he took in your sweet praise like music to his ears. He can’t believe he’s finally living out his wet dreams with you. “O… Oh! Clark! Right there, please! Such a good boy, filling me up better than anybody!” Another broken whine broke from his lips as he continued to drag his cock in and out of you, occasionally dipping his head down to take your nipple into his mouth.
He nudged the sweet spot inside you, repeatedly as slurred words of appreciation slide from your mouth. Your sweaty bodies move against each other, your hips starting to move with the rhythm of his as he tries to find your sweet spot. “Feel good?” he rasped, reaching a hand down to rub your sensitive clit, your pussy sensitive and puffy from how he was bullying it. You nodded, a quiet moan slipping from your lips as he buries himself in you before pulling almost all the way out, crashing back in again.
Your eyes roll back as he rubs circles into your bundle of nerves, feeling you clench around him. “That feels so good, Clark! Please, harder!” You insist, forgetting to keep your voice down. His hips begin to move faster, the slap of skin on skin filling the kitchen. It wasn’t long before you were going over the edge, your orgasm crashing over you, making your body shake as he continued to bully that spot, his lips catching your moans. His stomach burned with the familiar bubbling feeling, knowing his orgasm was approaching rapidly.
“Where do you want it?” Clark asked, trying not to spill inside you from how hard your clenching him, your fluids building a ring around the base of his cock. You bumble incoherent words before blurting, “Stomach!”
Quickly, he pulled out, his cum shooting over your stomach, even your breasts, breathy moans escaping him. It just kept coming; you hadn’t ever seen someone cum so much. He was a mess above you, his hair messed up, his tip leaking with the aftermath, and sweat on his temple. Clark was the most beautiful man you had ever seen, so impossibly human and vulnerable. Even when he wasn’t human.
“Oh thank you, baby,” he whispered, your name following as he ducked down and gave you a kiss. Clark gathered your clothes, then you from the kitchen floor before starting the tub inside your small bathroom in your room. Where you laid against his chest as he ran a hot soapy rag over your body. The wine sat warm in your belly, and your legs were a perfect amount of shaky from the results of you and Clark’s love making. “Who knew all it took was a night swim?”
You shook your head slowly, a small giggle bubbling from your lips. “It was more than that and you know it. Your irresistible,” you teased, closing your eyes as you leaned back. Clark shook his head, a blush creeping up his ears. The hot water steamed from your skin, and the bubbles were up to your chin. He spent the next 20 minutes drying you, rubbing lotion on your body, then tucking you into his chest as you packed his 6’4” and 240 pound frame on your full bed, your face buried in the crevices of his chest.
The next morning it was painfully obvious what you had done to both your families. You were both more touchy, the looks lingered, and your walk was a bit off-kilter despite your efforts to hide it. Martha and Jonathan of course gave him a firm talking to about the consequences and all that stuff, making him protest and squim in his seat.
It wasn’t long before he was packing up his stuf to move to Metropolis with you—beginning his Superman debut, his reporter job and his first big relationship with you.
in which jack abbot is the first to notice the wallflower resident of the ER.
summary; reader has always been used to being left behind, and eventually stopped trying to make space for themselves. she doesn't think anyone notices her, until jack abbot starts paying attention.

i might make a part two of this tbh but i wont label it as a series bc then my brain will start procastinating and i'll lose all motivation to write it LOL
The noise of the ER buzzed around you. The muscles in your neck ached, begging to be stretched and massaged. One of your hands came up to gently rub on your neck, the other slowly typing out the chart of your latest patient.
Some of the interns were huddled together, giggling to each other about something. It had become a habit of yours to listen in on them— on whatever gossip they had going on this time. Sometimes, you liked to pretend that you were part of it. That you got to gossip with friends just like they do.
That'd never been the case for you. In your intern year, you were the only one. Already feeling alienated, you struggled to find your place in the ER. Everyone seemed to already know who they were, aside from you.
For a while, you tried. You tried to include yourself. You joined the others when they went for a beer after a heavy shift. But as time went on, you didn't feel any closer to belonging. It didn't feel like anyone was making room for you either. So, you stopped showing up. And no one said anything.
Now, you just worked. You took all the patients no one else wanted. You stayed a little later to make sure another coworker could get home on time. You helped in traumas, then slipped away as soon as it was done.
This routine worked. It'd been your routine for years now. It wasn't that you were a bad doctor, no. You just didn't fit in.
A small wince covered your features as you rubbed your neck again. You truly couldn't wait to get off shift, and go home. You know your cat must already be sitting on the kitchen counter, waiting for the sight of you walking through the door.
"Nice catch, earlier." You heard a gruff voice behind you— one you recognized as your attending, Jack Abbot. Being the eavesdropper you are, you waited to hear the response of the person he was complimenting. You wondered if they'd be humble or gleeful. You know that if you were complimented like that, you'd be over the moon.
The light of the monitor made your eyes burn a little, but you just had to push through this last chart.
Then, you felt a hand tap your shoulder.
"Kid?" Dr. Abbot hummed, looking down at you, the corner of his lips quirking into a small smile. "Did'ya hear me?"
Your eyes go wide, and you swear you can feel your heart jumping up into your throat, making your breath hitch. He was talking to you. No one ever bothered talking to you, not if it wasn't necessary.
"I— er- sorry, what did you say, Dr. Abbot?" You cleared your throat, trying to get your heart to return to a normal pace, the chart all forgotten now.
He watched you for a moment, his gaze softening from playful to a more gentle one. "I said..." His hands gripped both ends of his stethoscope, the one he always had around his neck, "Good catch earlier. With the silent heart attack patient. Not many of us could've caught that."
The apples of your cheeks shifted into a deep red color, your eyes darting from him to your keyboard, then to your water bottle, the floor, keyboard, him...
"Oh- um, yeah, thank you, sir." You nodded in response, already mentally degrading yourself for being so awkward. This is your attending, for gods sake. You should be professional.
But that easy grin rested on his face, and he nodded. "Oh, sure, kid. You're one hell of a doctor. Keep it up." He gently squeezed your shoulder, and walked off. And that was that. He complimented you like it was nothing.
That simple compliment swam in your head the entire day. It made you smile as you prepared your lunch for work at home that evening. It made you hum with content as you settled into bed, curtains drawn shut to hide the rising sun.
Good catch earlier.
It started happening more and more. Abbot would pull you into traumas with him, let you take the lead on them, and then give you a small compliment, and one of those warm smiles. He'd linger when you charted, always trying to spark up small talk.
You never came out of your shell, though. It was driving him insane. He tried everything. But you always shut it down and got back to work. For a while, he thought you might just dislike him. But he could see the small smiles you gave him, and the pink tint in your cheeks at his compliments.
So, he tried asking the other residents about you. Imagine his shock when no one knew anything about you. Everyone just responded off-handedly.
'Oh, Y/N? Yeah, she's a quiet one. Dunno much about her.'
'Y/N? Great doctor. Haven't talked to her much.'
'Saw her a few times in her first year of residency. Then she stopped coming out.'
No one knew anything. That's what made Jack perk up a little more. He tried to subtly keep notes on you throughout the day. See who you spoke to. If maybe you left with someone. Maybe discussed patients. But he got nothing.
You were all alone.
The last straw was when he spotted you slipping into the abandoned wing of the hospital, settling yourself on the dusty staircase, and opening your lunchbox. You even hid away to eat.
He had to fix that.
So, he became a little more persistent. He'd ask you to eat lunch with him, and before you had a chance to decline, he'd already led you into the breakroom, making you sit down with one pinned stare.
He could tell you were a little anxious. So he always made the first move. He'd ask questions that required more than a nod for an answer, just to get you talking. And he would listen. Full attention, eyes glued to you the entire time you spoke.
No dismissive nods, no hums of acknowledgement in a way to just make you feel heard, no. He made sure you knew he was listening. When you mentioned your cat, he asked for its name. He asked to see pictures. When you made an offhanded complaint about the hospital coffee, he asked what your favorite coffee place was.
The next day, a coffee from said place was waiting for you.
are people talking about the labor conditions at Taylor Farms yet? like the fact they use enslaved prisoners in their facilities?
are we drawing the connection between worker safety and consumer safety & public health yet?
are people demanding to see the conditions in this place that keeps making us sick? why are the enslaved workers not having the time to use the bathroom or to rest when ill? very few people would shit in front of their coworkers given any choice at all.
