Chara Loved To Draw

Everyone should be familiar with this picture by now, if you’re as deep in Undertale hell and Chara hell as I am.

This is, demonstratively, something that Chara has made. And if we look at the picture itself, it becomes clear it bears their signature, in not just the text but the sprite. It is CLEARLY a picture of a golden flower, and not just because it tells us. We can see five petals, which are present on all flowers we see in the overworld. It’s a pretty good depiction.

And we’ve seen Chara’s art before, haven’t we? 

Right above the box of shoes, there it is. Five petals. Same exact shape. Somehow, Chara’s drawing got here. Did they make it earlier on? Did Asriel pin his best friends’ drawing to his wall? Did they live here a while? It’s hard to say. But Chara is the only character who has established that they like to draw in Undertale. We don’t see the art of anybody else, barring maybe the nice cream man with his illustrations of hugs.

In fact, it has been my theory for a long time that the contents of this drawer are telling. Flower seeds and crayons. I think that Toriel took Chara’s favorite things and buried them with them. Including, of course, the golden flowers … and their art supplies. Regardless, the seeds of the flowers and the crayons in one space links them together; Chara’s favorite thing with an activity they liked to do.

Why am I harping on this link so hard …? Well. If drawings are Chara’s trait, and no one else has been shown to express them, then … 

… Makes this very interesting, doesn’t it?
