i prefer reading manga over watching anime, so these are the ones that i’m following. most of these titles are obscure, so i gotta add some obligatory comments to make you guys want to read them.

boku no hero academia (fatgum!! fatgum!!)

one piece and magi, but to a lesser extent nowadays

to you, the immortal (highly highly highly recommend if you’re not afraid of getting your heart ripped into shreds)

the shiori experience, which is about a woman possessed by the spirit of jimi hendrix and i s2g words are not enough to explain this manga

wotaku ni koi wa muzukashii, if you’re into grown-up nerds being cute and nerdy together

i recently finished gunjou gakusha, a lovely anthology with art that’ll make you cry. i also adore irie aki’s ran and the gray world, which the header on my mobile theme is from (tw: it’s kinda fucked up)

haru no noroi, which is peak terrible romantic tragedy (tw: mental health stuff)

koi wa amaagari no you ni, which is kinda about growing up and kinda about being an ex-track star and kinda about love? but not really (tw: age gap)

musume no iede, stories of various troubled young women whose lives intersect in same way or another, with a deceptively cute art style

i’m always looking forward to shimanami tasogare, which hasn’t updated in awhile. beautifully-drawn lgbt+ manga are pretty rare.

To be around thugs or not? Not really an issue for her considering her abilities, but she didn’t want to draw attention. “Price is not an issue with me. Neither are pirates or thugs. Is there something in the middle that you may know of?”

Shawn massaged his chin. Honestly, the only ones he personally saw that were convenient was the inn that his crew was staying. Then again, she did say she didn’t mind pirates. Interesting.

“Because a straw hat smells like straw...and hair.....” In all honestly, Riley just knew because he came across them a while back and just saw the similarity of smells, but that didn’t stop him for teasing just a tinge.

The Unexpected Fists

He’d only wanted to visit a bar for some R and R. And a strong drink, too. He hadn’t exactly walked in looking for trouble, but alas, trouble always found him, even during the most inconvenient times.

It was getting worse lately, too, it seemed.

He only wanted a seat, but an asshole had spilled something on him. Totally ‘on accident.’ The jackass didn’t look the least bit apologetic as Mig glared him down and whacked him in the face with his trusty crowbar.

And that was how it all started.

Some other guy–maybe a friend of the perpetrator–leaped from his seat and came at Mig from behind, attempting to grab him and trap him in a headlock. He wrestled with the man for a few moments until he managed to loosen the other’s grip, spin around, and deal a blow down below.

Chaos, chaos, and more chaos. Soon, practically all the patrons near and at the front counter were either brawling or taking bets on who would win.

And at some point, Mig found himself backing up closer to someone: a human woman who was smaller than he was. He briefly caught a glimpse of her jabbing needles into some asshole’s eyes. His eyebrows rose and he nodded slowly.

“Niiiiiice.”

If she would glance at him, he’d flash her a thumbs-up before turning to sock the next man running to him.

Shannon turned around to see the fishman from earlier. The one that caused the whole damn mess.

‘Oh great’

She saw a man in front of her swing a sword at her. It was easy to dodge but the man behind her wasn’t aware of it. As Shannon dropped below the blade, she kicked the back of the fishman’s knee, making him drop as well. She kicked the swordman’s shins and smashed the face with her steel-tip boots.

Shannon jumped up and noticed that only she and the man behind her were in the middle while being circled by the rest of the bar. They were stuck and surrounded.

First her captain and now this guy. Why was it always the fishmen that got her into stupid shit like this?

   Oh, she now smelled him too.. odd.. was it this guy’s doing? She didn’t know, but she didn’t ask.

    “Yeah, I do believe so. That’s my Tyki!” she giggled. “And what do you mean what am I? I’m human,” she replied. And she was being honest, she was human, just more like superhuman.

Riley shrugged. It didn’t really matter to him that there was something odd about her or the person she was looking for. He just kinda wanted an excuse to just roam. New place, new animals.

“Ok. I think he’s over there. Maybe went by here about an hour ago? He’s still moving too. Fast” Riley pointed to his right. He made grabby motions towards her.

“What a lift?”

     “Never really considered myself a monster.. But I can see why some people would call me that.. As for Allen, decapitation will do.. But obviously he’s not going to just let you.. He’s a tough kid..” Tyki’s trademark was removing organs without any signs on the body that it was removed. That usually showed people when the male did away with someone.

   He placed a finger on his lips and tapped it, letting out a sigh. “We do have someone who can do that.. But I don’t think she’d ever kill Allen. She likes him.” Not enough to put her family below him, but enough to where she didn’t want to kill him.

    “Whichever seems more like fun to you guys~.”

Gwen shrugged. “Don’t worry about it. We’ve been called worse. And done worse.” The memory of the people she let die from her time as a mortician went through her head but like always, she let them go by.

“We’ll just find a way to break him. Humans are simple, we are just flesh with emotions so play with those emotions and you got yourself a puppet.” Gwen grinned. It was basic stuff and she had to admit that they were too good at manipulating people.

“Um, so are you sure you want him dead if your friend likes him...alive? Wouldn’t she be upset that he’s lost his head?” Who would like the person they want to kill? But then again, there was Zeke and Tula’s own past so maybe it wasn’t so uncommon.

:Or is she into that kind of thing? No judgement. Oliver, our boss, keep the skull of his dead father.”

   She was older than she appears. Much older. “He probably smells like roses and cigarettes.. But what do you mean sniff him out? Are you part dog?” she questioned with an arched brow. 

    She held an umbrella behind her back that had a pumpkin top.

“Roses and cigarettes.....” Riley sniffed the air and caught the faintest of whiffs.

Was this it? It also held the same aroma from the little girl. Something that didn’t exactly...human. Using his powers, he copied the scent and released it from his own body.

“Is this it??” Riley asked as he eyed the girl.

“So what are you? You smell weird,” he said bluntly.

     “Good thing I’m not a police then… Even though I am sure the police would love a guy like me on their team.” Nah, too much work to be a police.. In his white life he liked the easy life, just a miner and a homeless man. As long as he had his friends, he was happy in that life.

    “Oh yes, they’re exorcists.. And they’re trying to kill us or exorcise us.. And we don’t want that.” By ‘we’ he meant his Noah family. “If you got rid of Allen Walker, that would be great.. but if you could bring us back a Lenalee, alive, that would be great too.. That Allen is quite the fighter. Even when I left a whole in his heart he managed to survive.”

Gwen put her hands on her hips, her chain scythe flashing on her belt. She had heard of gossip about an exorcist group and if she remembered correctly, Oliver had made some deals with them but they never seemed to meet eye to eye so the deals were never finalized. Gwen made a not to herself to research more about them.

“Wow, must be some monster of a guy. But do you think he’ll survive decapitation? What can a body do without its precious head? Plus, its more of our specialty,” Gwen chuckled. Well, it was more Oliver’s thing, but due to the fact that he was in charge of killing people, it didn’t matter. Personally, she was more interested in dissecting whatever made this Allen tick. Maybe she could ask for the body after the job.

“Though, have you and your ‘we’ thought of a mental attack? If someone so powerful can survive without a heart, maybe you just have to destroy him from within. Crush him so bad he rather die than live,” Gwen smirked.

“Or is that why you’ll like us to kidnap a Lenalee”

    “That’s quite the offer. You’re lucky I’m not a police officer or something,” he joked and hummed out a laughter. “Well.. There IS someone that we need to get rid of… He goes by the name of Allen Walker.. I want to get rid of him. But at this time we just want him gone no matter who kills him. Or perhaps have one of his companions in our hands.. Such as a Lenalee.”

“Hah, like the police can stop us. We know too much about their dirty shit to dare mess with us. Plus, we’ll just murder them” Gwen pushed a strand of her hair from her face.

“Allen Walker and a Lenalee? Well, those names sound somewhat familiar. Hmm, may I ask why they need to be eradicated? I’ts crucial we know the business of our customers.”
