He probably felt guilty about wanting to replace Deckerd for a while.
im always saying this
Rambling about Beatbreak Episode 33
(And some minor thoughts I have on BB overall almost three quarters in)
Raito being under Kaito and Honoka's wing does heavily imply that the two are mainly 5 stars cause theyre just That Good rather than being morally bankrupt. I kinda doubt Rose is entirely the same but at least if she's taken out this arc that really only leaves Genjo and Wong to deal with. And given what the showrunners have told us, its very likely Wong will be betrayed by Genjo anyways. So Imo if the 49 episodes rumor is true then this does put things at ease for me a smidge as far as pacing goes. Cause I DO like the set-up of this arc being a blend of character/world building episodes and the growing mystery surrounding GIFT. I just think the placing of it is Unfortunate cause we've had to put off alot of other plot points as a consequence. Even Im getting a bit worried of how things will play out (we still barely know anything about Kyo or Asuka's past 😭).
I was hoping we would get more insight on how Raito acquired monodramon but Beatbreak is still being pretty vague about this. Tbf I think their goal was pretty different from what I had in mind. One thing I really liked is Raito pulling one over on Tomoro this week. There were alot of episodes in the previous arc of Raito being surpassed by Tomoro cause he couldnt understand what made him so strong. This time Raito has turned traits that originally lead to his downfall, into his greatest strength. Being able to stay cool, and use a more patient approach to ultimately save the day. Now being more in tune than ever with monodramon to better actualize HIS way of doing things. Finally standing on equal footing with Tomoro. Its a great bit of efficient characterization while also being attached to one of the more stand out fights in beatbreak.
Even though Tomoro's brashness leads to trouble, his growth as a cleaner gets to show off here. Having lost his sapotama MID DIGIVOLUTION, and still getting it back by smartly using gekkomon's absurd sense of smell. Its cute that Raito understands Tomoro's way of handling things and uses it to his advantage to create a winning scenario. Theres yet again an emphasis on neither side being nessicarily wrong but its what they both bring to table that gets the job done.
Do I think there should've been an episode where TT7 had to reconcile with what they had done? Yeah. Do I also feel that the last time they did this with Haruomi went a bit fast and wouldnt work in the format theyre commiting to? Probably not. So Im okay with an episode centered in Raito handling the remnants of Tactics. As a way of taking responsibility for what his previous actions has snowballed into.
The circumstances of the episode also spotlighted Raito being the hugest tsundere ever. Raito being so standoffish to Tomoro initially while monodramon quickly starts playing with Gekkomon tells you everything to know (lol). Not to mention teaming up with the guy that has yaoi tension with Tomoro's mentor (though unlike Kyo/Kaito, Raito's affection is not onesided 😉).
It was really sweet to see how much Hotaruko and Granit care about Raito and the fondness they have for eachother. Despite going their separate ways, theres an immutable bond between the three thats a similar yet different flavor of GD's dynamic.
Had alot to say about this episode (its Raito focused so y'know). However, I think it gave me an outlet to talk more naturally about how Im feeling on the GIFT arc and how Beatbreak's been handled structurally. There hasn't been a "bad" episode of BB in my eyes so Ive never felt as though the overall quality has dipped. So unless that changes, Im gonna simply take the show for what it is rather than anxiously wait for it to fumble.
The shitty brat that I hate (affectionate) is coming home tomorrow 🥹😭🥹
Still at a loss of what "Holy egg" in the GIFT tagline might mean
Is there something literal happening here with huge world building implications or is this a facet of GIFTs worship that we just aren't aware of yet...

Im ngl it would REALLY sting if the db super remake was reason beatbreak might not be getting more than 49 episodes. Especially when the the former is kinda redundant given the films its based off of exist and look fine???
I’m always vocally dismissive of swords in media because 99% of artists and authors make them boring as hell, Kagurabachi is in that 1% that nails it, and that is in no small part due to the artist clearly being a sword pervert. Look at how weighty, how heavy, how solid, how tool-like the hilts alone are drawn, thick weave, worn from use, sturdy, the speed these blades reach doesn’t come from the misconception that uchigatana are light — they are on the heavier side — it comes from the technique and strength of the wielders. Cuts are heavy, with impact, made with heavy tools.
just caught up on beatbreak, so I wanted to do a gbc style sprite for Chiropmon
small fumamon drawing i did in magma because i was hyped by their debut in digimon anime
(i am a fan of this digimon since their reveal for digimon vital bracelet in gammamon dim)
I have to wonder just how much agency Mahiru as the leader of GIFT. Understandly it can be hard to imagine her setting all of this up. However, with a digimon as powerful as Mephistomon it wouldnt surprise me if this was a more extreme version of Mimicmon. Where Mephistomon is essentially orchestrating this for her under any means nessecary. Potentially even warping the minds of GIFTs followers. Though, unlike in episode 8, Mahiru is fully on board with this. Since whatever happened to Mahiru before most likely caused her to be pessimistic on what human-digimon relationships can look like.
It'd be an interesting contrast to the Tactics arc where instead of being "what if Kyo was an abusive bastard" its "what if GD didn't exist for Tomoro to work through his trauma." Mephistomon doesnt even need to be particularly malicious in this version either. Making for an arc thats about Tomoro proving to Mahiru that humans and digimon CAN be on equal standing with eachother (which was what gekkomon's perfect digivolution was centered in emotionally).
If we ARE doing a thing where Mahiru is being secretly groomed or smth, I think itd be interesting if it was someone from world union pulling the strings. Potentially someone like Genjo, who currently is in control of WU laboratories either doing this cause A) a means to force a false flag scenario or B) using GIFT as an experiment to test a way to mass hypnotize a large group of people (on the premise that this IS what Mephistomon is doing here).
Like it could just be some guy which is a slightly a more "realistic" out. However, I feel thats a much less interesting direction and also just not how Beatbreak usually operates? Keep in mind Klay was also introduced in the first episode of the Tactics arc. With Miharu following suit in the GIFT arc. So itd be weird if they broke that trend by introducing a new character that solely exists to uncomplicate the arc.
