Hi Dan! I really like your gift and your video and I would like to know if you use a polarizing filter for make your video?
Thank you so much! Sorry for such a late response, took some time off. =P
Polarizing filters, not so much. My collection of ND filters on the other hand is comparable to a bibliophiles collection of books. =P
What's your on the go lens for traveling? Is there one which is really flexible and can be used for a lot of situations (actually on the search for one and don't know if I should buy a zoom lens or not... actually I'm more a fan of prime lenses but really need something wider angled so I'm thinking about my options)?
My go-to lens is a 24mm 1.4 It doesnāt actually ever come off one of my a7s bodies. However, 35mm lenses work great for travelling too, Juls swears by her 35mm, i swear by my 24mm. However, i do travel with a variety of prime lenses. So for me itās a standoff between those two.
Also, iām not a fan of zooms but a 24-70mm 2.8 is a pretty solid traveler if you donāt mind the weight. I think the f4 might be a bit lighter, smaller and cheaper as well but not a fan of the aperture personally.Ā
This of course is all in relation to shooting full frame format and not crop.
Hope that helps! =]
I hope you will make some actions for sony vegas pro.
They are coming! Universal LUTs will be available very soon in the new store:

Why don't you make a small movie?
Like a short film? I love watching indie films but I donāt have any intention of going down that path myself, at least not anytime soon. I am currently in the works of a doco series which i guess is different to my normal work in advertising + travel promo, so unless that counts? haha
Cheers!Ā
Hello! I'm in high school and I love making short films documenting life etc. Anyway I was wondering how you get the license to use the music in your videos so that you don't break copyright laws? I would love to use some of my favorite indie folk songs in the background of my films, but I don't want to risk being sued. Do you contact the artists directly, or do you simply download free use music? I can't seem to find any good free use music. I appreciate your help so much!
There are so many different ways to use music.Ā
Quick tips:
Licensing sites such as audiosocket + themusicbedGet in touch with local artistsSoundcloud (check the licenses)Ā YoutubeVimeo music storeRecord your own music if you can
Hope that helps, =]
love the new films! :) happy that you are posting again
=] thank you! iām making an effort to upload nearly daily, I did miss it while i wasnāt posting.Ā
what lenses do you use when you are travelling? i read that you don't like zoom lenses, how do you manage to travel with prime lens and have options?
I only take what I know Iāll need and that depends on where I am travelling to and whether I am travelling for work as well. I at the very least will have my 24mm 1.4 & 50mm 1.2 with me at all times. Sometimes, a 35mm, 135mm or 24mm tilt-shift comes along. The only lens that has never been on a roadtrip is my 85mm, i find itās a pointless focal length since I always have my 50mm with me, typically on a second body ready to roll. The 135mm f2 is a beaut since on a a7s for instance, i can crop into 200mm and still shot low light.Ā
Minimum 3 lenses + 2 bodies + other cameras + rigs, i donāt travel lightly haha.
And yes, still donāt like zooms on full frame cameras. I do own a couple of RX100ā²s, the zooms on them are a different story. But they are used as vlogging rigs typically.Ā
Hope that answers it! =]
Do you take any stabilizer with you on travels?
The short answer is no, but it depends on what kind of āstabilizerā we are talking about. Most of my travel footage is shot handheld, but i do use different straps and attachments that give me leverage orĀ āenhanceā steadiness without travelling with a steadicam, rails etc that i do use in client work. Technique is very important. I do however travel with a monopod, tripod and a joby.
Iāll be uploading some videos soon of my gear and typical set ups.Ā
Hope that helps!Ā
In the summer, Juls and I had the chance to explore Yosemite National Park along with a few friends. Though we only had a few days, we made the most of every minute going on adventurous hikes, walking alongside beautiful deer, driving through the windy roads, enjoying an amazing philly cheese steak and we were lucky enough to stay at a gorgeous house right in Yosemite.
We loved it so much that the moment we left we already had a yearning to come back even though we still had a 3 month adventure ahead of us across europe, and so we did in the winter of 2016.
This is summer.

Have your video a frame rate of 3:1? I ask you because I watched them (apart that they are so gorgeous, but you already knew it) and I saw that they have another frame ratio, different from 16:9, straighter. cheers <3 :)
thank you so much! by frame rate I assume you mean aspect ratio? anywhere from around 1.77:1 to 2.40:1 and on-wards, it changes all the time depending on the gig, client and camera/rig.Ā
