This post details the background lore about the trio. In short, they were trying to do prophecy-related ghost hunting, then fell into the world of the Gold & Silver 1997 Spaceworld Demo.

Their story involves themes of childhood abuse, religious indoctrination, transphobia, and untreated PTSD. I will tag where relevant but please keep that in mind.

Background: A Tale Long Told

These are OCs from a story I never finished. The story involves a prophecy - a team consisting of a Mage, a Warrior, and a Guide must venture into a haunted mansion every 50 years to calm the spirits inside.

The Mage is always a woman, always has a flower-shaped relic as a necklace, and is always from the same family - Saffron and Lucy's family. He was being trained to take the role, but he ran away with the relic & transitioned - leaving the "backup", his younger sister Lucy, to take his place.

Saffron disguises himself as the Guide in order to meet with the Warrior (Jason), who is chosen at random, before his family can. Saffron believes that he is the Mage, and so must take his rightful place before his parents traumatise Lucy. Unfortunately, his plan fails, and Lucy is sent into the mansion with them. 

The three fall into the Pókemon universe before their mission is completed. But they are separated in the process, and must find each other again. A mysterious ghost-like shadow bestows upon them two creatures each, which the stranger calls "Pókemon". 

But the universe they are in is a little odd - it seems… incomplete, perhaps? 

(it's based on the Gold & Silver spaceworld 1997 demo version okay bye)

Fun Facts

-These characters were first envisioned way back in 2016

-The intended ending for the original story was that Jason & Saffron would fall in love, escape the mansion, then run off into the sunset to raise Lucy. Once Lucy grew up, there would be a sequel story where Lucy would have to grapple with childhood trauma, Dissociative Identity Disorder, their family legacy, and hunt some more ghosts probably.

-Saffron was created before I learned about trans people so was originally a cis man who was, in fact, the Mage for… no given reason. When I revisited him a few years later I went 'hey. wait. I know how to patch this plot hole". He also used to have a stupid straw hat like Luffy.

-Jason's character design has only had very minor changes. This is because he is what I wanted to look like. This is also why the trio is all white - Jason is the one it'd make sense to race swap, but he's me so it'd be weird.

-Lulu originally was friends with Jason before the story, and was going to sneak into the mansion via Jason's backpack. She was supposed to be 6 years old, yet would cook for the group (because she was the only girl, I guess) and took on a caretaker role??? This made no sense, so when Saffron got his overhaul, Lulu did too. 

-Saffron's dead name has a really fun story around it that I'm hoping I'll get to reveal...

-The character referred to as 'the ghost', 'the shadow', or some combination of all of those is actually called The Helper. It is a really old Undertale OC who I'm repurposing to take over the role of the Guide. The Helper will basically be acting as an author insert to prod the plot forward.

-The original Guide was a ghost called T. Or maybe he was pretending to be T and was actually A. He was a very surface-level character who barely had a design.

-I made a shitty clay sculpture of Jason in my intermediate school art class. He lives on my desk in my parent's house. I'll dig up a photo at some point

okay I gotta log off and actually go study </3 first posts for the new trio have been written out, but I still need to do their intro posts and like, a couple more posts for the first arc. I intended to write intro posts but it ✨morphed✨ into story posts instead. also need to sort out some posts for the return of the old blogs

tentative timeline is that everyone should be back online by Sunday (my timezone. Aotearoa New Zealand. that's Saturday for most of you)

I'm going to do a tiny bit of an event for it - magic anons will be on for the existing blogs temporarily. will try to draw something for each blog if I have the time. which I don't but I can pretend.

I'm including their sprites again cause I love them. my dolls.

intro posts drafted! I think I'll also do temporary pinned posts, as the ones I have drafted won't be posted til Jason reaches a Required Story Milestone. That shouldn't take long (1-2 days in canon), but I don't want them to be without a pinned post during that time "^^

it's fun figuring out how each character writes. jason writes like this. proper grammar and spelling but no capitalization, because he can't be bothered. Saffron writes with direct and formal language due to his upbringing. He writes every post like an email, since that has been his only exposure to digital communications. Sincerely, Saffron.

Lucy's a weird character in that she was originally envisioned as like, 6 years old, but had the capabilities of an adult (she originally cooked for the trio). then I got older, looked at her character, and went 'she cannot be 6 that's stupid'. 9 is the right age for what she should be doing in her original story (& her dynamic with Saffron), but some aspects are still holdovers from when she was supposed to be younger. anyway in short the more I think about it the more I need to rewrite that intro post

OKAY I went on a massive hyperfocus spree so my OC faller blogs will finally see the light of day as I revive everyone....

I know I won't be able to draw them (time constraints) so instead I did the reasonable thing and made sprite edits for them. obviously. Saffron's is a little off, he should look wayyyy sadder + have his flower hairclip but I'm not that good at spritework and every attempt at getting it more accurate looked silly. so here we are

teams, locations, everything's been planned out except the exact story. they have a REALLY fun setting but unfortunately that means I have to translate it to "real world" logic. sad.

there WAS another rotomblr blog with a related setting I was hoping was still active so we could play dolls together, but looks like they've been inactive since June. totally fair but sad

these guys have a very special place in my heart though so I am relieved to nearly be ready to release them into the wild <3

I'd also really like to have some pokemon photos ready to drop for Apapane and Cane but I do not have the money or time rn :') may try to do something for Nimbus & Marina updates but there are not enough hours in the day...

for a little context on where I've been, I got so depressed I had to redo a sem of uni and instead spent roughly 8 months in therapy while living in my parent's house. #girlboss or whatever. also got diagnosed with ADHD

would anyone be interested in a big pokemon irl hunger games (non-canon) roleplay? the new SarahZ video has inspired me. I'm thinking that I'd create little "hub threads" for people to RP the events of each day. all deaths would be determined via randomiser though. any chosen ones would have their legendaries as patrons. fun idea or lame?
