In Vein of Azerite
(Takes place approximately 2 months ago, three weeks prior to his promotion in the Agents of Suramar) TW: Violence
Prelude | Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV (coming soon!)
(Bonus: Veros’ proposal to the Agents to ley-walk the Dead Scar)
The Nightborne’s fingers trailed lightly against his bare abdomen, tracing the still fresh scar of the sword that had impaled him weeks ago. In the mirror, Veros stares at himself, frowning at how the gash ruined his skin. His right bicep was marred as well from the messy attempt to cauterize such a deep wound, scarring in the shape of his handprint. He was lucky to have been brought to healers in time to revert some of the gruesome damage from the excursion.
He huffs, throwing on a shirt and retrieving a reinforced chestpiece. Despite it all, he ultimately got what he wanted from the mission: Azerite. Studying it and its properties alongside the Agents of Suramar was soon to begin.
Now he just needed more.

The Agents of Suramar are hosting a Gala!
https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20761957665
Hello good people of Wyrmrest! On Friday, March 16th Agents of Suramar will be hosting a formal gala for any and all RPers interested in attending. The event begins at 6:30pm server time. Location TBD, but summons will be available for any wishing to attend. Please feel free to contact me with questions either here, or send in-game mail to Thanilleth OOC. Hope to see you all there!
The Agents of Suramar are a group of great folks I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with and fleshing out Veros more within their plotlines. I’ll be bringing my priest to this event, if anyone out on WrA Horde-side is interested in attending, it’s coming up soon!
The Gala is tonight!
Netherlight Temple is a Naaru temple that held the Void God Saraka the Lighteater for research into the Void. After the priests from Azeroth were able to bring Saraka back to her original Naaru state, the temple became the order hall for priests of the Conclave. Netherlight Temple is situated deep within the Twisting Nether. The Legion had been searching for it for ages.
crownofstormwind:
All valid points and concerns, all things Anduin considers before he sets out to contact Neo’la. The risk, he decides, is worth what they might gain. What Azeroth might gain. Vulnerable, weakened, the blade of a dark titan still plunged to unknowable depths. Although Anduin stands as a voice for the Alliance, he still holds immeasurable respect for all the Horde has accomplished and the honor that beats in the chests of many of their citizens. He knows within the ranks are minds like his own, believers in peace and protection, a world where war is not an ever-looming threat. There may come a time in which conflict is unavoidable in the days to come, but it will not be because they did not consider alternatives.
“A precious piece but still only that.”
Who is presently on the Council if anyone? Will the idea come to fruition at all? What is their goal? Without details and identities to trail after, the knowledge of a council is as good as knowing that Ironforge has one of its own in the wake of Magni’s transformation and departure. A curious addition, fuel for speculation, but a mystery to anyone outside. Anduin is deliberate in how much he conveys. Although he believes this to be a time for boldness, it won’t do to be foolhardy and naive.
“You might wonder what would stop you from accepting in order to discover more. To that I would caution we aren’t without our share of fail-safes.” Such as a minister who specializes in the elusive and the hidden. “I understand your doubts and your skepticism. You are wise to harbor both. In your position, I might feel much the same. But you walk these streets as an honored guest and trade freely. You’re no enemy. You believe in something that returns you to Stormwind no matter where your home is. Imagine a community where that possibility could be open to anyone willing. To make that a reality, we must set the foundation for it.”
She nods to his response, reaching out to run a hand over the silk cloth hung on the walls. "You are right about that. This factional warfare has never interested me, and it has always been a blessing to return to this city time and time again. And I have always wanted to take my daughters to see this place without quarrel."
She ponders for a moment. While her own interests at times clashed with her husband, who still harbored resentment to the Alliance, she could not deny that there was true hope in the cause. The King may be young, but she was not deaf to the wisdom he held, and with such a peaceful mind in power, she had no doubt that his plans could become reality.
"This offer may put me at odds with the desires of my family, King Wrynn," Neo'la says, folding her hands in front of her. "But... Perhaps the ends will justify the means. I am not sure how much more information you are willing to give on this matter, but if it is supplies you need for now, I will gladly give it.”
She offers a deep bow. "I am honored you came to speak with me about this, your Majesty. Please know you do have my full attention with this.... council idea, and if you have more planned with it, I’m all ears.”
Does the corruption of different Old Gods manifest in different ways? If so, how? How might Yogg-Saron drive you mad in comparison to say C'Thun? Do shadow priests feel any sort of 'affinity' for different Old Gods' forms of corruption? Are they stronger or weaker against certain Void creatures (not just due to the creature's power level), or is it a flat-plane sort of deal?
The Old Gods have different ways of corrupting mortals, the difference between these two is that while both of them seed doubt and fear into your mind, C’Thun drives one towards self-destruction, but Yogg-Saron drives you to destroy others.
C’Thun preaches that the reality around you is essentially false, that those you love do not really care, and that your strengths are futile. You’re already dead, they will abandon you, hope is an illusion, the end is inevitable. This manifests as a crippling anxiety to those who are prolonged to it far too long, and the hopelessness and nihilism builds up, and the only way to rid yourself of such torment is to tear yourself apart until there is no more to feel of it.
Yogg-Saron says essentially the same things, but the way he words them are different. They’re more vindictive. Things are hopeless – and you need to do something about it. “Let hatred and rage guide your blows!” He transforms your doubts and weaknesses and madness into fury, and in the peak of insanity by his word, everything, everyone, even those closest and most loved and cherished by you, are your enemy. He refers to himself as the God of Death, and clearly, his solution is to kill and destroy, and he drives you to become a tool in such a force. You lose yourself to the madness of bloodlust and rage with this one, and cause a chain of chaotic reactions among those around you.
Yogg-Saron is similar to Y’Shaarj in this sense, in which your outburst is that of destruction, but Yogg-Saron is far more unhinged and chaotic, while Y’Shaarj is more controlled and tempered, which is probably why he was the most powerful of the four. N’Zoth is the weakest, and he’s very straight forward: “y’all are weak” basically. More taunting, not as corrupting IMHO.
That said, it’s different for every priest on how they handle the whispers. With a weak will, it’s easy to cave into the feelings of hopelessness, and spiral down on a path of destruction, but some, more excelled priests, can instead gain strength from them.
To weaponize C’Thun’s words, you take this “everything is meaningless” mentality, warp it within your power and will, and essentially bounce back with “but only meaningless for my enemies”. Those Shadows are more suffocating in power, and the pain inflicted by it is harder to recover from, as it leaks the words of hell into the victim’s minds.
Yogg-Saron’s words, though, are the easiest, and most “fun” to twist and harness. Priests will allow themselves, just a little bit, to taste the madness, to feel the hunger for blood and chaos in an effort to further their own power and annihilate their enemies. The Shadows manifest as searing, burning energy, pain and discord wrought upon the victims, with nightmares enhanced, and a maddening laughter in the corners of your mind, echoing faintly.
Of course, weaker willed priests have no right to wield such power, and will fall ill to these whispers. I personally would argue in this case that shadowpriests may be stronger than the void elves, on the account that they are strengthened by ignoring the whispers and not caving in, whereas the void elves simply do not hear the whispers at all. In exchange, they’re a window to the source of dark energy itself, whereas shadowpriests tap only at the front gates of its power, cautious in its use.
To non-shadow users, fighting creatures of the Void is difficult, as you’re not used to hearing such whispers, not used to being near such horrible energies, and they often leave victims shaken up, regardless if they destroyed the fiends. Shadowpriests have the advantage in that they’re familiar with the power and feel, and can easily overcome it without too much consequence. Like fighting fire with fire, except, like, a firebender fighting a building on fire. You can snuff it out because you know the fire well and can bend it, while others are more prone to being burned.
So long as a priest remains strong-willed, and only either sticks to using purely Shadow magic, or only dabbles in the Void in small doses, they will remain in power.

❝ mm, how right you are. there is so much still we do not know when it comes to others. ❞ a bit of dry humor and tone. in a way it openly admits just how little people knew of him. all the same, it says absolutely nothing. how like his tone to vary from eliciting so little to so much whenever he bid it to .
shoulders press back into the solid structure of the wall behind him, ears pricking forward as he listens beyond the jingle of their jewelry. his arms cross and he muses thoughtfully in the short silence before the sin’dorei continues. intent eyes soften and shut as her praise hits him. pride was a sin and he was full of it. had there been anything that remotely curbed his generally harsh nature, it was a meaningful stroke of the ego .
❝ you should be more attentive next time, ❞ caelius states simply. it is flat and perhaps uncaring, but strangely not without sincerity. his normal cover of emotion slips, if only in light of the praise still ringing in his ears, ❝ and those children; the scoundrels ── they should know better than to wander off by themselves like that . ❞
Neo’la simply chuckles, waving a hand at the nightborne. “A folly mistake of mine. I will be sure that clumsiness won’t trouble you again.”
She adjusts her gloves idly, deciding against pulling out a map and wandering through the city again. Suramar and the nightborne that lived here were full of wonders, and she aimed to learn and gain as much as she can from them.
“Though, pray forgive if I may trouble you with something else one last time, I am searching for a place of trade, or perhaps a hub of leyweavers. Your people have the utmost excellent production, I yearn to learn more of it,” She says, pressing a hand to her bosom. “I am Lady Neo’la Sunblade, tailor and priestess, a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

“It’s not worth the risk. For all of its mysteries, the Light is straightforward. It does not seek to consume you. You shouldn’t go down a path that you won’t be able to turn back from. I’ve seen what the Void does to beings on Mac’Aree.”
“And I’ve seen what the Light tried to do with Stormrage. The Light is an excellent and warm power, I will not deny it, but to say it does not consume is to ignore whatever it was X’era intended. All paths must be pondered and explored, how else can we learn more?”

Neo’la Sunblade was the candidate for this one, had fun doodling her! I might be a day behind all these prompts, but nonetheless, I’m extremely determined to do this challenge all the way through.

azshara: is your muse an opportunist, or do they stick to their morals?
-- world of warcraft zone asks: kalimdor edition --
Morals are quite trifling to Neo’la. For the most part, she is more than willing to step over anyone it takes if it means she can gain an advantage of some kind. She may not be so inclined to put family or children in harm’s way though. But if opportunity presents itself to put Neo’la at a higher position of power, then her loyalties are easily malleable, and with dark magic on her side, her methods of getting what she needs can turn gruesome rather quick.
"There are those who have chosen the full path of the Void. Would you think less of me if I admit I've considered the same path as well?"

“It’s a path that leads most to insanity. Are you sure you will be able to walk it without losing yourself in the process, cousin?”
anierous-sunblade:
“Power is not worth it. You will keep wanting more and more of it. You will lose yourself and turn on those you wanted to protect.”
“And yet there is evidence that the Void may actually be more tamable than first thought. I still fear the full embrace of the Void, and only meddle in its Shadows, but these new teachings and methods could revolutionize how shadowpriests practice their art.
If you had the opportunity to learn more of the Light’s power, you would take it, would you not?”
stcrwrought:
very near was he to being on his way only to be stopped by the sound of someone approaching him. a jovial chuckle and the sound of surprise pricks his attention and caelius finds himself trapped in conversation with the woman he “unintentionally” protected. ears slick down at the thought, jewelry jingling as they pin down. not quite off to the side enough, it seemed. his posture straightens as grimace peels back into disappointed scoff .
❝ shameful, isn’t it? fighting like territorial animals. ❞ his tone is haughty, but understandably so. the danger of people that still plagued his city grew increasingly intolerable. ❝ i’d sooner trust mana sabers . ❞
not an entirely exaggerated lie. he had met many a beast with far more refinement than that which he witnessed daily. beautiful though suramar was, it was riddled with hostility. mana sabers, at the very least, were protective of their young. ❝ it was satisfying knocking a little sense into them . ❞
“I don’t blame you. Felines are easy to understand once you get to know them. People? Oh, there’s speech, then there’s desire, and opinions -- so much to balance and figure out.” She chuckles darkly, gesturing towards where the scuffle had happened. “You wind up with chaos that way.”
She hefted the bag of supplies she toted over her shoulder. She’d seen enough quarrels in the Horde cities to know just how ugly it would get, and given the rumors of allegiances, she wonders how the Shal’dorei would fare butting heads with the citizens of the Horde. The thought humors her.
“Luckily, though, there are those levelheaded enough in such chaos that they prevent it from spiraling too far,” Neo’la says, offering a smirk. “Society always needs people like that. I hope you know I do appreciate the help back there. Hardly had my eyes up to see where I was headed towards, Light, what a disaster it could have been!”

“That’s just it, Anie. I don’t know. On one hand, it would grant me the power I need to protect and fight. On the other, I would never be the same. But I’ve had a taste of that power before... I have to wonder if perhaps it’s worth it.”
