FWIW: the origin of the word “terf” is that it was coined to specifically describe people who attended Michfest. considering you’re apparently illiterate and incapable of reading the post in front of you, i’m gonna point out a couple things.

1: the apparently “pro trans” comic (where the punchline is that cis lesbians actually get stopped more in bathrooms than trans women, because trans women are gender conformists, something Bechdel repeats in other Dykes To Watch Out For comics) is from much, much more longer than ten years ago. i find it utterly baffling to say “this comic that is actually from longer ago than the transphobic stuff is proof that she isn’t transphobic any more”

2. she didn’t just “go to a music festival that hasn’t been around for over a decade”. she went to a music festival that categorically & specifically open li segregated trans women, whilst people she personally knew begged her not to go. Like, sorry, you can’t casually skip over that part: Alison Bechdel went to the event that terfism is literally coined after, and she went for literally years. Whilst she was attending, they started handing out pamphlets telling you to be on the look out for trannies who snuck in. She kept going until the event was closed specifically due to lack of support because of the transphobia. A couple years ago she released a book where she is still whinging and whining about how unfair it is that this bastion of Female Safety has been cancelled.

other people have pointed out that ten years ago isn’t even very long. i came out as trans twelve years ago. am i supposed to just get over the fact that in literal living breathing memory, Bechdel was completely fine with segregating me out from events for being “male socialised”. not even just within my lifetime, within my time out the closet. i literally remember it being a big deal when there was no Michfest 2016. Alison Bechdel only stopped going to terfcon the year before Trump was first elected — and she only stopped going because the event was permanently cancelled due to the transphobia. it’s crazy how many people are ready to be like “but that was so long ago!” i don’t care i fucking lived through it and i’m not going to capitulate to people telling me to get over it because i’m not a spineless liberal with zero self-preservation
