TADC has come to an end (there was no theatrical release in my country, so I successfully avoided spoilers until the 19th). And I'd like to comment a little on the finale and the show in general.
TADC hooked me from the start with its circus theme and "kids' show" aesthetic; I've always been drawn to that kind of thing. And with each episode, I became more and more invested in the show, especially after the fourth episode about Gangle. I know nothing epic happens in that episode, but I love this episode specifically for its greater focus on psychology and the inner world of the characters. The theme of emotions and feelings also appeals to me (the influence of "Steven Universe" on me since childhood).
As for the finale? It left me feeling slightly disappointed and confused. Looking back on the show now, I can say that what I missed most was more character development. I understand that the runtime and episodes are limited, and despite that, the team at Glitch's and Gooseworx's did a wonderful job.
But there's a clear favoritism among the characters. Yes, the problem is Jax. He was the only character I felt nothing but negatively about. I'm not one of those girls who likes that kind of bad boy (I'm most upset by the fans' misogynistic attitude toward my beloved Ragata, but maybe I'll talk about that another time). Overall, I was a bit disappointed that half the last episode was devoted to the purple bunny (and again, my pain for Ragata—we never got to see her room on the show).
But despite all my dislike for Jax, I, oddly enough, warmed up to him. Especially after I find out that he's a T-person. I realized that if he were a girl, I would empathize with her more and love her as much as the rest of the cast. And in Gooseworx's art, the purple bunny looks cute as a female.
Also, I was disappointed that the characters aren't connected to the real world and are simply copies of their originals. This somewhat devalues their experience. But I only thought that after watching the episode for the first time. Now I understand that this plot twist was logical (they've been trapped there for several years; their real-world bodies couldn't sit in VR glasses without food, water, they'd just died).
And most importantly, I understand why the author focused more on Jax. After all, it's her character, the one she invested more in than the others. And I'm glad that Gooseworx, despite the difficulties, was able to release such a wonderful show with all the creative freedom.
