I’m very annoyed at both raid series being collabs rather than having at least one side be original, but I think what pisses me off Worse is he people being intentionally obtuse on why I’m bothered about it. Like yes, as matter of fact there is a difference between the WEAPONs (Garlean mechas homaging FF7 superbosses used as a vehicle to tell a story about the end consequences of Gaius’ personal philosophy) and a raid where characters are getting basically isekai’d to XIV.

In the end, even the relatively tame crossovers end up quarantined so I don’t share the fear of some that this will lead to some kind of erosion of XIV’s identity story wise, I just think it’s a shame when you consider what we could get instead.

The Return to Ivalice collab gave us the Dalmascan continent, the first tease of the Viera race, etc., but it feels like the more overtly they go “Hey! Look, it’s Popular Character from Other Game!” the less likely it is that XIV will revisit or reuse what they made to expand the world later. Cloud, Sephy, Prishe, 2B and 9S— they can’t stay here in Hydaelyn, and so storytelling options become naturally limited.

certainly an interesting setup... i suppose next patch will be actually starting the process of getting to the fourth, since the ethos seems to need an emotional connection of some sort to trigger? at least so far. basically a reverse azem stone, anyway. makes sense

my guess is that most of the expansion will deal with actually stopping the rejoining, and then the rest with starting to try to solve the solstice issue. i am hoping they don't solve it in one expansion, at least

they can't do the first's route again, since we are not actually capable to go around absorbing ice aether at will like last time. much to wonder

my money’s on bridging worlds with overflows of one aether to overflows of their astral or umbral inverse. i doubt it’s a coincidence we got introduced to the ninth and its overwhelming amount of levin right before we head on over to the fourth overrun with ice— on the in-universe element chart, those are elements on opposite spokes of the wheel.

to my knowledge there are six extant shards that haven’t been absorbed into the source— the 1st, 4th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 13th. Of these, 1 and 13 can be paired off as Light/Dark, and 4 and 9 can be paired off as Levin/Ice.

Which would leave 8 and 11, which we have no idea as to the current state of, but considering that there’s probably more than 2 Winterers, it can’t be great.

i enjoy playing almost all the classes in diablo 4 but rogue has a special place in my heart for much the same reason that playing a human appeals to folks playing high fantasy games

like yeah, it's one thing to summon up a horde of undead and face off against the armies of hell, it's a whole other thing to do all that with a crossbow and some funny alchemy mixes
