ABOUT (tw: sexism, abuse, and death)
Born in Tonopah Valley, to Jonathan and Jackie Decker. Although, with how quickly Jackie Decker fled their household after Janelle's birth, she only considers the woman to be an egg donor of sorts. She was left with her brothers, Joseph, almost two decades older, James, and her father.
Joseph was...Okay, but both James and her father were sexist assholes who made sure that Nellie could never win. If she acted submissively, she was told to grow a set of balls. If she stood up for herself, she was told women should be seen and not heard. It wasn't long before Nellie decided to say 'fuck 'em' all together and do what she wanted, seeing as she couldn't make them happy regardless, she might as well make herself happy.
Her father died before she had even really hit her teens, leaving her in the care of her eldest brother and his kids. She loved her niece and nephews, but had to get out from under her family's dysfunctional thumb. So a few months shy of graduation, she got the fuck outta dodge.
Once James left Tonopah for his highfalutin job Nellie would swing home more often to visit Joseph and the kids, but she mostly lived up to her title of black sheep, letting the wind blow her wherever it wanted.
Eventually she ended up in Eureka, California, where she fell in love with a man wearing a Hellraisers kutte, and she never looked back. That is, until a chase on a shitty old logging road took him from her. She almost packed up and headed back to TV then, but found comfort in the family she had found in the Eureka chapter.
But then her blood family came calling. Joseph said he needed her, so she returned. It was only upon doing so did he tell her the reason: he was dying. A cancer that doctors said it wasn't worth trying to operate on. And with her knowledge of the MC, he left it to her to decide whether they should continue on in their deal with the devil or leave. Nellie knew she was in too deep, and called Sawyer, asking her to return home as well.
HEADCANNONS
Nellie is not a woo-woo type of girl, she believes in what you can do for yourself. But sometimes, Nellie wonders if running into a member of the very same MC that was started in her home town was fate. The same fate that would lead other members of her family to become involved in the same club years later. At first, she thought it was a great way to piss on her father's grave and give her brother agita. But now she knows it was a way for life to show her the real meaning of family (gag).
Over the years, Nellie has picked up a number of scars, the most prevalent being: one on her cheekbone from the kickback on a gun when Taylor was teaching her to shoot, one under her eye from a bar fight that ended up with a beer bottle to the face, and some wicked road rash on her back from a death wobble on the back of a prospect's bike.
If it wasn't for the legacy her nephew and niece are leaving, she would've taken Taylor's last name. But she's finally starting to wear Decker proudly (strange, what happens when all the abusers in your family bite the dust).
She may not have always worn Decker with pride, but Black Sheep, she did. First it was as a woman in a male dominated family. Then it was the type of woman she was. Later it was her refusal to bend to her brother and father's will and live the life she wanted. It was whispered at every school reunion in the crowds she used to run with, all with their shiny house in the Glenn Estates. She heard Andrea call her that more than once to her niece and nephew and her prissy friends at the country club. But she didn't mind, she thought black suited her quite well.
