It really hurts when a great character is introduced, you're attached to it, and then you can see that the writers don't care anymore, have little respect for the traits and complexities they built before, and the progression becomes something you didn't fall in love with in the beginning. The character is ... out of character. The lore that was set up before is not taken seriously. It's even more hurtful and mind-fucking when the fandom literally eats up anything they're given... they will just run with anything.
This has happened to me so many times, it never fails to make me go into depression-mode because of how much I devote myself to characters for escapism and it sucks that fanfiction won't solve my rage at the disrespect of a well introduced character who declines in accuracy, consistency and story arc etc.
All of my favourite characters of all time are botched. It's a weird, depressing pattern. Because then I have to move on and I feel empty again.
